Egypt Court Outlaws The Muslim Brotherhood

JoshuaPundit: An Egyptian court has issued orders banning the Muslim Brotherhood as well as "any institution branching out of it or ... receiving financial support from it" and ordered the confiscation of all of its "assets, funds and buildings".

This is a huge blow to Egypt's Islamist fascists, because The Brotherhood depends on social welfare organizations that it funds to build up grassroots political support. Even during the time the Brotherhood was officially banned, the Mubarak regime allowed a number of these organizations to continue operating. My guess is that the interim government plans to get rid of the Brotherhood once and for all, to the extent that's possible.

Oddly enough, the verdict not as a diktat from the al-Sissi interim government but from a lawsuit raised by lawyers from the leftist party Tagammu party, accusing the Brotherhood of being a "terrorist" and "exploiting religion in political slogans."

Still to come is the trial of Morsi, al-Badie and other Brotherhood figures. One fact that has emerged recently is that among other things, deposed Brotherhood President Morsi is supposed to have put out a contract on General Al-Sissi prior to Morsi's ouster and arrest.

CAIRO – An Egyptian court on Monday ordered the Muslim Brotherhood to be banned and its assets confiscated in a dramatic escalation of a crackdown by the military-backed government against supporters of the ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.

The ruling opens the door for a wider crackdown on the vast network of the Brotherhood, which includes social organizations that have been key for building the group's grassroots support and helping its election victories. The verdict banned the group itself -- including the official association it registered under earlier this year -- as well as "any institution branching out of it or ... receiving financial support from it," according to the court ruling, made public on Egypt's state official news agency MENA.

The judge at the Cairo Court for Urgent Matters also ordered the "confiscation of all the group's money, assets, and buildings" and said that an independent committee should be formed by the Cabinet to manage the money until final court orders are issued. The verdict can be appealed.

The Brotherhood was outlawed for most of its 85 years in existence. But after the 2011 ouster of autocrat Hosni Mubarak, it was allowed to work openly, formed a political party and rose to power in a string of post-Mubarak elections. In March, it registered as a recognized non-governmental organization.

"This is totalitarian decision," leading group member Ibrahim Moneir said in an interview with Qatari-based Al-Jazeera Mubashir Misr TV. "You are losers and it (the Brotherhood) will remain with God's help, not by the orders by the judiciary of el-Sissi," he added, referring to military chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who led the overthrow of Morsi on July 3.

The court did not immediately make public the grounds for its ruling. The verdict came in a suit raised by lawyers from the leftist party Tagammu party, accusing the Brotherhood of being a "terrorist" and "exploiting religion in political slogans." Several other courts are looking into similar suits.

Perhaps it is time for us to start looking at the Muslim Brotherhood and its tentacles within the U.S. government.  As a country like Egypt outlaws this pseudo-religion group, we have a President whose Brother is linked to this dangerous organization  and our former secretary of state and a possible 2016 Democrat Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, has a personal aid, Huma Mahmood Abedin (Weiner) whose family if not personally, is part of Brotherhood leadership.

Millions rejoice but more trouble looms as army suspends constitution, says government of technocrats will take over until new elections; 39 killed in protests

Times of Israel: CAIRO (AP) — The armed forces ousted Egypt’s first democratically elected president Wednesday after just a year in power, installing a temporary civilian government, suspending the constitution and calling for new elections. Islamist President Mohammed Morsi denounced it as a “full coup” by the military.

After the televised announcement by the army chief, millions of anti-Morsi protesters in cities around the country erupted in delirious scenes of joy, with shouts of “God is great” and “Long live Egypt.”

Fireworks burst over crowds dancing and waving flags in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, epicenter of the 2011 uprising that ousted autocrat Hosni Mubarak. Now it was one of multiple centers of a stunning four-day anti-Morsi revolt that brought out the biggest anti-government rallies Egypt has seen, topping even those of 2011.

But the move potentially throws the country into further confrontation.

Moments after the army statement, a statement on the Egyptian president’s office’s Twitter account quoted Morsi as saying the military’s measures “represent a full coup categorically rejected by all the free men of our nation.”

Morsi has insisted his legitimacy as an elected president must not be violated or Egypt could be thrown in to violence. Some of his Islamist backers, tens of thousands of whom took to the streets in recent days, have vowed to fight to the end.

“Down with the rule of the military,” some of them chanted after the army announcement, reviving a chant used by leftist revolutionaries during the nearly 17 months of direct military rule that followed Mubarak’s removal.

The army has insisted it is not carrying out a coup, but acting on the will of the people to clear the way for a new leadership.

In his speech, army chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said the chief justice of the Supreme Constitutional Court would step in as interim president until new elections are held. He would be sworn in judges of his court, el-Sissi said. A government of technocrats would be formed with “full powers” to run the country.

El-Sissi spoke while flanked by the country’s top Muslim and Christian clerics as well as pro-reform leader Mohammed ElBaradei and two representatives of the youth opposition movement behind the wave of protests.

He promised “not to exclude anyone or any movement” from further steps. But he did not define the length of the transition period or when presidential elections would be held. He also did not mention any role for the military.

The constitution, drafted by Morsi’s Islamist allies, was “temporarily suspended,” and a panel of experts and representatives of all political movements will consider amendments. He did not say whether a referendum would be held to ratify the changes, as customary.

Seeking to avert a destabilizing backlash, he warned that the armed forces, police will deal “decisively” with violence.

After the 9:20 p.m., the Brotherhood’s TV station went blank

Shortly before the 9: 20 p.m. announcement, the army deployed troops, commandos and armored vehicles in cities around the country. In Cairo, they stationed on bridges over the Nile River and at major intersections. They also surrounded rallies being held by Morsi’s supporters — an apparent move to contain them.

Travel bans were imposed on Morsi and top figures from his Muslim Brotherhood including its chief Mohammed Badie and his powerful deputy Khairat el-Shater.

At least 39 people have been killed in clashes since Sunday, when the mass protests against Morsi began — hiking fears that greater violence could erupt when the final move was made against him. Street battles in the Nile Delta city of Kafr el-Sheikh on Wednesday left at least 200 people injured.

The army’s move is the second time in Egypt’s 2 ½ years of turmoil that it has forced out the country’s leader. It pushed out Mubarak and took power itself. This time, however, its removal of an elected figure could be more explosive.

Elected with 51.7 percent of the vote in last year’s presidential election, Morsi took office vowing to move beyond his roots in the Muslim Brotherhood.

But his presidency threw the country into deep polarization. Those who took to the streets this week say he lost his electoral legitimacy because he tried to give the Brotherhood and Islamist allies a monopoly on power, pushed through a constitution largely written by his allies and mismanaged the country’s multiple crises.

“Now we want a president who would really be the president of all Egyptians and will work for the country,” Said Shahin, a 19-year-old protester in Tahrir, said, falling to the ground to pray as soon as el-Sissi spoke.

Mahmoud Badr, spokesman for Tamarod, or Rebel — the youth movement behind the rallies — praised the crowds in the streets saying, they succeded in “putting your revolution back on track.”

“Let’s start a new page, a new page based on participation,” he wrote on his Twitter account. “Our hand is extended to all

Morsi and his allies say the opposition never accepted their appeals for dialogue — seen by opponents as empty gestures — and that Mubarak loyalists throughout the government sabotaged their attempts to bring change.

The military had issued an ultimatum on Monday giving Morsi 48 hours to find some solution with its opponents. Any deal, however, was a near impossibility, making it inevitable the military would move.

Earlier in the day, el-Sissi met with ElBaradei, Egypt’s top Muslim cleric — Al-Azhar Sheik Ahmed el-Tayeb — and Coptic Pope Tawadros II, as well as youth representatives and some members of the ultraconservative Salafi movements. The consultations apparently aimed to bring as wide a consensus as possible behind the army’s moves.

But the Brotherhood boycotted the session, its political arm the Freedom and Justice Party said.

In a last-minute statement before the deadline, Morsi again rejected the military’s intervention, saying abiding by his electoral legitimacy was the only way to prevent violence. He criticized the military for “taking only one side.”

“One mistake that cannot be accepted, and I say this as president of all Egyptians, is to take sides,” he said in the statement issued by his office. “Justice dictates that the voice of the masses from all squares should be heard,” he said, repeating his offer to hold dialogue with his opponents.

“For the sake of Egypt and for historical accuracy, let’s call what is happening by its real name: Military coup,” Morsi’s top foreign policy adviser Essam al-Haddad wrote on his Facebook page.

*Mubarak was removed only to be replaced by someone worse, Morsi, backed by the Muslim Brotherhood.  Although this is a military coup, it seems to be backed by the people.  Perhaps this will give Egyptians another chance at a fair and honest government of their choice.  We can only hope and pray.  Maybe it is a chance at a more stable Middle East… again, we can only hope and pray.

One thing about the protests that wasn't mentioned in the U.S. is the massive anti-Obama sentiment.

 
Egyptians who have thronged the streets in three days of nationwide pro- and anti-Morsi and anti-Muslim Brotherhood protests. Morsi's speech was answered by loud chants of "irhal!" - "leave!" from the protesters.

The Islamist rats were quicly leaving the sinking ship. Foreign Minister Kamel Amr tended his resignation, becoming the sixth minister to quit within the past 48 hours. Two of Morsi’s presidential spokesmen also quit, as did Sami Enan, Morsi's military adviser.

Doug Ross has an entire gallery of 15 photos showing the signs of the protesters that are being carried around excoriating President Obama and US Ambassador Anne Patterson, who they correctly see as enabling Morsi and the Brotherhood's tyranny.  Hillary Clinton would be up there as well had she not already resigned.

Of course, the real story is what happens next. With Morsi ousted, a huge blow against the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamist Caliphate and President Obama (and Hillary Clinton) appear to have been aiding and abetting in the Arab world, which is a wonderful thing.

But Egypt still has terrific problems that need to be solved. Will military chief and defense minister General Abdel Fattah al-Sissi take over as strongman? Will the military midwife a government? And if so, what kind of government? Have the Egyptians finally developed a taste for freedom and democracy? We'll see.

It's now official. Defense minister and army chief General al-Sissi has announced that the Islamist constitution has been suspended, Morsi has been removed and arrested (he's been jailed in an undisclosed location) and that that the chief of the Constitutional court would be named as civilian head of government during a transitional period before another election. Under the army's control, of course, although al-Sissi didn't say that.  That period will likely be anywhere from 9 months to a year.

Al-Sissi said the new government would be “diverse and include all the people,” and that the constitution would be revised to reverse changes made by the Muslim Brotherhood and President Mohammed Morsi.

Travel bans have been imposed on the top figures from the Muslim Brotherhood including its chief Mohammed Badie and his deputy Khairat el-Shater, and Morsi is in custody.

Perhaps as we celebrate our own 4th of July and the brave people who fought for their and our freedom, by standing up to tyranny, we should also honor the brave people of Egypt who stood against tyranny this week.  Too bad their tyranny included our own president and his administration.

Prayers-up for Egypt and for all those who have stood up courageously throughout history.  We in America can hopefully draw some parallels back to our own fight for freedom and independence in the past and draw some knowledge, courage and encouragement from this week’s events for the fight that might lie ahead.  AM~

Reuters: Princess Fawzia Fuad, a daughter and sister of Egyptian kings and the first wife of the last Shah of Iran, died on Tuesday in Alexandria, a member of the former royal family and a senior local police officer said.

Her death at the age of 91 was also reported on a Facebook page associated with her nephew, King Fuad II, Egypt's deposed and exiled last monarch.

Fawzia, the glamorous sister of Fuad's father King Farouk, married Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in 1939, before he acceded the throne in Tehran. They divorced nine years later.

Princess Melekper Toussou, a descendent of the former Egyptian royal family, told Reuters Fawzia had had no easy life.

"In a nutshell, "contre mauvaise fortune, bon coeur" (a brave spirit in the face of ill fortune) I think describes her perfectly," she said in apparent reference to her brief marriage to the Shah and to the 1952 coup that stripped the Egyptian royal family of its titles and its wealth.

She was one of a handful of royal family members who continued to live in Egypt after the 1952 revolution

"In all the years I knew her I never heard her complain, and, God knows, she had many reasons to," said Melekper Toussou.

Fawzia remarried, to an Egyptian army officer, on her return from her failed marriage to the Shah. The Shah went on to marry twice more and died in Cairo in 1980, less than a year after he was deposed in the Islamic revolution.

"The royal family of Egypt announces to the nation that it is mourning the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Fawzia Fuad, daughter of His Majesty King Fuad I and sister of His Majesty King Faruk I and aunt of his Majesty King Fuad II and the former Empress of Iran," read a statement on the Facebook page.

"The funeral procession for Her Royal Highness Princess Fawzia will start after noon prayer on Wednesday," it added.

Relative Mohamed Yakin said she would be buried in Cairo.

The Miracle(s) of Hanukkah

A story is told about a father asking his daughter what she learned in religious school. She answers excitedly: “The rabbi told us the story of how the Jews escaped from Egypt and the evil pharaoh. It was amazing. There was this giant airplane that flew down, and thousands of Jews raced on board, and it pulled away just as Pharaoh’s armies were chasing it, and then all the Egyptians got in their airplanes, but the Jewish airplane shot down the Egyptian ones with UZI submachine guns, and all the Egyptians drowned in the ocean!”

“Wow! Did the rabbi really say that?” the dad asked.

“Not exactly … but you’d never believe the story that she told!”

It is hard to believe the stories of miracles that seem so pervasive in Jewish tradition. Many of us don’t take them literally. Yet Hanukkah seems to be all about celebrating a miracle. In fact, the major mitzvah (commandment) of Hanukkah is “to publicize the miracle…”

Maimonides says: “The mitzvah of lighting a Hanukkah lamp is a very well-loved mitzvah and one needs to be very careful to do it in order to proclaim the miracle and to add praise to God and gratitude for the miracles God did for us.” (Laws of Hanukkah 4:7)

What is the miracle we are supposed to publicize? Actually, it depends on which source you consult. If you look at the Books of Maccabees, books that are not part of the Hebrew Bible, the miracle is the military victory of the Maccabees over the Greek-Syrian army. Why is Hanukkah eight days then? According to these Books of Maccabees, either because it is a delayed celebration of Sukkot (the harvest festival) or because the Hasmoneans entered the Temple with eight iron spears which they covered with wood and lit for eight days.

If, on the other hand, you read the Talmud, you discover: “On the twenty-fifth of Kislev commence the days of Hanukkah which are eight … For when the Greeks entered the Temple, they defiled all the oil in the Temple and when the Hasmonean dynasty prevailed against and defeated them, they searched and found only one cruse of oil with the seal of the High Priest, but it contained sufficient oil for only one day’s lighting. Yet a miracle occurred there, and they kindled [light] for eight days because of it. The following year these days were appointed a Festival.”

Why two different versions? The Books of Macabees, written closer to the time of the military victory, describe the Jewish people as independent, living under their own sovereign rule. They tell the story of a civil war between Jews who wanted to be more like the Greeks with whom they lived, and those Jews, like the Macabees, who resisted assimilation. The Macabees were ultimately the victors, winning a guerrilla war against the forces of assimilation and the Greek-Syrian army that supported them. But by the time of the Talmud, the independent state of the Jews had been destroyed and any hint of military victory would have been seditious and dangerous. For the rabbis of the Talmud, the hero was God, not the Maccabees, and Hanukkah became a spiritual victory, not a military one.

And what about for us? What is the miracle? The truth is, there are many. One is the miracle of the victory of the few against the many. To paraphrase Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Another is the miracle of the courage to be different. It is the ultimate irony and misunderstanding of Hanukkah, which is the story of a fight against assimilation, to celebrate it as just the opposite — as a kind of Jewish Christmas complete with a “Hanukkah bush.”

Finally, there is the most famous miracle of all: the little cruise of oil that burned for eight days. It is this miracle that gives rise to the lighting of the hanukiah, adding one candle for each night, until on the eighth night it is fully ablaze with light. Rabbi David Hartman offers a powerful insight into this miracle when he questions why we celebrate Hanukkah for eight days. If there was enough oil to light the lamp for one day, then there is no miracle on that first day. So Hanukkah ought to be a seven day holiday. But we celebrate eight days. Clearly there must be another miracle here, which includes that first day. For Rabbi Hartman, the miracle wasn’t that the oil lasted an additional seven days, but rather that those ancestors lit the first wick at all, without being certain that the light would last long enough to complete to the rededication of the Temple. The miracle was that they took the chance, a risk, a leap of faith. They took the first step even though they were not sure they had enough resources to succeed.

What is the real miracle of Hanukkah? It is the miracle of human courage that empowers us to take risks for the future even in our imperfect, uncertain world. It is the courage, even in the darkest of times, to create our own light.

And Why Are There So Many Different Spellings for Hanukkah?

There are so many different spellings for Hanukkah because with all Jewish holidays the original language is Hebrew, or ancient Hebrew. In Hebrew, there is only one correct spelling for the holiday, which is spelled by the Hebrew letters chet, nun,vav,kaf, hey.

When trying to write a Hebrew word in English (also true in the re-writing of any other language, especially one that is no longer used like Ancient Hebrew and Latin), the result is not always clear. for example, the right pronunciation of chanukah is. Neither "ch", nor "h", but a consonant that doesn't exist in English (similar to the spanish "J").
Therefore, you can write hanukah in every way you want, as long as the other side knows what you are talking about...

With the exception of a few wildcards, there are 16 different spellings, based on four phonetic variations:

• The word starts with “H” or “Ch”
• Second consonant is “nn” or “n”

I think I must have grown up with “Chanukah”, because it look most right to me. At Lila’s pre-school Hanukkah party, there were three different spellings within 10 feet of one another. In the interest of ending the ridiculousness of the dozens of spellings, I’m going forward with “Hanukkah” which is the preferred spelling used by the Library of Congress. At least it’s always the same in Hebrew: חֲנֻכָּה

This would be a fun thing to make dynamic, even chart over time. If only I had time… Jeremy Blachman did the same Hanukkah spelling thing in 2004, interesting to see how much bigger the Google indexes have grown in 12 months.

The movie that made Chuck Norris tear up: Last Ounce of Courage

New project earns highest accolades from legendary tough guy

A movie debuting Friday, “Last Ounce of Courage,” already is a one-of-a-kind as the only film ever to earn the “Chuck Norris Seal of Approval.”

The veteran martial arts champion, action movie and “Walker, Texas Ranger” star loves it so much it’s the only film he’s promoted, aside from the ones in which he appeared.

Actor Marshall Teague, who plays the lead in the movie, told WND that when he gave his longtime friend Norris a rough cut of the movie to review, he was hoping for some advice.

What he got from Norris was even more than an unqualified endorsement, as the legendary tough guy asked for permission to promote the film.

How much did it impact Norris?

“When we finished the film, I must say Carlos was misty,” Teague told WND.

Wait, that can’t be. Chuck Norris Fact No. 16 says, “Chuck Norris never uses a stunt double, except during crying scenes.”

Or maybe what Teague was seeing was just the result of Fact No. 93, “Chuck Norris uses Tabasco sauce for eye drops.”

The movie, Teague tells WND, is about faith, family and freedoms.

“I’m talking about the freedoms we as a nation enjoy every day, speech, religion, the freedom to gather,” Teague said.

The story revolves around the mayor of a small town, where Bob Revere, played by Teague (“Roadhouse,” “The Rock” and “Armageddon”) is challenged by the apathy that is eroding America’s basic freedoms.

It’s bound to be a success.

“This is the only movie in my life that I’ve ever promoted that I’m not in,” Norris said in an interview about the project. “I just want to encourage … everyone to go see this movie. You will not be disappointed.”

Teague told WND that the U.S. is the greatest country on earth, but people have stopped noticing.

“Wake up people,” he said. “Take a moment of your day and realize what you have, what has been given to you by people, our forefathers. They saw in the future how great this country could be.”

In a commentary for WND, Norris wrote: “I will also let you in on a little secret about the movie: The mega-inspiring speech given by Marshall Teague’s character near the end of the movie from atop a downtown building was unscripted and flowed from his patriot passion in a way that rivals the best patriotic or faith orator.”

He continued: “There is no more perfect time than right now for the release of ‘Last Ounce of Courage,’ being roughly two months away from electing a new president. It can help us take back America. In particular, it can help motivate the 30 million evangelical Christians who stayed home during the 2008 election when Obama won the presidency by 10 million votes.

Teague told WND there have been changes in the U.S., people converse via computer rather then speaking face-to-face, events are moving faster, and there are so many more deadlines and pressures.

But, he said, Americans “need to stop … and really take time and go meet your neighbor, and say hello.”

The mutual relationship that can result, he said, is called “respect.”

It’s needed now more than ever, because, as Ronald Reagan said, freedom is never more than one generation away from being lost, Teague said.

“Our country was formed by a people who saw the future,” he said. “It is our responsibility to keep this nation great and stand by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.”

He continued: “When one voice connects to another, and another, and another … what you end up with is a choir of voices that can be heard across the nation.”

Teague said the project also honors the nation’s military, whose sacrifices have continued to protect freedom, as well as the youth, through the character who challenges Teague in the movie.

It’s a Veritas Communications project by the film company dedicated to making films with a purpose.

In a statement released announcing the decision to award “The Chuck Norris Seal of Approval” to the movie, Norris said, “I neither star in, nor do I have an above-the-line credit on, or other affiliation with, ’Last Ounce of Courage. ‘

“Yet allowing the use of my ‘Official Seal of Approval’ is the least I can do to support a project so consistent with my core values and life principles. In addition to the film’s basic reminder that our precious freedoms are not always free, Marshall Teague gives the performance of his career as a small-town mayor who is inspired by his grandson to take a stand when a public religious display honoring his fallen son in Iraq is targeted for removal. No one should miss the message of this motion picture or his moving performance.”

I’m ‘Just’ A Blogger

Journalism used to be an honorable profession dating back to the time of the heralds. Journalism is writing history in real time. It isn’t the business of peering backwards through a glass darkly in a retrospective. It isn’t consensus. It isn’t repeating the meme. It isn’t filtered for political correctness or partisanship. It’s raw and, in its pure form, the unvarnished reality – the deeply disturbing photo of a summary execution, the hysterical observation of the conflagration of a crashing Zeppelin or the fearless observation that a government official has violated both the law of the land – even including the Constitution – and international treaties by supplying arms to active criminals in a subversive effort to abrogate the rights of his own citizenry.

Journalism isn’t who you are, journalism is what you do. It is the courage to tell the truth regardless of personal risk. And so it used to be; today though, we live in an age where being a “professional journalist” means having a license to lie.

When I first saw the video above, I was overcome by several emotions. The first of which was incredulity closely followed by anger as I just could not believe how viciously Juan Williams attacked Michelle Malkin, slinging at her what he considered an insult: “I’m a real reporter, I’m not a blogger out in the blogosphere somewhere…” He couldn’t debate her in the present with a solid retort, so he resorted to what he deemed insults. When Williams was unjustly fired from NPR, the entire conservative blogosphere stood up as one and defended him vociferously. Let’s see, it took him a matter of seconds to revert to his bitter liberal ways, I believe. Juan, I’ve got news for you. The old media is dead, not dying, dead. The new media is what real journalism is – unfettered, real and in your face. A reporter used to make his bones as a journalist by breaking a big story and I do believe you’ve forgotten what that is like. You can just toddle off back to your dinosaur media roots, where all you have to do is look good and pretend to be wise while your viewership slips into oblivion. It’s time for the big boys and girls to roll up their sleeves and do the real work you faux journalists can’t be bothered to do.

If being a true journalist is defined by bravery, ethics, excellent writing and oratory skills – well Juan Williams doesn’t begin to compare to Michelle Malkin. He also obviously has poor manners and is like a cornered badger when he is losing an argument – he bites first and asks questions later (in an arrogant, condescending manner of course). Malkin is a true reporter of the first order and here’s one for ya, Juan… people actually read what she writes and listen to what she says. I’m sure that is a foreign concept to you.

I could not be at Right Online 2012 in Vegas this year, but I listened to Michelle in the above video. She was incredible! And I am sure that Andrew Breitbart is looking down from heaven and smiling that impish smile of his. I know he would be very proud of Michelle and all the other bloggers who are carrying on and fighting the fight of our lives. Bloggers are exposing tyranny and corruption wherever they find it regardless of credit or fame. Because that is what real journalists do, that is what bloggers do.

I have been blogging for about 11 years now. Neal Boortz gave me my first break and I will miss him – he’s retiring this year and Herman Cain will take his place. Michelle Malkin was actually one of the first people who got me looking into Progressives and the Obama administration. Trevor Loudon was the other. Both are giants in the reporting world and both are mentors of mine. Most of the information out there today came from bloggers – you just don’t hear it on the “news.” The mainstream media is in the bag for the Obama administration and many, if not most, are Marxists. Yep, I went there.

So, ask yourself this, whom do you trust? Those that hobnob with Marxists and hate this country and our Constitution or the bloggers who uncover the truth, sometimes risking their lives to do so? We do this in our spare time with no pay and little gratitude and lots of hate. I’m just a blogger, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world, just for freedom.

Walker and America Win… Unions and Team Obama Lose Handily

The results are in…

The Democrats fueled by the unions recalled Republican Scott Walker and his lieutenant governor, not of wrong doing, but for doing what he/they said they would do if elected in 2010.

Real Clear Politics:

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Sixty million dollars in campaign spending and 15 months of protests later, Wisconsin voters decided Tuesday that Republican Gov. Scott Walker should keep his job after all. With over 60 percent of the precincts reporting, he held a 15-point lead over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, 57 percent to 42 percent, and was projected to win by the major news networks.

The victory was the culmination of a heated recall election that began in the corridors of the state capitol and then transformed into a national test of the conservative grassroots and the power of organized labor. Walker's win deals a blow to the latter and energizes the former.

The special election turnout reached presidential levels, yet President Obama did not even visit the state as the recall campaign played out. As the race looked more and more like it would go to Governor Walker and many Democrats called for at least a quick Wisconsin stopover to show some support for Mayor Tom Barrett, the best Obama could muster was a tweet on the last night of the campaign.

The Democrat strategists and pundits and the unions will try to minimize the significance of this victory but in reality it was a significant victory for Scott Walker, Wisconsin, the GOP and America.  It is also the beginning of the decline of the power of private sector unions’ perhaps unions in general, and a huge disappointment for Team Obama.

Based on some skewed exit polls the outcome of this election was gagged to be tight.  Many thought it would be a very late night before the outcome could be called.  Instead, as Sarah Palin said, it will be a late night in Chicago at Team Obama headquarters, where they are no doubt much more worried than they will ever admit.

MADISON — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker beat back a recall challenge Tuesday, winning both the right to finish his term and a voter endorsement of his strategy to curb state spending, which included the explosive measure that eliminated union rights for most public workers.

The rising Republican star becomes the first governor in U.S. history to survive a recall attempt with his defeat of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and the union leaders who rallied for months against his agenda.

In his acceptance speech, Walker focused on growth, healing and working together.

Raising the Colors – 10 Years Later

A former Marine, and a man I’m proud to call friend, recently had a flag raising ceremony at his home in Pennsylvania. The flag raising was attended by Ken’s friends and neighbors (one of whom — a Vietnam veteran himself — helped with the heavy lifting), and an active duty Marine Sergeant Major. They raised three flags: Old Glory, the Marines Standard and the flag of a Pennsylvania Rifles regiment, to the accompaniment of the music appropriate for each, and a musket volley salute. Two days after the flag raising ceremony, the Stars and Stripes flew at half mast, in honor of those who died in an act of war on American soil ten long years ago.

In and of itself, raising a flag generally merits little notice, however a twenty-five foot flagpole installation at the domicile of one of American’s finest — one who has stood on the wall that most only hear of in metaphor — is considerably more than a token hat tip to patriotism. It is our nation’s guidon, front and center before the world. It is unabashed and unashamed pride in what makes our nation exceptional and the greatness of those who have fought and bled to keep it free.

More than this, the flag in question rises on the tenth anniversary of, among other things, a modern day of infamy. And it says to all who see it, “We are still here and we still stand tall.”

I asked Ken if he would be so kind as to pen something to express his own impressions and he obliged.

On September 9th, I hosted a party for a Flag Raising Ceremony at my house. Garry asked me to touch on a few thoughts about why I decided to have a party to dedicate a flagpole, remember the Marine Corps and to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. It seems an odd thing to celebrate, a tragedy, doesn’t it?

One word sums it up. Heritage.

As a young Marine, I learned all manner of names, dates and important events that the Marine Corps feels both defines it, and that young Marine recruits need to know before they can graduate and earn the title of United States Marine. We gained this knowledge in formal classes. We learned it from our Drill Instructors. We had to pass a written test demonstrating we knew who Archibald Henderson was; when and where the Marine Corps was founded.

To most Americans, such things might be little more than trivia. A college student might memorize the material, pass the exam and promptly discard it from memory as he prepares to repeat the exercise next semester. But to Marines, this is our legacy. It is our heritage. We draw upon the deeds of those who came before us for strength and inspiration.

Take for example the Marines and Navy Corpsman who raised the American Flag on Mount Suribachi. I would wager that there exists no other picture in American history that an American wouldn’t recognize, know what that picture was of and what it meant to the war effort in WWII. For decades afterward, the men in that picture were regarded as heroes and Marines to this day draw inspiration from them.

However, if we dig down past the hero label and into the lives of these men, we find that they were ordinary men who performed extraordinary things. And for me, their true life stories are a source of great strength. Of the six men depicted in Joe Rosenthal’s picture, three (Franklin Sousley, Harlon Block and Michael Strank) did not survive the battle; the three survivors (John Bradley, Rene Gagnon and Ira Hayes) became celebrities upon the publication of the photo.

Sergeant Michael Strank, born in Czechoslovakia, immigrated as a child with his family to Cambria County, near Johnstown, PA. He joined the Marine Corps after serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps, a public relief program for unmarried, unemployed men whose families had been hit hard by the Great Depression. It was hard, physical labor that prepared him well for life as a young Marine.

He was the oldest and most experienced of the six men in the picture. He was a veteran of the WWII era Marine Raider Battalion’s amphibious landings in the Solomon Islands, Guadalcanal and the hard fighting that took place in the Battle for Bougainville. Six days after raising the flag on Mount Suribachi, his squad came under heavy fire and took cover. While forming a plan of attack, he was struck and killed by friendly naval gunfire. Corporal Harlon Block, who looked up to Strank, as all of the squad did, took over command.

Corporal Harlon Block idolized Strank and followed his every instruction without question. L.B. Holly, who served in his squad and who was with him when he died, said of Strank, “He was the best Marine I ever knew.” Corporal Harlon Block, of Texas, was killed in a mortar blast only a few hours after his squad leader, Sgt Strank.

A third member of Sgt Strank’s squad, PFC Franklin Sousley from Kentucky was killed on Iwo Jima 26 days after helping to raise the flag. As the terribly bloody battle for control of the island raged on, he was shot by a Japanese sniper in the back.

Rene Gagnon, of New Hampshire, was not a member of Sgt. Strank’s squad. He was assigned to the Battalion Headquarters as a runner. In fact, Ira Hayes despised Gagnon. Communications up the hill that day were faulty and Gagnon got orders to carry walkie talkies and batteries to the forward position. As he was leaving, the Battalion Commander gave him a larger flag to take along with him up the hill and with orders that, “Colonel Johnson wants this big flag run up high, so every son of a bitch on this whole cruddy island can see it.”

For years after the war, Gagnon tried to capitalize on the fame he had from the War Bond tours. During the cross-country tours, businessmen, politicians and government officials – all caught up in the drive of winning the war and the euphoria of meeting a “genuine war hero” – promised him lucrative work and notoriety. Those jobs never materialized. He unsuccessfully tried to break into movies and television. “I’m pretty well known in Manchester,” he told a reporter. “When someone who doesn’t know me is introduced to me, they say, ‘That was you in The Photograph?’ What the hell are you doing working here? If I were you, I’d have a good job and lots of money.”

Gagnon died at age 54 of a heart attack. He was an alcoholic and worked at menial jobs, but was fired from most of them. In his last job, he had worked as a janitor at an apartment complex in Manchester. As recorded in the book Flags of Our Fathers (DVD), in his latter years Gagnon only participated in events that praised the flag raising at his wife’s urging. He said she enjoyed the limelight, whereas he, by that time, no longer did.

While Rene Gagnon sought after fame, Ira Hayes, Pima Indian from Arizona, ran from it. He made Gagnon swear an oath not to reveal he was one of the men in The Photograph. Gagnon kept to that oath until he was ordered, then threatened under punishment, to reveal Hayes’ identity. Hayes was immediately recalled from the Pacific to tour with Doc Bradley and Rene Gagnon.

When men called Ira Hayes a hero, he said the only heroes he knew were the men he served with. After the war, Hayes accumulated a record of 52 arrests for public drunkenness. Referring to his alcoholism, he once said, “I was sick. I guess I was about to crack up thinking about all my good buddies. They were better men than me and they’re not coming back.” On the morning of January 24, 1955, Hayes was found dead, lying in his own blood and vomit, near an abandoned adobe hut in Sacaton, Arizona. He had been drinking and playing cards at a bar on the reservation with his friends and brothers the night before. He died at age 32.

Doc John Bradley was the only of the three survivors who managed to lead a healthy, long life. He did his best to put the war behind him, but his wife said he’d cry in his sleep for years after the war. He never spoke of it to his eight children. They never knew he was one of the six in The Famous Photograph. And they never learned he had won the Navy Cross until after his death, when a family friend told them what their Dad had really done in the war.

The stories from Antiquity give us legendary heroes. The Greek and Roman tales speak of gifted men and children descended from gods. The English and European myths and fables give us stories of Beowulf and King Arthur. Heroes serve as conveniences for telling stories to our children at bed time. They teach lessons and epitomize the good qualities, rarely having any of the bad, found within human nature. Such men are so extra-ordinary that we cannot draw upon their stories for strength when we need it. They’re not real.

I like to believe that the reason the Marine Corps wants its young Marines to know about those before them, including their flaws, is so they can draw upon their stories for strength. Admiral Nimitz said of the men on Iwo Jima, “Uncommon Valor was a Common Virtue.” Ordinary men did extraordinary things. I won’t call men like them heroes; they wouldn’t – and didn’t – want that label.

I’ll call them inspirations.

What ordinary men and women did the morning of September 11th, 2001, also gives us inspiration. Those people did what Americans do. All across the Northeast: high in the skies of the World Trade Center; on the ground at the Pentagon; in the air over Pennsylvania – ordinary people did extraordinary things. The first blows were struck back at the terrorists when the passengers of United Flight 93 fought back. The nation was unified and in the days after, we showed the world what sort of character Americans had. We mourned; some mourned while they worked. And we vowed not to tremble. Just as Japan awoke a nation and discovered what a determined America could accomplish, so have the Islamic terror groups.

Ordinary people performing extraordinary deeds – this is our heritage and those who did them serve as our inspiration.

And, yes, the ceremony was held after dark. Sometimes, when you assemble a cadre of working stiffs and active duty troops, evening is all you’ll have. However, 9/11 was a fine day. Perhaps just a little more somber than it was ten years ago.

The second night of the “Restoring Courage” events in Israel took place the Old Train Station in Jerusalem.

“An amazing land, an amazing people,“ Glenn Beck said as he began the program he entitled ”Courage to Remember.”  The program focused on the Holocaust and the lessons that need to be newly learned today.

Rabbi Moshe Rothchild opened with a prayer tying the evening‘s location to the evening’s theme:

“Tonight as we gather beside these old train tracks in Jerusalem, we remember another set of tracks.

The tracks that led our brothers and sisters to the infamous places of Auschwitz, Birkenau, Buchenwald, Majdanek, Treblinka and Sobibor…and all the places of death and darkness.

We pray that our gathering her tonight should bring forth healing and light.”

Beck then introduced actor Jon Voight, who’s talk veered from comical accounts of his attempts at dancing to Jewish tunes, to deeply serious stories of his work in Israel with victims wounded by suicide bombers.  “What I witnessed would tear my heart out,” he said.  “I feel completely outraged for anyone who would make any excuse for this kind of barbarism.  And I feel complete contempt for anyone who is not intelligent enough to see that this propaganda in the media, painting the Palestinians as poor victims, is capable of destroying the Jewish nation in Israel.”

The main part of the program featured a screening of a very personal documentary, “Kleiner Rudy,” which tells the family story of filmmaker Michelle Stein Teer.  She chronicles her grandfather’s return, at age 85, to the German town of Norden where he lost his own father and thirty members of his family the Holocaust.

High School Principal with Principles

This is what we need, not only in our schools, but in Washington DC

A Speech Every American High School Principal Should Give.

To the students and faculty of our high school:

I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no greater calling than to teach young people.

I would like to apprise you of some important changes coming to our school. I am making these changes because I am convinced that most of the ideas that have dominated public education in America have worked against you, against your teachers and against our country.

First, this school will no longer honor race or ethnicity. I could not care less if your racial makeup is black, brown, red, yellow or white. I could not care less if your origins are African, Latin American, Asian or European, or if your ancestors arrived here on the Mayflower or on slave ships. The only identity I care about, the only one this school will recognize, is your individual identity -- your character, your scholarship, your humanity. And the only national identity this school will care about is American.

This is an American public school, and American public schools were created to make better Americans. If you wish to affirm an ethnic, racial or religious identity through school, you will have to go elsewhere. We will end all ethnicity, race and non-American nationality-based celebrations. They undermine the motto of America , one of its three central values -- e pluribus Unum, "from many, one." And this school will be guided by America 's values. This includes all after-school clubs. I will not authorize clubs that divide students based on any identities. This includes race, language, religion, sexual orientation or whatever else may become in vogue in a society divided by political correctness.

Your clubs will be based on interests and passions, not blood, ethnic, racial or other physically defined ties. Those clubs just cultivate narcissism -- an unhealthy preoccupation with the self -- while the purpose of education is to get you to think beyond yourself. So we will have clubs that transport you to the wonders and glories of art, music, astronomy, languages you do not already speak, carpentry and more. If the only extracurricular activities you can imagine being interested in are those based on ethnic, racial or sexual identity, that means that little outside of yourself really interests you.

Second, I am uninterested in whether English is your native language. My only interest in terms of language is that you leave this school speaking and writing English as fluently as possible. The English language has united America 's citizens for over 200 years, and it will unite us at this school. It is one of the indispensable reasons this country of immigrants has always come to be one country.. And if you leave this school without excellent English language skills, I would be remiss in my duty to ensure that you will be prepared to successfully compete in the American job market. We will learn other languages here -- it is deplorable that most Americans only speak English --but if you want classes taught in your native language rather than in English, this is not your school.

Third, because I regard learning as a sacred endeavor, everything in this school will reflect learning's elevated status. This means, among other things, that you and your teachers will dress accordingly. Many people in our society dress more formally for Hollywood events than for church or school. These people have their priorities backward. Therefore, there will be a formal dress code at this school.
Fourth, no obscene language will be tolerated anywhere on this school's property -- whether in class, in the hallways or at athletic events. If you can't speak without using the f-word, you can't speak. By obscene language I mean the words banned by the Federal Communications Commission, plus epithets such as "Nigger," even when used by one black student to address another black, or "bitch," even when addressed by a girl to a girlfriend. It is my intent that by the time you leave this school, you will be among the few your age to instinctively distinguish between the elevated and the degraded, the holy and the obscene.

Fifth, we will end all self-esteem programs. In this school, self-esteem will be attained in only one way -- the way people attained it until decided otherwise a generation ago -- by earning it. One immediate consequence is that there will be one valedictorian, not eight.

Sixth, and last, I am reorienting the school toward academics and away from politics and propaganda. No more time will be devoted to scaring you about smoking and caffeine, or terrifying you about sexual harassment or global warming. No more semesters will be devoted to condom wearing and teaching you to regard sexual relations as only or primarily a health issue... There will be no more attempts to convince you that you are a victim because you are not white, or not male, or not heterosexual or not Christian. FIRST THEY CAME...  (Let us not forget)

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

Then they locked up the social democrats,

What will it take for us to wake up and see that we, the world, are going down the same ugly path that we did only 70-years ago?  There are still people alive who lived through the Holocaust and we are about to let it all happen again.  How can that be??

Where we stand as a nation, as Christians and American Jews and as individuals will matter!!

It really is unbelievable how ‘right on’ Beck was over the past 5-years, including about Israel about what was coming, and there is no reason to think that he won’t continue to be right.  What amazes me most, because I have a lot of Jewish friends and acquaintances, is that they generally don’t get it and that they still support Obama and somehow dislike Glenn Beck who speaks up for them more than anyone I know.  I grew up in the LA area, so like NYC and Miami, there was/is a high population of Jews and I’ve talked and debated with some of them many times. How could you not see this with Hitler’s Germany still in recent memory?

Of course, not all!!  During the ObamaCare cram through, I was leafleting and giving talks about the nightmares in the bill  at community centers and anywhere someone would listen.  At the end of one session, an elderly Jewish woman came up to me and showed me the numbers tattooed on her arm.  With tears in her eyes, she said to me, “Please don’t stop what you are doing because it is happening again and people are again not seeing it!”.  I think of her a lot.  It both haunts me and motivates me!

You don’t have to be a Jew, as Glenn so eloquently points out to stand with Israel, to understand what is at stake, or to have been (or be in the future) affected by the mentality that created Nazi Germany.  And do not believe for a moment that the Reich and the ideas behind it were unique to Hitler, to Germany, or to that era.  The supporters include(d) Fabians, American Progressives, Marxists, elites from all over and Muslims to name just a few.  Wow sounds like a lot of the same players we have in the NWO movement and the people running America into the ground right now!

I am a first generation Austro-German American.  My parents met in an American prisoner of war camp where they married.  They had been part of a medical unit.  My mom was in the Red Cross and my dad was in charge of medics, both on the German side. (It was the most humane part of the service they could find; not enlisting wasn’t an option!)   The Americans made my mom a wedding dress out of gauze bandages.  Wish I had a photo.  My mom’s family, in Germany, was part of the underground. She told a horrific stories of people disappearing and brutal treatment of dissenters, but the one that always sticks out in my mind is the  story of her uncle being caught by the Nazi’s and beaten within an inch of death and then thrown at her grandmother’s front door.  She said as he healed chunks of flesh just rotted off his body and he was mentally never the same. 

I was blessed by growing up in a family where we would have get-to-gethers and people would exchange stories from their experiences growing up overseas, from WWI in Germany, WWII in Germany… Austria… and the US and from the Korean War for the U.S. Then later my first husband was corpsman for the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.  It gave me a really rich varied perspective of history.  M~

Please pray for Glenn, his family and friends… and for Israel and get involved.  And remember the words of someone who has lived through it: “Please don’t stop what you are doing because it is happening again and people are again not seeing it!”  And if you are a Christian… time to break out the ole Bible!  We will each be held accountable as individuals, don’t buy into the Progressive Collective Salvation ruse.

In case you haven’t caught the Glenn Beck Show daily on Fox over the past 2.5 years or on radio here is a little review as Glenn moves to on, to a new adventure.  Glenn’s last show for Fox aired on 06.30.11, immediately followed by an interview and question & answer hour with Glenn on his new network GBTV… the Network of Tomorrow, Just a Day Early (their motto).

Immediately below, while Beck was on vacation in 2010; ending with an event in Anchorage on 9/11 with Sarah Palin, The Glenn Beck Show, hosted by Judge Andrew Napolitano and guest Dr. Alveda King (on Friday) put together a review of the highlight information from the show through the Summer of 2010. Glenn Beck:  Who Is He?

Glenn is fairly quiet and very protective of his family, for good reason, and is always surrounded by a security detail.  Although he does kid about his wife, Tania who he credits with saving his life, a bit on air and on stage and proudly mentions his kids now and then.  Unfortunately in today’s world you can find out at least the basics on just about everybody, including Beck, even if they preferred that you couldn’t.  Beck loves his children dearly and they are obviously, at least in part, the inspiration for his passion.  But other than the protectiveness of his family, Beck is pretty much an open book.  (There is a great story that Bill Schultz from Fox’s Redeye tells about stepping off the elevator on the 18th Floor when Beck’s show was up there.  He has you rolling in the aisle in minutes as he explains how Beck’s security team questioned what he was doing up there…  If you know who Bill Schultz is, its probably even funnier!).

His Executive Summary lists him as a conservative TV and talk radio host.  His fans would call him a friend and describe him as quick-witted, well-informed, an independent thinker, a good Christian (raised Roman Catholic and now a Mormon or LDS) and someone who cares deeply. Glenn grew up in Mount Vernon, Washington, suffers from Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), so his shows are always fast-paced.  And his staff will you that he is hard to keep up with.  His friend and Fox associate Bill O’Reilly has asked him more than once, on air, whether he ever sleeps.  Beck and O’Reilly did a series of successful live shows around the country together to mostly sold out houses.  Sarah Palin has called him "America's professor of common sense". He is a Mormon with self-described libertarian leanings, big on conservative politics and traditional family values.

Beck is a recovering alcoholic and drug user who still has back pain from an injury incurred when, intoxicated or high, he tumbled through a window.  This past year, or so, Glenn has suffered from eye problems and has been diagnosed with macular dystrophy, that he announced at his American Revival event.  He is a self-made man, who has hit rock bottom and picked himself up to reach sky, someone who most average people can relate to in one way or another.

So before moving on to the updated portion below, I guess my greatest question to put out there is: “Why?”  Why do so many people both fear and hate Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and a list of other conservatives without really knowing much about them, what they stand for or even why they think they don’t like them?!? 

The answer… the propaganda they have been fed by the mainstream media (MSM), Hollywood and the left in general. Most people, unless they subscribe to the far left ideology of the powers that be, both in our government and the media right now, they quickly find out if they do a little research and reading that what they’ve been told generally isn’t true and that they can actually relate to, agree with and even like Beck, Palin, the tea party, etc. and the principles they believe in to help save our Republic, freedom and our values.

Beck did his best to give us the Big Picture from his perspective, to inspire us (like with his trip to Wilmington Ohio) and then he encouraged us to educate ourselves and to question everything and everyone, including him.  So, what is there in that to makes people hate and attack someone… and their family… other than the fear that he was/is right?

Glenn Beck said goodbye to the Fox News Channel and his hit show on Thursday, airing his final show before going into business for himself. He told his fans that he was determined "to his last breath" to fix this country and fight for freedom. 

He followed that final Fox show with an immediate show for subscribers to his new Network: GBTV, where he will begin streaming a daily 2-hour show on the Internet on September 12, 2011.  Beck’s own two hour Internet show is only a small part of the overall GBTV plan, much of which is still to be announced.  Beck was interviewed by Raj Nair, out of San Diego, who he just hired the week before.

At the GBTV interview, Raj asked Beck a series of questions sent in by viewers.   He was then asked about GBTV and some of his other new ventures and how he can keep his ego in check. He said the purpose of all his new projects was to help others attain freedom and a positive world vision.  “I don’t want it to be about me,” he said. “That was the vehicle that got us where we are to be able to do the things that we have to do. I don’t want it to be about me.”

Beck urged his critics not to underestimate him as he moves forward. "You will pray for the time when I was only on the air for one hour a day," he said more than once.

Although the left and the MSM kept trying to feed everyone that Beck’s ratings were down, he continued to lead in his timeslot to the very end. Glenn Beck Averaged 2.175 Million in his Final Show  Cable News Ratings for Thursday, June 30, 2011  -  Glenn Beck averaged 2.175 million viewers (542,000 adults 25-54) in his final episode. While up from recent history, far off his highs when he cleared 3 million viewers. Still, Beck was second on Fox News to only The O’Reilly Factor for the night (2.54 million viewers, 559,000 A25-54).  As Beck said himself on that final show, “I'm the only host who is supposedly the most dangerous person in America because of my influence and the least influential person in America because my ratings are supposedly declining.”  During his peak, Beck’s show averaged 2.9 million viewers each day at 5 p.m. ET and 2 p.m. PT Many people watched Beck online, which couldn’t be counted in the ratings but increased as time went on and no doubt affected those ratings at least somewhat.

It was reported that Beck's relationship with Fox soured over control issues in the final months, and both sides seemed happy his show was ending.  What the real story was, we will probably never know. But Beck warmly thanked Fox News chief Roger Ailes during his last show, saying he was the smartest man he'll ever work with, a partnership put together on a handshake we are told.  Beck, his advertisers and Fox have been under attack by the left since Glenn has been on air.  And just 2 weeks after Beck left Fox, there has been a discovery that White House E-mails Show Anti-Fox Bias and the leftist (Soros group inspired) anti-Beck bias and campaigns have surfaced and been obvious to anyone paying attention!

Beck’s finale was vintage Beck, a continuous monologue while walking among his signature chalkboards and old props. He took some shots at critics, inspired and promised fealty to his fans, came close to tears but didn't succumb and even poked some fun at his image.

He chided frequent critic Jon Stewart of Comedy Central.  Beck showed a picture of Stewart's large writing staff and brought out his lone two writers as a comparison.

He threw in a causal told-you-so: "Two years ago we said there were going to be problems in Greece. Nobody paid attention."

"We tried to teach you things to help," he said. "I'm a dad, too. I want my country to be around. What we have been trying to tell you lately, over the last year, is that you are the answer. We must have faith, hope and charity in our hearts."

He and his family and part of the Mercury Radio Arts staff headed to Driggs, Idaho at Huntsman Springs (Jon Huntsman Sr. is Beck’s good friend and mentor) for a mini-4th of July vacation and event, after which he was headed to Poland and then to Israel.

Glenn was in Poland filming part of an upcoming documentary and has some incredibly moving — and horrific — pictures and stories to share including being inside a Nazi Germany picture.

He tried to explain why he was leaving Fox after 29 months, and showed a picture of Jack Paar, who unexpectedly left NBC's "Tonight Show” after being on the air for six years. He said he wanted to be more than a commentator and that he was not running away from anything. "I'm running to something," Glenn said, “before I lose my soul!”

"This show has become a movement," he said. "It's not a TV show and that's why it does not belong on television anymore. It belongs in your heart. It belongs in your neighborhood."  It belongs in the heart of patriotic Americans will to link arms and stand together for the Republic.

Glenn’s focus is on doing good, saving the Republic… saving freedom… saving the world and helping people one person at a time, one town at a time, one state at a time, one country at a time.  GBTV is a platform for everyone to connect and connect their ideas.  He signed off with his signature phrase… Good Night, America!

Beck later told an Internet audience on GBTV that he had hired a "community organizer" on Thursday to help pull together citizens who agree with his point of view.

As Fox and Beck headed for their divorce, Beck set up his own diversified business. He makes speeches, writes books (both fiction and non-fiction and a children’s book), has a daily radio show and owns the website, the Blaze, along with GBTV , which is run by a former Fox executive. He has also started an non-profit venture called “Mercury One”. Beck will sell access to GBTV for $9.95 a month, or $4.95 for those who only want to see his nightly show. GBTV promises to be much more than a TV platform on the Internet, but rather ‘the network for the tomorrow, a day early’.

Beck sold his home in Connecticut and has just leased a home in the Westlake area of Dallas, owned by baseball player Jorge Piedra and Swarovski heiress Vanessa Piedra.  He also had to give up his apartment in New York, provided by Fox News.  But he is thought to still own an apartment in Manhattan, at least the one for his daughter.  He talked about helping his daughter look for a NYC apartment on one of his last shows.  Mercury Radio Arts, his production company, will remain in New York, at least for now, meaning he could be back and forth often.  Beck has also mentioned building a studio in Dallas and ‘perhaps’ other places.  What and where all Beck is up and off to is yet a mystery… perhaps in part even to himself.

Fox launched a summertime replacement series for the Glenn Beck Show, “The Five”, after a couple weeks of the ‘Best of Beck’ re-runs, which were preempted a couple of days by the Casey Anthony trial verdict and sentencing circus, a distraction that Beck would not have focused on.  The week after Beck left Fox, the news was also filled with scandal involving the Murdoch Empire and a phone hacking scandal in Britain while here at home Fox took on Media Matters, financed by Beck’s old nemeses George Soros.  “The Five” will include a rotating crew of Fox personalities like Andrew Napolitano, Andrea Tanteros, Geraldo Rivera, Juan Williams, Monica Crowley, Greg Gutfeld, Eric Bolling, Dana Perino and Kimberly Guilfoyle debating issues of the day. (I’ve watched the first few shows and they aren’t bad, but they aren’t Beck!) As his fans say, it will take 5 people to replace Beck and his show and it still certainly won’t be the same! Whether Fox realizes or admits it yet or not, they will grow to miss him and his ratings!

Beck said more than once in the last weeks and months of his show that he needed to get involved… hands on involved and he has!!
