Beck to Publish Blockbuster on Obama’s Communist Mentor

clip_image002

By: Cliff Kincaid - Accuracy in Media – Cross-Posted at the NoisyRoom

Seizing on the scandal involving President Obama’s “open mic” obsequious conversation with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Glenn Beck has announced that Paul Kengor’s explosive new book on Frank Marshall Davis will be published this summer through Beck’s Mercury Ink outlet. Davis was a pro-Moscow communist who helped raise and mentor Obama.

Davis, Beck says, is the key to understanding Obama’s pro-Russian foreign policy.

The new Kengor book carries the title, THE COMMUNIST Frank Marshall Davis: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mentor. Mercury Ink, which is publishing the book, is the publishing imprint of Mercury Radio Arts, Inc., a multimedia production company owned by Beck.

In the embarrassing “open mic” incident, Obama told Medvedev that he needed some “space” from the Russians before meeting any more of their demands, and that he would have more “flexibility” after being re-elected. Medvedev promised to transmit the information to “Vladimir,” meaning Vladimir Putin, the former KGB officer who is going to assume the Russian presidency for the second time on May 7. Putin has described the fall of the Soviet Union as “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century.”

One of the leading analysts of the international communist movement, Kengor has written that the evidence, including Davis’s 600-page FBI file, demonstrates that “…a mentor of the current president of the United States was a Communist—and not only a party member, but an actual propagandist for Stalin’s USSR…”

Kengor, who is also a professor at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, has written extensively on “progressives” who came under the influence of the old Soviet Union. His most recent book, Dupes: How America’s Adversaries Have Manipulated Progressives for a Century, has a chapter on Davis.

A member of the Communist Party USA and under FBI surveillance for 19 years, Davis was a mentor to young Barack Obama while he was growing up in Hawaii, for as many as eight years. Kengor’s new book on the subject could be an explosive development in the presidential campaign and possibly jeopardize Obama’s chances for re-election.

Davis, who advised Obama on matters like race relations and college, was listed on the FBI’s security index, meaning that he could be arrested or detained in the event of a national emergency. The FBI material documents Davis’s anti-white and pro-Soviet views, infiltration of the Hawaii Democratic Party, and other activities.

One document from the surveillance of Davis in Hawaii reveals, “Informant stated that DAVIS…had been observed photographing shorelines and beachfronts. Informant advised that it did not appear he was photographing any particular objects.” The information strongly suggests the possibility of espionage or some other form of illegal activity on the part of Davis.

Kengor tells Accuracy in Media that he continues to see Davis’ influence on Obama.

“I do indeed see similarities between Obama and Frank Marshall Davis in that both men made favorable overtures to the Russians at the expense of both our interests and our allies,” he said. “Davis did this far more blatantly, taking Russia’s position against ours on matters ranging from the Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan to NATO and Poland and Czechoslovakia, among many others. Obama is giving in to the Russian position on American missile defense, including joint missile defense with Poland and Czechoslovakia.”

He went on, “By the way, remember that Obama had cancelled U.S. plans for that joint missile defense back on September 17, 2009. That day just happened to be the 70th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland. Poles painfully noticed the historical irony. Frank Marshall Davis joined CPUSA and sided with the Russians AFTER that invasion of Poland. The invasion, and the Hitler-Stalin Pact that precipitated it, launched WWII. And none of that dissuaded Davis from joining the Party, which he did in the middle of WWII.”

A political ad from the Republican group American Crossroads, which also highlights the “open mic” controversy, seems to suggest that Obama is acting like a secret Russian agent.

Although the ad is designed to be funny, the subject is a deadly serious one, as it involves relations with an adversary in possession of nuclear weapons that can destroy the United States and which is currently supporting such rogue regimes as Iran and Syria.

Beck’s publication of the book demonstrates his willingness to tackle subjects many would rather avoid.

Beck left Fox News after being told to mute his hard-hitting criticism and scrutiny of billionaire George Soros, a major funder of the progressive movement in the U.S. He now hosts GBTV, an Internet-based television network.

Accuracy in Media published the column, Obama’s Communist Mentor, on February 18, 2008, examining the nature of the Davis-Obama relationship and why it was covered up by Obama. This continues to be one of the most-read columns ever published by Accuracy in Media.

Anti-communist blogger Trevor Loudon had broken the story wide open, noting that a communist writer had given a March 2007 speech that mentioned Davis’s influence on Obama as possibly having a major historical impact. Obama was then a U.S. senator from Illinois with political connections to communist networks in Hawaii as well as Chicago, where he had been a community organizer and associate of Weather Underground terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn.

Davis had lived in Chicago, where he was also active in Communist Party activities, before moving to Hawaii.

Loudon said the information proved beyond doubt that the mysterious “Frank” in Obama’s book Dreams from My Father, a figure influential in Obama’s young life, was actually Frank Marshall Davis, a fact confirmed through sources in Hawaii by Accuracy in Media. The Obama campaign acknowledged the identification while insisting that Davis was just a civil rights activist.

The major media, including many conservative media personalities, did not want to cover the incriminating information about Obama because of its ominous implications and questions about Obama’s loyalty to the U.S. Hence, Obama was elected to the presidency in 2008 without an adequate vetting of his relationship to a major figure in the Moscow-funded Communist Party. Equally significant, as a candidate for a federal political office, Obama did not have to undergo an FBI background check.

We have continued these investigations, noting that a mysterious Obama trip to Russia in 2005 continues to generate concern, as well as the President’s handling of a Russian spy scandal that broke in 2010 and that may have been tied to passage of the New START nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia. Critics say the treaty damaged America’s strategic interests.

One of the spy scandal documents said Moscow wanted its agents to obtain information from sources “close to State Department, government, major think tanks.” The Russians were interested in sources “who are in, or able to infiltrate, United States policy-making circles,” and one of the Russian agents “met with an employee of the U.S. Government with regard to nuclear weapons research.”

But because the Russian spies were quickly sent home, in a development that prevented the high-level nature of the scandal from being examined publicly, the American people were never able to find out how high up in the Obama Administration it went.

Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona said:

“We know the President cancelled plans to station an anti-ballistic missile system in Poland and the Czech Republic. We know the President supported language in the New START Treaty to link missile defense to nuclear reductions. We know the administration is sharing information with Russia, including plans to deploy missile defenses in Europe. We know the President has significantly reduced funding and curtailed development of the U.S. national missile defense system, undermining our ability to effectively intercept long-range ballistic missiles. And we know the President has doubled-down on efforts to reduce our nuclear arsenal while failing to honor his promises to modernize the aging nuclear weapons complex.

“But what we don’t know is what President Obama has in mind for after the election, when he would gain some ‘flexibility’ in negotiating with the Russians. Perhaps the Russians, in whom President Obama recently confided, could shed some light on his missile defense plans for the American people who otherwise have been left in the dark by this President.”

Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma has cited Obama’s statements to Medvedev in a warning about the direction Obama is taking the country.

“Our nuclear arsenal is as much about deterrence as it is about strike capability,” said Inhofe. “Under the New START deliberations, Congress was assured by President Obama that our remaining nuclear assets would continue to be modernized. Based on the cuts and delays to our nuclear arsenal and facilities in his Fiscal Year 2013 budget, President Obama is once again going back on his word.”

Inhofe added, “Another key concern is the reduction of our assets below the New START approved level of 1550. It seems that President Obama is looking at unilateral reductions even further below the agreed upon limits under the treaty. I remember back in 2008 when Secretary Gates said that we must maintain some level of these weapons ourselves to deter potential adversaries and to reassure over 30 allies and partners who rely on our nuclear umbrella for their security.”

Obama dismissed the controversy and claimed he wasn’t hiding anything. “I’m on record,” he said. “I want to see us over time gradually, systematically reduce reliance on nuclear weapons.”

After he was already elected president, The New York Times wrote about how Obama, when he was in college, had written the article, “Breaking the War Mentality,” about his involvement in the anti-nuclear cause on the campus of Columbia University. The article attacked the “military-industrial interests” with their “billion-dollar erector sets” and agitated for a nuclear-free world. The Times noted that Obama “explored going further” than the so-called nuclear freeze movement, an effort on some U.S. campuses that was backed by the Soviet Union and designed to defeat President Reagan’s defense build-up in the 1980s.

WALL STREET JOURNAL: GBTV ALREADY HAS MORE SUBSCRIBERS THAN OPRAH’S NETWORK HAS VIEWERS

Many people thought Glenn Beck might have been a little bit crazy (little bit?) to leave the safety and support of traditional cable television to launch his internet-based GBTV enterprise.  But the news from the Wall Street Journal today may cause even the critics some pause.

Beck’s GBTV broadcast will launch at 5PM ET this afternoon, complete with an all-new chalkboard!

Video: Say Hello to My Little Friend

The complete Wall Street Journal article, well worth reading, is restricted to subscribers, but here is one nugget :

Because Mr. Beck owns the show and the network, he could make substantially more than the $2.5 million salary he got each year at Fox. GBTV is on track to take in more than $20 million in revenue in its debut year, according to a person close to the company.

The television industry will be watching closely to see whether the TV host can preserve his popularity while migrating to the Web, where efforts to get consumers to pay to watch online-only channels are just beginning.

When Mr. Beck announced GBTV in June, the network had 80,000 subscribers. In the months since, GBTV subscribers have swelled to more than 230,000, according to people close to the network, even though Mr. Beck‘s show hasn’t yet begun.

The audience is far less than the more than 2.2 million daily viewers his program on Fox drew, on average, over its 27-month run, which ended in June after clashes with the network’s management.

But it is more than the average 156,000 people who were watching the Oprah Winfrey Network in June.

One writer at Forbes has looked at the numbers and done a little extrapolation:

Analyst Rich Greenfield of BTIG Research estimates that GBTV is already generating revenues of $27 million a year from subscription fees by monetizing a mere 1 percent of the total audience for his Fox show, his radio show, his websites (glennbeck.com and theblaze.com) and other outlets. Greenfield envisions Beck increasing that conversion rate to 5 percent, yielding a subscriber base of over 1 million. In that scenario, extrapolating from Greenfield’s current run rate estimate of $27 million, GBTV would be generating $135 million in subscription revenues.

The Forbes writer, Jeff Bercovici, acknowledges that those estimates might be optimistic.  But he posits that Beck is on course to the $100 million dollar earnings barrier “sooner than later” when you consider all of his media endeavors.

Deadline New York is running with a headline reading, “Analyst: Media Execs ‘Should Be Very Afraid’ of Glenn Beck’s Web TV Launch.”

Mediate looks at it this way:

While Beck’s online venture is still relatively new, it’ll continue to be interesting to observe the different trajectories GBTV and OWN take as they forge their way. Here are two networks, albeit on different platforms, begun by two individuals who are themselves highly recognizable mega-brands. One is gradually building an audience as another is still hoping to find its place on television, and both depend highly on the trust viewers place on their respective founding personalities. Could you imagine what an episode devoted to Beck’s “favorite things” might pan out? Sales of chalk could go through the roof.

Pastor Defends Support for Glenn Beck (2,000 ministers attend rally)

Glenn Beck:  Who Is He?

Glenn is fairly quiet and very protective of his family, for good reason, and is always surrounded by a security detail.  Although he does kid about his wife, Tania who he credits with saving his life, a bit on air and on stage and proudly mentions his kids now and then.  Unfortunately in today’s world you can find out at least the basics on just about everybody, including Beck, even if they preferred that you couldn’t.  Beck loves his children dearly and they are obviously, at least in part, the inspiration for his passion.  But other than the protectiveness of his family, Beck is pretty much an open book.  (There is a great story that Bill Schultz from Fox’s Redeye tells about stepping off the elevator on the 18th Floor when Beck’s show was up there.  He has you rolling in the aisle in minutes as he explains how Beck’s security team questioned what he was doing up there…  If you know who Bill Schultz is, its probably even funnier!).

His Executive Summary lists him as a conservative TV and talk radio host.  His fans would call him a friend and describe him as quick-witted, well-informed, an independent thinker, a good Christian (raised Roman Catholic and now a Mormon or LDS) and someone who cares deeply. Glenn grew up in Mount Vernon, Washington, suffers from Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), so his shows are always fast-paced.  And his staff will you that he is hard to keep up with.  His friend and Fox associate Bill O’Reilly has asked him more than once, on air, whether he ever sleeps.  Beck and O’Reilly did a series of successful live shows around the country together to mostly sold out houses.  Sarah Palin has called him "America's professor of common sense". He is a Mormon with self-described libertarian leanings, big on conservative politics and traditional family values.

Beck is a recovering alcoholic and drug user who still has back pain from an injury incurred when, intoxicated or high, he tumbled through a window.  This past year, or so, Glenn has suffered from eye problems and has been diagnosed with macular dystrophy, that he announced at his American Revival event.  He is a self-made man, who has hit rock bottom and picked himself up to reach sky, someone who most average people can relate to in one way or another.

So before moving on to the updated portion below, I guess my greatest question to put out there is: “Why?”  Why do so many people both fear and hate Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and a list of other conservatives without really knowing much about them, what they stand for or even why they think they don’t like them?!?

The answer… the propaganda they have been fed by the mainstream media (MSM), Hollywood and the left in general. Most people, unless they subscribe to the far left ideology of the powers that be, both in our government and the media right now, they quickly find out if they do a little research and reading that what they’ve been told generally isn’t true and that they can actually relate to, agree with and even like Beck, Palin, the tea party, etc. and the principles they believe in to help save our Republic, freedom and our values.

Beck did his best to give us the Big Picture from his perspective, to inspire us (like with his trip to Wilmington Ohio) and then he encouraged us to educate ourselves and to question everything and everyone, including him.  So, what is there in that to makes people hate and attack someone… and their family… other than the fear that he was/is right?

Updated… 07.09.11

Glenn Beck said goodbye to the Fox News Channel and his hit show on Thursday, airing his final show before going into business for himself. He told his fans that he was determined "to his last breath" to fix this country and fight for freedom.

He followed that final Fox show with an immediate show for subscribers to his new Network: GBTV, where he will begin streaming a daily 2-hour show on the Internet on September 12, 2011.  Beck’s own two hour Internet show is only a small part of the overall GBTV plan, much of which is still to be announced.  Beck was interviewed by Raj Nair, out of San Diego, who he just hired the week before.

At the GBTV interview, Raj asked Beck a series of questions sent in by viewers.   He was then asked about GBTV and some of his other new ventures and how he can keep his ego in check. He said the purpose of all his new projects was to help others attain freedom and a positive world vision.  “I don’t want it to be about me,” he said. “That was the vehicle that got us where we are to be able to do the things that we have to do. I don’t want it to be about me.”

Beck urged his critics not to underestimate him as he moves forward. "You will pray for the time when I was only on the air for one hour a day," he said more than once.

Although the left and the MSM kept trying to feed everyone that Beck’s ratings were down, he continued to lead in his timeslot to the very end. Glenn Beck Averaged 2.175 Million in his Final Show  Cable News Ratings for Thursday, June 30, 2011  -  Glenn Beck averaged 2.175 million viewers (542,000 adults 25-54) in his final episode. While up from recent history, far off his highs when he cleared 3 million viewers. Still, Beck was second on Fox News to only The O’Reilly Factor for the night (2.54 million viewers, 559,000 A25-54).  As Beck said himself on that final show, “I'm the only host who is supposedly the most dangerous person in America because of my influence and the least influential person in America because my ratings are supposedly declining.”  During his peak, Beck’s show averaged 2.9 million viewers each day at 5 p.m. ET and 2 p.m. PT Many people watched Beck online, which couldn’t be counted in the ratings but increased as time went on and no doubt affected those ratings at least somewhat.

It was reported that Beck's relationship with Fox soured over control issues in the final months, and both sides seemed happy his show was ending.  What the real story was, we will probably never know. But Beck warmly thanked Fox News chief Roger Ailes during his last show, saying he was the smartest man he'll ever work with, a partnership put together on a handshake we are told.  Beck, his advertisers and Fox have been under attack by the left since Glenn has been on air.  And just 2 weeks after Beck left Fox, there has been a discovery that White House E-mails Show Anti-Fox Bias and the leftist (Soros group inspired) anti-Beck bias and campaigns have surfaced and been obvious to anyone paying attention!

Beck’s finale was vintage Beck, a continuous monologue while walking among his signature chalkboards and old props. He took some shots at critics, inspired and promised fealty to his fans, came close to tears but didn't succumb and even poked some fun at his image.

He chided frequent critic Jon Stewart of Comedy Central.  Beck showed a picture of Stewart's large writing staff and brought out his lone two writers as a comparison.

He threw in a causal told-you-so: "Two years ago we said there were going to be problems in Greece. Nobody paid attention."

"We tried to teach you things to help," he said. "I'm a dad, too. I want my country to be around. What we have been trying to tell you lately, over the last year, is that you are the answer. We must have faith, hope and charity in our hearts."

Beck said he was going to Israel this summer "in search of courage" and no doubt to inspire some. Beck stands strong In Defense of Israel

He and his family and part of the Mercury Radio Arts staff headed to Driggs, Idaho at Huntsman Springs (Jon Huntsman Sr. is Beck’s good friend and mentor) for a mini-4th of July vacation and event, after which he was headed to Poland and then to Israel.

Glenn was in Poland filming part of an upcoming documentary and has some incredibly moving — and horrific — pictures and stories to share including being inside a Nazi Germany picture.

His Israel event. Restoring Courage, is a follow-up to last year’s Restoring Honor event in D.C.  And beginning Monday 7.11.11 he is doing his radio show from there. (1st Hour: Here)

Glenn is also slated to speak at the Christians United for Israel summit in Washington, D.C.Tuesday night 07.19.11  (Added 7.20.11:  Beck’s keynote speech was amazing.  He boldly stated, If the world goes down the road of dehumanizing Jews again, “then count me a Jew and come for me first.”  See: ‘COUNT ME A JEW AND COME FOR ME FIRST’ VIDEO OF BECK’S MOVING KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT THE CHRISTIANS UNITED FOR ISRAEL SUMMIT.  Beck has also had to change the location of one of his Israel Events because of security reasons.)

huntsman-springs.jpg

glenn-close-up.jpg

He tried to explain why he was leaving Fox after 29 months, and showed a picture of Jack Paar, who unexpectedly left NBC's "Tonight Show” after being on the air for six years. He said he wanted to be more than a commentator and that he was not running away from anything. "I'm running to something," Glenn said, “before I lose my soul!”

"This show has become a movement," he said. "It's not a TV show and that's why it does not belong on television anymore. It belongs in your heart. It belongs in your neighborhood."  It belongs in the heart of patriotic Americans will to link arms and stand together for the Republic.

Glenn’s focus is on doing good, saving the Republic… saving freedom… saving the world and helping people one person at a time, one town at a time, one state at a time, one country at a time.  GBTV is a platform for everyone to connect and connect their ideas.  He signed off with his signature phrase… Good Night, America!

Beck later told an Internet audience on GBTV that he had hired a "community organizer" on Thursday to help pull together citizens who agree with his point of view.

As Fox and Beck headed for their divorce, Beck set up his own diversified business. He makes speeches, writes books (both fiction and non-fiction and a children’s book), has a daily radio show and owns the website, the Blaze, along with GBTV , which is run by a former Fox executive. He has also started an non-profit venture called “Mercury One”. Beck will sell access to GBTV for $9.95 a month, or $4.95 for those who only want to see his nightly show. GBTV promises to be much more than a TV platform on the Internet, but rather ‘the network for the tomorrow, a day early’.

Beck sold his home in Connecticut and has just leased a home in the Westlake area of Dallas, owned by baseball player Jorge Piedra and Swarovski heiress Vanessa Piedra.  He also had to give up his apartment in New York, provided by Fox News.  But he is thought to still own an apartment in Manhattan, at least the one for his daughter.  He talked about helping his daughter look for a NYC apartment on one of his last shows.  Mercury Radio Arts, his production company, will remain in New York, at least for now, meaning he could be back and forth often.  Beck has also mentioned building a studio in Dallas and ‘perhaps’ other places.  What and where all Beck is up and off to is yet a mystery… perhaps in part even to himself.

Grand: Beck is thought to be moving his family into the seven-bedroom mansion which is owned by baseball player Jorge Piedra and Swarovski heiress Vanessa Piedra

Fox launched a summertime replacement series for the Glenn Beck Show, “The Five”, after a couple weeks of the ‘Best of Beck’ re-runs, which were preempted a couple of days by the Casey Anthony trial verdict and sentencing circus, a distraction that Beck would not have focused on.  The week after Beck left Fox, the news was also filled with scandal involving the Murdoch Empire and a phone hacking scandal in Britain while here at home Fox took on Media Matters, financed by Beck’s old nemeses George Soros.  “The Five” will include a rotating crew of Fox personalities like Andrew Napolitano, Andrea Tanteros, Geraldo Rivera, Juan Williams, Monica Crowley, Greg Gutfeld, Eric Bolling, Dana Perino and Kimberly Guilfoyle debating issues of the day. (I’ve watched the first few shows and they aren’t bad, but they aren’t Beck!) As his fans say, it will take 5 people to replace Beck and his show and it still certainly won’t be the same! Whether Fox realizes or admits it yet or not, they will grow to miss him and his ratings!

Beck said more than once in the last weeks and months of his show that he needed to get involved… hands on involved and he has!!

One Last Time: Goodnight, America…

fox1

Yesterday Glenn Beck and his audience began a new chapter.  His life at Fox and on mainstream TV ended as he exited the stage of his Fox News set for the last time with one last “From New York, Goodnight, America”.

TV Newser:

The final broadcast of “The Glenn Beck Show” was a little bit of everything: a look back, a glimpse into the future and a frank assessment of the reasons behind Beck’s Fox News Channel departure.

Beck, who ad-libbed much of his last hour as an FNC host, spoke candidly about the decision to launch a web-based TV channel, saying he hoped he had earned viewers’ trust on “The Glenn Beck Show.” “Anyone watching this show knows that I have bent this format so far out of its structure, out of its parameters,” Beck said. “This is a news channel. I do commentary.”

“This show has become a movement,” he said. “It’s not a TV show. And that’s why it doesn’t belong on television. It belongs in your homes, it belongs in your neighborhoods.” Read full story at the Blaze

BREAKING NEWS; Time to End the Rumors: - Glenn Beck on FNC to End; 'New Agreement'

To be clear, Glenn Beck is NOT being FORCED off the air. Glenn is going to “transition off of his daily TV program” later this year, according to a press release.
Apparently, Glenn is simply changing the nature of his relationship with FNC; I would imagine he is going to do more than a single TV show. I am not worried that Glenn Beck is going to leave FNC or stop doing what he's doing, but I"ll be profoundly sad to see his excellent TV show go. It has done more to help restore America than ANY OTHER TV SHOW in Fox News' history!  Jared

There will be a couple of key headlines out of this…yes, there is a new agreement with Fox News but this is the first confirmation that Beck will “transition off of his daily TV program” later this year.

(New York, NY) Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts, Glenn Beck’s production company, are proud to announce that they will work together to develop and produce a variety of television projects for air on the Fox News Channel as well as content for other platforms including Fox News’ digital properties. Glenn intends to transition off of his daily program, the third highest rated in all of cable news, later this year.

Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of Fox News said, “Glenn Beck is a powerful communicator, a creative entrepreneur and a true success by anybody’s standards. I look forward to continuing to work with him.” Glenn Beck said: “I truly believe that America owes a lot to Roger Ailes and Fox News.
