Just When You Wonder If There Is Any Hope…

Student Wins Fight for Pledge at School

Students at Massachusetts high schools in Arlington can rejoice -- they'll be allowed to recite the Pledge of Allegiance this fall.
Nearly two months after deadlocking on a proposal by senior Sean Harrington, the Arlington Public School Committee unanimously approved a new pledge policy on Tuesday night that allows principals at each school to determine how the pledge will be recited each day.

"Yes, the policy has been changed," Arlington High School Principal Charles Skidmore told FoxNews.com in an email. "All principals in the district must ensure that the Pledge of Allegiance is said every school day in all classrooms."

In June, Harrington appeared to have won his fight to bring the Pledge of Allegiance back into Arlington High School, but Skidmore, offered to allow students to recite the pledge before school begins and in the school's foyer instead of inside the classrooms, as 17-year-old Harrington had hoped.

Skidmore now says he's pleased with the new policy and especially the process that led up to it.

"As a result of the controversy, I heard from many people both across the country and in our community who wanted the Pledge restored to our school. That’s all I was ever looking for on this issue -- widespread community buy-in so that students would feel that they wanted to say the Pledge, not just that they had to," he said.

No student, teacher or administrator will be required to participate in a recitation, an Arlington High School official confirmed to FoxNews.com.

Harrington presented school officials with a petition signed by 700 people, along with letters of support from lawmakers including Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., and Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn. But the request to have the pledge recited failed when the committee's vote ended in a 3-3 tie.

"I was really heartbroken," Harrington told Fox News Radio in June. "It's hard to think that something so traditional in American society was turned down."

Harrington, who could not be immediately reached for comment on Wednesday, said months ago that he did not intend to stop pushing for the Pledge of Allegiance until it was allowed in his classrooms.

"I'm not a person who quits and I don't back down," Harrington said. "It's a very righteous cause and needs to be followed through until the end."

DISCHARGE PETITION

Hi, all… I just received this from the Chairman of the Laredo Tea Party Patriots:

I have been made aware of a Discharge Petition made available by Congressman Steve King To the Representatives in the House for adoption to, in effect, Discharge the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" or ObamaCare.

What is the Discharge Petition?

To understand what a Discharge Petition is, we have to understand the bill process.  This is how a bill is considered.  The bill under consideration goes to the Speaker of the House, who will then assign the bill to the appropriate committee.  If the Speaker does not want the bill to ever come to a vote before the full House of Representatives, the bill “dies” in committee.

The Discharge Petition circumvents what the Speaker wants.  The discharge petition, if signed by at least 218 Members of the House of Representatives, causes the bill to be “discharged” from the committee of jurisdiction for consideration and a vote by the full House.

This CONSTITUTIONAL mechanism has been used in our nation’s history.  We have attached a link from Wikipedia for more information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discharge_petition.

How can it be used to repeal the recently passed health care law?

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) recently filed a discharge petition – Discharge Petition No. 11 - a special measure that would require the U.S. House of Representatives to vote to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  If this discharge petition gets the needed 218 signatures, the bill will bypass the Speaker so the bill to repeal will go straight to the full house to vote.

I, Chris Bowling, Chairman, have taken up the responsibility on your behalf to send the Request for Congressman Cuellar to sign the petition and Candidate Bryan Underwood to sign the Pledge to sign the Petition if elected. These two documents are attached in this email.

This letter follows the petition and pledged that is mailed to the above stated individuals,

We, the People of Texas, both citizens and voters, demand that our elected representatives add their name to Discharge Petition No. 11 and that they urge their fellow Members of the United States House of Representatives to do the same and then hold a straight up-or-down vote in both the House and the Senate to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

We, the People of Texas, demand that our Congressmen do what is right in accordance with the Constitution and what is right for the American People and repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in its entirety.

We, the People of Texas, will hold our elected officials who choose NOT to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act accountable on Election Day, November 2, 2010.

You are free to do with this information that you will.

Thank You and God Bless

We Stand With and For God!!

Civil Disobedience (featuring Dr. Timothy George)

What about civil disobedience?  Do we submit to unjust laws?  Do we submit to abuse?  Do we defend, or turn our backs on the constitution?  Do we turn our backs on the Country that God inspired and watched over… until we turned out backs on him?

God and the Constitution come first, but being a person of faith does not mean you have to be a doormat.  Being a Christian (or a Jew or anything else) does not mean you cannot stand up for yourself, your family, God and America. But let them throw all the punches.
