President Obama's "green jobs" adviser could become a mounting liability for the Obama administration, as the latest revelation about Van Jones shows his apparent belief that the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks may have been an inside job.

Jones joined the "9/11 truther" movement by signing a statement in 2004 calling for then-New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and others to launch an investigation into evidence that suggests "people within the current administration may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war."

The statement asked a series of critical questions hinting at Bush administration involvement in the attacks and called for "deeper inquiry." It was also signed by former Rep. Cynthia McKinney and Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans.

But on Thursday, Jones tried to distance himself from the position, saying "In recent days some in the news media have reported on past statements I made before I joined the administration – some of which were made years ago. If I have offended anyone with statements I made in the past, I apologize. As for the petition [9/11 statement] that was circulated today, I do not agree with this statement and it certainly does not reflect my views now or ever." Read more ...

A Truther Czar?... Obama's Green Czar Van Jones Believes Bush Administration Was Behind 9-11

He believes the Bush Administration was behind 9-11 and signed the official 9-11 Truth Document demanding a further investigation.

Respected Leaders and Families Launch 9/11 Truth Statement Demanding Deeper Investigation into the Events of 9/11

NEW YORK CITY, NY (Oct. 26, 2004) – An alliance of 100 prominent Americans and 40 family members of those killed on 9/11 today announced the release of the 911 Truth Statement, a call for immediate inquiry into evidence that suggests high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur. The Statement supports an August 31st Zogby poll that found nearly 50% of New Yorkers believe the government had foreknowledge and "consciously failed to act," with 66% wanting a new 9/11 investigation.

Focusing on twelve questions, the Statement highlights areas of incriminating evidence that were either inadequately explored or ignored by the Kean Commission, ranging from insider trading and hijacker funding to foreign government forewarnings and inactive defenses around the Pentagon. The Statement asks for four actions: an immediate investigation by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, Congressional hearings, media analysis, and the formation of a truly independent citizens-based inquiry.

The Statement's list of signatories includes notables spanning the political spectrum, from Presidential candidates Ralph Nader, Michael Badnarik, and David Cobb to Catherine Austin Fitts, a member of the first Bush administration, as well as Washington veterans like Pentagon whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg and retired CIA analyst Ray McGovern. Other signers range from peace activists like Code Pink president Jodie Evans and Global Exchange's Kevin Danaher to former US Ambassador and Chief of Mission to Iraq, Edward L. Peck; from environmentalists like Randy Hayes and John Robbins to business leaders such as Paul Hawken and Karl Schwartz, CEO of Patmos Nanotechnologies; from populist journalist Ronnie Dugger to renowned investigative reporter Kelly Patricia O'Meara.

The Statement also includes 43 noted authors, including New York Times #1 bestseller John Gray, as well as 18 eminent professors, historians, and theologians. Other notables include five-term Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, singers Michelle Shocked and Michael Franti, and actors Ed Asner and Mimi Kennedy.

UPDATE: Here's another tidbit from Photosynthesis-- Apparently, Van Jones believes hip-hop holds the key to social change:

The fact that an event like Constant Elevation happened is proof that money is starting to move in the right direction. As Van Jones of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights said, "This event makes it clear that the path of social change needs to go through youth culture, and therefore it needs to go through hip-hop. Once hip-hop becomes central to social change, the entire game will be changed."

I’ve been trying to come up with a joke all morning about what sort of leftist lunatic might be next on O’s hiring list, but I simply can’t top “Truther communist.” Congratulations, Barry: You’re now parody-proof... Exit question: Will Jones be gone before today’s airing of “Glenn Beck”? If so, what does it say about Obama that evidently communists are fit to be czars but Truther communists are a bridge too far?

I, for one, will be taping Glenn Beck for the rest of the week.

This information was picked up by the Daily Standard from the blog Gateway Pundit over 6-hours ago and Van Jones is still part of Obama’s team. By any normal imaginable standards Van Jones should have been fired hours ago. But these are not normal times. The questions are:

• Did Obama know that Jones was a 9/11 Truther?
• Why hasn’t Van Jones been fired?
• How did the FBI miss this in their security check plus several other major problems in Van’s background?
• Was Van Jones not checked out by the FBI?
• If Obama did know, added to a list of other radicals, what is his true agenda?
• How much longer are the American people going to put up with this unchecked czar circus?
