Are We Going to Let the Republic Die on Our Watch?

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” …Ronald Reagan

Each of us must not only vote on November 2nd, but we must all be vigilant so that we are not the generation that loses the Republic!

We are definitely standing at a crossroads… and the voter fraud is already rampant for election 2012!

Faulty Nevada voting machines to be repaired—by SEIU

Nevada Voting Machines Automatically Checking Harry Reid’s Name; Voting Machine Technicians are SEIU Members

Clark County, home to the city of Las Vegas and three quarters of Nevada's population, is also home to a tight Senate race for the first time in Majority Leader Harry Reid’s 23 years in that chamber. Today’s Real Clear Politics average shows Reid trailing Republican challenger Sharron Angle, if by a slender 1-point lead.

Reid’s chances of winning reelection have been vastly improved, early voters are complaining, by voting machines that automatically check Harry Reid's name on the ballot.

Claims that the machines are rigged have been challenged by Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax, who insists there is no voter fraud and that the problem is with the touch screens, which are hypersensitive. So sensitive, one imagines, that the name Harry Reid is automatically checked off by the ether.

But not to worry. Lomax has called in the infantry to repair the faulty machines. And who do you call when voting machines are acting up and an important election is at stake? Clark County’s answer is not ghost busters but members of the Service Employees International Union, or SEIU.

That’s the same SEIU that spent $63 million in elections in 2008 and plans on spending another $44 million in this election cycle—almost every penny of it going toward Democratic candidates. It’s the same SEIU whose former president, self-avowed Marxist Andy Stern, was the most frequent visitor to the White House last year. It’s the same SEIU whose former top lobbyist, Patrick Gaspard, is now White House political director. (What was that candidate Barack Obama said about lobbyists working in his White House? Oh, never mind.)

In Nevada, SEIU gave $500,000 to the Patriot Majority PAC, which has spent $1.3 million against Reid's opponent Sharron Angle. The union has dug deep into its pockets to defeat Angle (a campaign on which they’ve spent $225,000) and to elect Dina Titus, running for a seat in Nevada’s third Congressional district (a combined half million dollars in support of Titus and in opposition to her Republican opponent).

This is not to say categorically that the fix is in, but the snafu does raise questions. At present, the state Senate race is a statistical dead heat. Should Angle’s lead increase dramatically over the next 6 days and should she end up losing, one hopes the president will demand an investigation into possible improprieties.

LEWISTON, Idaho (The Blaze/AP) — An Idaho family that operates a roadside pumpkin stand is scared out of its gourd after a state tax collector showed up and tried to squash the business.

The Lewiston Tribune reports the Idaho State Tax Commission has called for the closure of a family’s pumpkin stand in Lewiston, a mill city along the Snake and Clearwater rivers.

Dan and Kami Charais told the newspaper that a Tax Commission employee informed them the stand was in violation of laws and had to shut its doors.

The couple says their 4- and 6-year-old children had been carving out a niche for themselves in the local jack-o-lantern market — to raise money for school sports, they say.

A Tax Commission representative told the newspaper that even goods sold at roadside stands are taxable and that the stand did not have a proper permit.

A similar event occurred in Portland, OR in August. 7-year-old Julie Murphy’s Lemonade stand was shut down by food inspectors at a local art fair for also lacking proper permits. The county later apologized.

How can Americans create private sector jobs?

The solution to America's jobs problem lies not with budget-busting federally mandated "stimulus" programs.

Instead, what is needed are specific reforms that wouldn't cost taxpayers, would create a broader tax base for cash-strapped cities and states, and would provide opportunity for millions of Americans who worry where their next paycheck is coming from.

As demonstrated by a series of eight new reports issued in October 2010 by the Virginia-based Institute for Justice, one of the principal obstacles to creating new jobs and entrepreneurial activity in cities across the country is the complex maze of regulations cities and states impose on small businesses. IJ's "city study" reports are filled with real-world examples of specific restrictions that often make it impossible for entrepreneurs to create jobs for themselves, let alone for others.

Chip Mellor, the president and general counsel of the Institute for Justice, said, "If the nation is looking to the federal government to create jobs in America, it is looking in the wrong place. If we want to grow our economy, we must remove government-imposed barriers to honest enterprise at the city and state levels. Remove those barriers, and you will see a return to the optimism and opportunity that are hallmarks of the American Dream."

IJ's eight reports document how irrational and anti-competitive regulations block entrepreneurship. More often than not, these government-imposed restrictions on economic liberty are put in place at the behest of existing businesses that are not shy about using government force to keep out competition. The Institute for Justice's city studies examine regulations imposed on a wide range of occupations in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, Newark, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Since 2006, Democrats in the House and Senate have had their chance to show what they are made of, what they stand for. Do they represent you? Think about it.
