Michigan freshman Democratic Congressman Hansen Clarke has openly aligned himself with the Detroit local of the US’ largest Marxist organization Democratic Socialists of America.

Reaffirming a relationship that began several years ago, Congressman Clarke personally presented awards at Greater Detroit DSA’s 12th annual Frederick Douglass-Eugene V. Debs Dinner on October 1st at UAW Local 600 in Dearborn Michigan.

Clarke presented Congressional citations to far leftist, the Reverend Ed Rowe and to the Restaurant Opportunities Center-Michigan.

Other speakers included an event regular, Metropolitan Detroit AFL-CIO President Saundra Williams and newly appointed DSA National Director Maria Svart.

Hansen Clarke’s relationship with DSA goes back to at least 2002.

In that year, Greater Detroit Democratic Socialists of America contributed to the primary campaign of  Hansen Clarke, who ran against incumbent State Senator Ray Murphy in the first district. The local did some early fundraising and conducted a postcard campaign on Clarke’s behalf to its members in the first senate district. Hansen  Clarke achieved an upset victory, winning comfortably by thirteen points.

Greater Detroit DSA boasts a “simple but effective electoral strategy.”

We endorse progressive candidates in competitive races where the focused efforts of a small group such as ours can tip the balance in favor of the progressive candidate. This strategy has served us well in electing state representatives such as Steve Bieda, Alma Wheeler Smith, John Espinoza, Aldo Vagnozzi, and Fred Miller, and state senators such as Gilda Jacobs and Hansen Clarke.

Hansen Clarke has also enjoyed a strong relationship with the pro-Cuban and North Korean Workers World Party. In 2008, Rev. Ed Rowe and Clarke worked with ACORN and other radicals on the WWP’s anti-eviction campaign.

Clarke is also affiliated with Detroit’s Maurice & Jane Sugar Law Center for Economic & Social Justice – named after the late pro-communist labor lawyer Maurice Sugar, and affiliated with the Communist Party USA founded National Lawyers Guild.

On November 18, 2010, the Maurice & Jane Sugar Law Center presented “The Maurice Sugar Voice for Justice Award” to former Obama “Green Jobs Czar” Van Jones, “a Human Rights Activist and Green-Jobs Advocate,” at the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, 660 Woodward Ave.

Members of the Honorary Host Committee included Hansen Clarke, David Elsila, Retired Editor, UAW Solidarity Magazine and a DSA member, Bob King, President, UAW International Vice President and a DSA supporter, Claudia Morcom, Retired Wayne County Circuit Court Judge and a DSA and Communist Party affiliate, Hasan Newash, Palestine Office of Michigan, and a Communist Party affiliate, Saundra Williams, President, Metro Detroit AFL-CIO and a DSA affiliate, and the Hon. JoAnn Watson, Detroit City Council and a long time Workers World Party affiliate.

The half black, half Bangladeshi Hansen Clarke, has been described as Detroit’s answer to Barack Obama.

The freshman Congressman from Michigan and the US President certainly share similar political roots and affiliations.

† Living In These Mad, Mad, Madoff Times: Birth rates in 48 states and the District of Columbia fell sharply during the recession, according to a report by the Pew Research Center. The New York Times reports:

According to preliminary data from 2010, the rates dropped to 64.7 births per thousand women ages 15 to 44, from 69.6 births per thousand women in 2007, the year the recession began. …

The link between financial distress and lower rates of childbirth surfaced clearly in the regional data. North Dakota, with one of the lowest unemployment rates in 2008, about 3 percent, was one of two states to show a slight increase in its birth rate from 2008 to 2009. The other was Maine.

In all other states, birth rates declined, said Gretchen Livingston, the lead author of the report. Arizona had the deepest decline in its birth rate, down by 7.2 percent.

“What people seem to be doing is not so much deciding not to have children, but postponing until things start to recover,” she said.

What isn’t dropping is birth rates of illegals and illegals coming into America to give birth plus the birth rates of Muslims in the U.S.

While the citizens of Western civilizations have been preoccupied with their own selfish interests, those of the Islamic world have been busy populating a world their children and grandchildren will control. In America, Canada, and Europe, the citizens have been limiting the number of children in their families. Personally, I believe the reasons they chose to limit the number of their offspring are purely selfish. Women want to have a career, and that is difficult to do if they are having children every 2 or 3 years. † Obama Creating Green Jobs That Americans Won’t Do: Believe it or not, Solyndra is small peanuts – at least compared to SunPower, another failed taxpayer-funded “green energy” company that was touted by Interior Secretary Kenneth L. Salazar in October 2010 (“The path to a clean energy economy starts here, in places like SunPower’s research and development facility.”). In a well-researched article, Human Events describes how the “failing California solar company, buffeted by short sellers and shareholder lawsuits” was able to snag a $1.2 billion federal loan guarantee “for a photovoltaic electricity ranch project – three weeks after it announced it was building new manufacturing plant in Mexicali, Mexico, to build the panels for the project.” When all is said and done, there will be just 15 permanent jobs for U.S. workers – at a cost to taxpayers of $80 million each – which is “a little high, even for the current Obama administration,” Human Events notes.

If there is a bright side to this mess, it’s that Solyndra’s meltdown may have pulled the plug on $6.5 billion in government loan guarantees that had been granted "conditional" approval but “suddenly disappeared from [the Department of Energy’s] roster.” The Wall Street Journal reports an interesting twist to the $1.9 billion in taxpayer largess slated to be awarded to CA solar-panel farm First Solar:

In August the company posted a 62% drop in second-quarter income, and its stock, which traded at $170 in February, is now $57 a share.

Energy did move ahead with two separate conditional loan guarantees for First Solar, though at reduced amounts – $646 million (rather than $680 million) for a solar farm in Lancaster, California, and $1.5 billion (rather than $1.8 billion) for a farm in Riverside County. The approvals came as First Solar announced it had sold the Lancaster farm to utility giant Exelon and the second to General Electric and NextEra Energy Resources. So taxpayers are now underwriting solar subsidies not for start-ups but for the biggest of big business.

As it happens, GE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt is a close personal friend of President Barack Hussein Obama’s and is also chairman of the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Clearly, the aim is to ensure that investors in green energy companies that tank will recover their capital, not creating “green jobs of the future.”

A new report by the Labor Department's Office of Inspector General found that a $500 million stimulus grant to a program that trained 53,000 workers for “green jobs” graduated 1,033 who remained employed for at least six months – but that many of these positions already existed and had been “relabeled” as green jobs. “Bus drivers, Environmental Protection Agency regulators, university professors teaching ecology, and even the Washington lobbyists who secure energy loan guarantees count as green employees for the purposes of government counting,” The Wall Street Journal reports.

So the “green economy” is not only a scam, it’s also a sham.

† Prediction: Christians Will Be “Extinct” In The Holy Land Within 60 Years:The Washington Times notes that the Obama administration “has been obsessed with Muslim outreach,” but has turned its back on oppressed Christians in the Middle East:

The United States has been wary to intervene in matters affecting Christians in the Middle East for fear of validating terrorist narratives that the West is engaged in a new crusade against Islam. The result of this passive policy has been to allow Islamic extremists increasingly to dominate the debate, often with tragic consequences.

On Sunday in Egypt, a clash between Coptic Christians and the military left at least 25 dead. Copts are the largest religious minority in Egypt, representing about 10 percent of the population. Attacks on the Copts have increased since former President Hosni Mubarak's ouster. That the military was involved in this incident was a signal that matters are taking a turn for the worse. The White House issued a lukewarm condemnation noting that President Obama is "deeply concerned about the violence in Egypt" and that "as the Egyptian people shape their future, the United States continues to believe that the rights of minorities – including Copts – must be respected." In other words, the U.S. government will do nothing about the massacre of Christians.

† Restorative Capital Punishment: A New Haven Superior Court jury convicted Joshua Komisarjevsky of all 17 charges against him, including capital felony killing, kidnapping and sexual assault (related article, sixth item on the page), The Associated Press reports:

Komisarjevsky's co-defendant, Steven Hayes, was sentenced to death last year after he was convicted of raping and strangling Jennifer Hawke-Petit and killing her daughters, 11-year-old Michaela and 17-year-old Hayley, who died of smoke inhalation.

The only survivor of the attack, Dr. William Petit, bit his lip and closed his eyes as the verdict was read.

"I thought from the beginning that he was a lying sociopathic personality and probably at this moment he doesn't think he is guilty of anything," he told reporters outside the courthouse.

The penalty phase, during which the jury will decide whether Komisarjevsky, 31, should be executed or sentenced to life in prison, is scheduled for October 24^th.

† A To Z Approach On Illegal Immigration In AZ: The Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta further whittled down the provisions of AL’s new anti-illegal immigration law that the state could enforce while it considers the Justice Department's request to strike it down altogether (related article, eighth item on the page), FOX News reports:

Alabama cannot prosecute illegal immigrants for not carrying registration documents with them at all times or require schools to check the immigration status of all students.

But the court said Alabama, among other things, can require police officers to verify the immigration status of anyone they lawfully stop if they suspect they are in the country illegally. Illegal immigrants will also be prohibited from obtaining a license to drive, get a vehicle or open a business.

The Justice Department opposes Alabama's law, claiming it invites discrimination against foreign-born citizens and legal immigrants and is at odds with federal policy. But state officials say the law is necessary to protect the jobs of legal residents.

A final decision on the law won't be made for months to allow time for more arguments.

Another provision of the law that can still be enforced prohibits state and local government agencies from entering into contracts with illegals.

"Science Czar" John P. Holdren (Updated)

Obama's new "Science Czar" John P. Holdren a longtime radical whose beliefs about ecology are tinged with misanthropy.

No surprise. Obama is arrogantly proceeding to bring into the Whitehouse a team of people with radical, extreme leftist view points that cover the spectrum of anti-free speech, anti-free markets, anti-American and similar Marxist, Communist and socialist ideology that are in alignment with his own oft repeated leftist radical views. Just add this in with his belief in the blistering anti-American, racists hate speech of his church's pastor of over 20 years, his close association with criminal radical leftist groups like ACORN and the SEIU (run Google and YouTube searches on both of these organizations using their names and the words "fraud" and “Corruption”), his close association with domestic terrorist Marxist Bill Ayers, his practically being forced to wear an American flag on his lapel during the campaign, his refusing to show respect to this country by not placing his right hand over his heart during the singing of the National Anthem during the campaign, his recent orders to the Department of Defense not to allow for the first time in its 42-year history a military flyover in honor of veterans during the annual event in Idaho that celebrates the military and includes young people swearing the oath of allegiance to protect the country as part of their induction into the armed services, etc., etc., and it is becoming increasingly obvious that those of us who voted for him thinking that the version of "transformation and change to America" of which he spoke during the campaign was akin to that of JFK era of our youth are now awakening to the harsh reality that what he really meant was transforming this great country into a new socialist-fascist hybrid state with all power centered in the Whitehouse.

As evidence, consider just these few recent events:

Obama is busy is implementing his promised "fundamental transformation and change in America" (his words) by:

1. Engaging as one of his advisors Van Jones, a self-proclaimed Marxist, anti-free market, co-founder of several leftist radical extremist groups, and who has a criminal record, to advise him on domestic policy issues, or

2. Allowing the FCC to create a new "Cultural Diversity Officer" position and fill that post with ant-free speech radical activist Mark Lloyd, a self-proclaimed Marxist who is on record stating his admiration for Venezuela’s dictator Chavez for taking control of media outlets so that only the government's view points get aired publically and not any dissenting opinions, and who is proposing to have implemented a policy of shutting down dissenting radio talk shows (conservative and Christian today, but who knows what in he future once the precedent has been set) by requiring them to pay a broadcast license fee equal to their operating costs, effective making them unprofitable to stay in business, and who was co-founder of the leftist radical group “The Color of Change” that instigated the advertiser boycott of Glenn Beck’s TV show in the effort to silence him.

3. Favoring the recent introduction in Congress of legislation that grants Obama exclusive control over when and how to deny internet access to any personal or corporate computer system, and includes a requirement for the periodic reporting to him of the network IDs of all private and business computer networks, their users and purpose of use, or

4. Taking away from the non-partisan Census Bureau the conduct of the census, which is now controlled by the Whitehouse and carried out by members of the radical, leftist, criminal group ACORN (Google the words "ACORN fraud corruption") - a group that Obama use to serve as their National Training Coordinator, or

5. Taking away from the CIA the responsibility to interrogate terrorists suspects, freeing currently detained terrorists and prosecuting the CIA people who use to do the interrogation to protect America from terrorists (and it seems to be working well since 911), or

6. Calling for the creation of "...a civilian army, just as well trained, just as well funded and just as powerful as the military..." (his own words) that will answer to the Whitehouse and be comprised, according to Rahm "the Chicago Shark" Emanuel, of everyone between the ages of 18 to 25 who will be required to take "social justice training" (read: "socialist justice indoctrination/brain washing”). (I bet their uniforms are either ACORN-orange or SEIU-blue instead of brown like the "civilian army that a certain European dictator created some 70 years ago that Obama is using as a template for his youth stormtroopers.)

'Science Czar' John P. Holdren's disturbing beliefs about America, capitalism and humanity

John P. Holdren has been named President Barack Obama's 'Science Czar."

Holdren's official titles are: Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy; Assistant to the President for Science and Technology; and Co-Chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

The longtime Teresa and John Heinz Professor of Environmental Policy at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, Holdren is no stranger to controversy.

Holdren's radicalism dates back to the late 1960s. In 1969 Holdren wrote that it was imperative “to convince society and its leaders that there is no alternative but the cessation of our irresponsible, all-demanding, and all-consuming population growth.”

That same year, he and (the now largely discredited) professor of population studies Paul Ehrlichjointly predicted: “If … population control measures are not initiated immediately and effectively, all the technology man can bring to bear will not fend off the misery to come.” In 1971 Holdren and Ehrlichwarned that “some form of ecocatastrophe, if not thermonuclear war, seems almost certain to overtake us before the end of the century.”

Viewing capitalism as an economic system that is inherently harmful to the natural environment, Holdren and Ehrlich in 1973 called for “a massive campaign … to de-develop the United States” and other Western nations in order to conserve energy and facilitate growth in underdeveloped countries.

“De-development,” they said, “means bringing our economic system into line with the realities of ecology and the world resource situation.” “By de-development,” they elaborated, “we mean lower per-capita energy consumption, fewer gadgets, and the abolition of planned obsolescence.” "

In a new report “inspired by this article in FrontPage,” undercover videoblogger “Zombietime” (known for his “candid camera”-style exposes of leftist activists and protesters) got hold of a copy of Holdren & Ehrlich’s 1977 book, entitled Ecoscience, and verified the quotations and page citations provided in the FrontPage Magazine article, by scanning and posting them on the Internet.

To this day, Holdren lists the book on his CV.

Among other things, Holdren and Ehrlich wrote in Ecosystems:

Indeed, it has been concluded that compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution if the population crisis became sufficiently severe to endanger the society.

It would even be possible to require pregnant single women to marry or have abortions, perhaps as an alternative to placement for adoption, depending on the society.

Adding a sterilant to drinking water or staple foods is a suggestion that seems to horrify people more than most proposals for involuntary fertility control. Indeed, this would pose some very difficult political, legal, and social questions, to say nothing of the technical problems. No such sterilant exists today, nor does one appear to be under development. To be acceptable, such a substance would have to meet some rather stiff requirements: it must be uniformly effective, despite widely varying doses received by individuals, and despite varying degrees of fertility and sensitivity among individuals; it must be free of dangerous or unpleasant side effects; and it must have no effect on members of the opposite sex, children, old people, pets, or livestock.

Backlash Against Boycott of Glenn Beck – Join the Fight For Freedom of Speech! - Updated

A left-wing group’s effort to intimidate corporate advertisers on Fox News’ Glenn Beck show appears to be backfiring as it triggers a wave of support from grass-roots fans rushing to defend the popular TV personality from the attacks.

Even before the liberal boycott of Glenn Beck began this summer, the best-selling author and TV host had became a ratings superstar, with his 5 p.m. cable news program pulling mega prime-time viewership numbers. Beck also had become a lightning rod for liberal groups who didn’t like his anti-Obama message and his staggeringly large audience.

But now Beck’s fame seems to be growing even more as a spontaneous, nationwide effort has sprung up among fans to defend their hero, including Web sites, Facebook groups, homegrown e-mail blasts, and individual telephone campaigns.

The reaction in support of Beck comes in the wake of the advertiser-boycott campaign launched by Color of Change, an African-American advocacy organization with close ties to the Obama White House.

Although the group garnered some success initially, it appears that it is making claims that don’t match reality, with several major companies claiming they never joined any boycott of Beck’s show.

Major advertisers such as Wal-Mart, CVS, ConAgra, and Sargento have directed Fox News not to air their ads during the Glenn Beck Program, according to Color of Change.

The group probably would have been dismissed as a gadfly were it not for its high-level connections to the Obama White House. Color of Change co-founder Van Jones now works in the Obama administration as the president's "green jobs czar."

Beck has been a fearless critic of both President Obama and Jones, whose association with Color of Change was said to have ended in December 2007.

Color of Change Executive Director James Rucker tells Newsmax that his organization wants Beck silenced for his July remark on Fox & Friends that Obama -s "racist" — an opinion Beck voiced in the context of the president’s chastising of the Cambridge Police Department and Sgt. James Crowley for acting "stupidly" in arresting Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates.

"It's preposterous and absurd," Rucker tells Newsmax of Beck's utterance. "It's insulting to black Americans, and it corrupts honest debate. Anyone who uses such a platform to spew such vitriol, whether Glenn Beck or anyone else, has no place on the air, and we at Color Of Change would use every resource available to us to remove corporate sponsorship from their platform."

Conservative Backlash

Beck's enemies on the left, however, have awakened a sleeping giant in their campaign to destroy Beck.

Like the town hall protesters, Beck's supporters are rising up to declare they're fed up and not going to take it anymore. And joining in their counterattack are some of the most respected voices in conservative media.

"Glenn Beck is to be congratulated," New York Times best-selling author Peter Schweizer tells Newsmax. "They only go after you when you are being effective — he must really be causing them problems."

And Rich Noyes, research director for the conservative Media Research Council watchdog organization, says, "I think it tells us a lot about the style of politics coming from the organized left and this White House. They want to be so strenuous in going after their adversaries that they have a take-no-prisoners approach. I think it would be unthinkable if conservatives, particularly those affiliated with the Bush White House, had gone after a media figure associated with one of the other networks."

Conservative icon and direct-marketing expert Richard Viguerie tells Newsmax: "That's Chicago politics. We're seeing the Chicago-ization of politics. We hear how dangerous it is for some of these people to come in the vicinity of the president with a weapon. Then we see the chairman of a powerful committee, Henry Waxman, issuing subpoenas to 50 insurance executives for their corporate records. That's how they play the game. They will use any method they can to attain power and then hold onto that power. They tried to do the same with Rush Limbaugh, but Rush Limbaugh is too big for them to handle. This is how Democrats operate."

On Thursday, DC Examiner editorial page editor Mark Tapscott wrote: "Funny, I don't recall that the First Amendment guarantees freedom of expression to everybody except those whose opinions the four members of ColorofChange.org find ‘repulsive and divisive.’"

Tapscott called on readers to conduct a reverse boycott against the companies bowing to left-wing pressure, who are pulling their ads from Beck's program. Those companies, Tapscott says, "are aiding and abetting a vicious, political campaign to slander him by an outfit apparently created for just such a purpose."

A reverse boycott is precisely what's taking place.

On Aug. 16, Beck supporter John Hill launched a Web site, DefendGlenn.com. Five days later, the site had recorded 1.9 million visits, racked up 1,033 Twitter followers, and garnered 5,800 user comments on its "Support Wall," Hill says.

"Let your voice be heard! Fight back against the lies and the extremist boycott of Glenn Beck," the site declares.

DefendGlenn.com provides contact information for companies that have pulled their advertising. It also lists and encourages the companies who have stuck with the Beck program.

"We launched DefendGlenn basically just to counter a lot of the distortions and lies that were put out by this group Color of Change, which we saw weren't being countered at all," Hill tells Newsmax.

Among the messages fans left on the DefendGlenn "Support Wall" to show their support for Beck:

"Freedom of speech applies to all speech, even those from the right," wrote Matt Elmore of Woodbridge, Va.

"You are not alone, but like Gen. Washington, out in front of the troops," wrote Michael Lyon of Estero, Fla.

"Never give up,” Leonor Godwin of Stephenville, Texas, wrote him. “They are trying to break you. You are our inspiration and our rock."

Hill also tells Newsmax he has received 5,000 e-mails from people who tell him they are canceling their Geico insurance policy because the company has joined the boycott against Beck, and about 6,500 e-mails from consumers who say they never will buy a Sargento product again.

"I don't want to do that," Hill tells Newsmax. "I think boycotts are stupid. But if they're going to join the boycott, boycotts work two ways. Earlier in the week, the companies were saying, 'Yeah we're dropping the ads.’ But as soon as people started getting in touch with them, they started denying they were dropping anything.'"

Other Beck supporters also are getting into the act. They include an upstate New York stay-at-home mom who became alarmed when she saw the orchestrated campaign to make one of the most independent voices in American media a pariah. Already a member of the 912 organization Beck initiated to recapture the nonpartisan spirit of unity the nation experienced after the 9/11 terror attacks, she created SupportGlennBeck.com.

The site includes a petition that states: “Through his radio and television show, he promotes God, family, and country — which resonates with a majority of Americans.

“There are some people who have an ideological problem with Glenn Beck. These people will not be satisfied until voices such as Glenn’s are silenced. For the millions of us who share Glenn’s values, there is nothing more frightening than losing our forum,” the petition states.

The growing pro-Beck movement has also reached social networking sites. One example: Beck supporter Doug Edelman of St. Louis has established a new Facebook group, “Defend Glenn Beck Against Thug Inspired Boycott.” During its first week, more than 790 members joined the group, which includes a statement of support for Beck and lists contact information for companies that are said to be boycotting his show.

Exaggerated Boycotts

The anti-Beck activists claim that more than 20 advertisers have dropped the Beck program. Hill and others on the pro-Beck side dispute say Color of Change has greatly exaggerated the effect of its boycott.

Many of the companies the organization lists now deny they have anything to do with the boycott. Newsmax contacted Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, SC Johnson, and Radio Shack, all of which said they have not directed Fox News to pull their ads from the Glenn Beck Program, as Color of Change has stated.

In fact, these companies’ representatives tell Newsmax that, as a matter of corporate policy, they never did advertise on the Glenn Beck Program and ask how they could boycott a program they never placed an ad on in the first place.

Another company, State Farm, tells Newsmax that its ad was never supposed to air on the Glenn Beck Program. State Farm has a longstanding company policy against advertising on any "political or opinion programming," its spokesman says.

Having discovered the error, State Farm says, it will not be advertising on any cable talk show. And it is careful to emphasize it is not singling out Beck in this regard.

As State Farm’s response suggests, the net effect of the anti-Beck crusade probably will be fewer advertisers willing to advertise on the talk shows of any cable network.

Consider, for example, the corporate response from Clorox. On Thursday, company executives wrote Hill stating: “After a comprehensive review of political talk shows across the spectrum, at this time we have made a decision not to advertise on political talk shows.”

Assuming the pro-Beck backlash continues, that probably means the activist campaign intended to hurt Beck will, ironically, damage Beck’s progressive competitors more than it hurts him.

Lost ads will impact smaller networks such as MSNBC far more than it will affect ratings juggernaut Fox News, industry sources say.

Nearly 2.5 million viewers tuned in to Beck’s show in its 5 p.m. Eastern time slot last week, according to Mediabistro’s TV Newser. Beck’s ratings on Fox exceeded those of CNN, MSNBC, and Headline News combined.

All of which calls into question whether advertiser boycotts work anyway.

“It’s funny because I think their calculation is that by going after advertisers they are going to affect his bottom line,” Schweizer says. “But this is a common misperception of liberals. Beck isn’t in this for the money. So even if they could succeed, they won’t silence him.”

Michael Harrison has seen plenty of media campaigns come and go as publisher of Talkers Magazine. “My guess,” he says, “is he will weather this storm.”

“Beck expected to get hostile feedback, and a whole bunch of publicity, and he succeeded on both counts,” Harrison says. “People have the right to be offended and businesses have the right to spend their advertising dollars however they choose. Free speech guarantees the right of having an opinion without government censorship. It doesn’t guarantee that people won’t be angry and withhold their support. The free marketplace of ideas is not for the faint hearted!”

And for ratings giant Fox, Beck’s remarkable connection with viewers has made the free market a profitable one indeed. “The advertisers referenced have all moved their spots from Beck to other programs on the network,” a Fox spokesman recently told Ad Age, “so there is no revenue lost.”

Conservatives Defend Glenn Beck

As several large corporations join the boycott of Glenn Beck, conservatives are rallying to his defense.
Institute for Liberty Senior Fellow in Law and Regulation Horace Cooper, JD, has created a FIGHT FOR GLENN BECK websiteas "a place for those of us who support him to speak out."
Conservative bloggers have are also defending Beck. For example, RedState's Erick Erickson is calling on conservatives to join a counter-boycott, writing,

This left wing campaign is being orchestrated by a group started by Obama’s Green Jobs Czar, Van Jones.

If they are successful, they will move beyond Beck to others.

Two of the companies, GEICO and Progressive, are run by liberals. But that’s not the case with all the others.

The best response is to remind all of these companies that there will be repercussions from our side if they are so willing to become pawns of the left.

My personal position on Glenn Beck -- as I discussed on CBN last night (watch here and skip to the 00:15:15 time mark) -- is a bit more nuanced than most. While I understand the need for conservatives to defend him, I also have always viewed him as being much closer to P.T. Barnum than to William F. Buckley. That doesn't mean I would support a boycott against his show -- far from it -- but it does make me wonder how much political capital is worth expending.

So the question is: Should conservatives go to the mat to defend Glenn Beck?

The answer: Absolutely!!!

This is a fight not only for Glenn Beck; it is a fight for the Freedom of Speech. Remember today it is Glenn Beck, tomorrow it will be you!!
