Tiger Woods, Republican? House Minority Leader John Boehner seems to think it might be a possibility.
Boehner is taking a day off from fundraising this week to hit the links with Tiger Woods, according to The Hill. The Ohio Republican, a seasoned golfer with a seven handicap, is set to play alongside the top-ranked, popular golfer in the Earl Woods Memorial Pro-Am portion of the AT&T National tournament at Congressional Country Club on Wednesday.
There was no word who else was in the Woods-Boehner foursome, but the article makes it clear that Boehner sees the most famous golfer in the world as a potential Republican in the age of Obama.
After speaking on the National Mall during the inauguration ceremonies in January, there was speculation that the superstar was a Democrat, the Hill reports. But the civic-minded athlete has not revealed his party affiliation.
This is Tiger's third year hosting the annual PGA tournament in the nation's capital during the week of July 4. Woods dedicates the tournament to the men and women in the U.S. armed forces. The legendary golfer's father, Earl, served in the Army and Special Forces.
Boehner also often spends recesses teeing it up at courses across the country, raising money for GOP candidates and rallying his own troops.
According to tournament officials, 120 players will participate, including 2009 U.S. Open winner Lucas Glover, Paul Casey, three-time major winner Vijay Singh, former U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk, Sean O’Hair, and former Masters champion Mike Weir.
