Conservatives are patriotic Americans, liberals are not…

This will not come as a shock to people in the Tea Party movement.  Conservatives are patriotic, liberals are not.  This is not just a saying we have in the conservative movement.  We now have proof!

What is the proof?

Democratic political candidates can skip this weekend's July 4th parades. A new Harvard University study finds that July 4th parades energize only Republicans, turn kids into Republicans, and help to boost the GOP turnout of adults on Election Day.

"Fourth of July celebrations in the United States shape the nation's political landscape by forming beliefs and increasing participation, primarily in favor of the Republican Party," said the report from Harvard. [See political cartoons about the 2012 GOP field.]

"The political right has been more successful in appropriating American patriotism and its symbols during the 20th century. Survey evidence also confirms that Republicans consider themselves more patriotic than Democrats. According to this interpretation, there is a political congruence between the patriotism promoted on Fourth of July and the values associated with the Republican party. Fourth of July celebrations in Republican dominated counties may thus be more politically biased events that socialize children into Republicans," write Harvard Kennedy School Assistant Professor David Yanagizawa-Drott and Bocconi University Assistant Professor Andreas Madestam.

Their findings also suggest that Democrats gain nothing from July 4th parades, likely a shocking result for all the Democratic politicians who march in them.

This is something any conservative could have told Harvard.  Liberals are not patriots.  Liberals do not love this country.  Liberals think America is the focus of evil in the modern world, not the greatest nation on the face of the world.

The good news in that study is if you take kids to Fourth of July parades, they are much more likely to grow up conservative, support conservative causes and vote for conservative candidates.

Patriot Camp... In The Beginning

The members of As A Mom have answered many calls to action since this amazing group began.  AAM has also been a place for many of us, who felt very alone in our ideas and mindset, to come together and unite on common values and principles – specifically those of the 9/12 Project.  After connecting outside the AAM site during the health care debates, three members, Heather Sellars, Deb Seneca and Michelle Tonkin worked together for the common goal of teaching our community’s children about the greatness of America and the truth about its miraculous founding.  Disgusted with the indoctrination and revisionist history being peddled in our schools, we and three other friends took it upon ourselves to teach at least a few children the truth about America.  As a response to the Organizing for America summer camps that were being pushed in our nation’s high schools, we decided to hold our own summer camp, Patriot Camp, in the summer of 2010.

Having many years of collective Vacation Bible School experience under our belts, we decided to model our program after a traditional VBS format. We ran a one week camp, with each session lasting 2 ½ hours.  Each of the five mornings had a theme, including Revolutionary War, Declaration of Independence, Constitution/Bill of Rights, Our Great Republic and Founders Friday. We broke the children into six age groups, and the campers rotated through six stations daily, including three Learning Stations, Snacks, Crafts and Games.  Each station’s lessons and fun activities tied into the theme of the day.  Our camp activities are geared toward elementary-aged children, however, the curriculum lessons are pertinent and easily adaptable for children and adults of all ages!

When possible, we looked to original sources to teach the basic tenets of our founding documents and our history. It is our feeling that the best way to protect the freedom we enjoy, is to understand the history and documents that provide for that freedom.  Patriot Camp uses a camp setting to teach these lessons, so that children will have fun while they learn about and develop an interest in America’s rich history. Patriot Camp involves everyone - kids, parents, and the community – coming together for the common goal of educating ourselves and our children about our great nation.

The first Patriot Camp was held in Paxtang, PA, in the summer of 2010. We thought that we would possibly attract 20-25 children. The interest was tremendous, and we actually had to cap our enrollment at 70 children! We started with a core committee of six moms – Denise Phillips, Heather Sellars, Deb Seneca, Michelle Tonkin, Judy Torres and Kelly Willuski. We had more than 20 additional volunteers and several businesses and community organizations that also believed in our vision and helped to make Patriot Camp a huge success!  Visit www.patriotcamp.org to see pictures of this memorable week and a clip of us on Glenn Beck in May!

Constitutional Champions Foundation…Patriot Camp Goes National!

After running an unforgettable camp, Deb, Michelle and I decided to take everything we did and everything we learned, organize it, and – as Benjamin Franklin would have done – make it available, so that others could run Patriot Camps in their own communities with a tested curriculum.  Originally, we looked for an existing curriculum, but could not find one. So, we developed our own program from scratch.  It was time consuming and an unknown, but we were committed to our cause.

Our group took an amazing turn when, thanks to another AAM member, Tabatha Ridley, our camp program was recommended to Yvonne Donnelly, National Chair of the 9/12 Project, and Founder of Constitutional Champions Foundation, a newly formed non-profit organization set up to meet the needs of our children through American history education, particularly as it pertains to the Constitution and the Founding generation. The mission of Constitutional Champions is to involve the youth of our country through educational programs, school groups, and community service projects.  Further, CCF’s goal is to promote true patriotism through its education materials.

We were thrilled and honored when Yvonne invited us to partner with her and create a Patriot Camp Kit to be marketed nationwide.  After struggling for almost a year, trying to encourage others to hold Patriot Camps in their own communities, we now had a respected national platform from which to spread our message of freedom.  The opportunity with Constitutional Champions was truly an answer to many, many prayers. As a result of our partnership with Constitutional Champions, Patriot Camps (so far 60 and counting!) will be held nationwide in the summer of 2011!  Thank you Yvonne Donnelly, Lori Parker and Tabatha Ridley for your support of and help with this labor of love.

We encourage you to hold a Patriot Camp in your own community.  It will not only help fill a desperate need in our nation, to educate our children in truth about America…but, it will also be an unforgettably rewarding experience for you and all those involved.  With a Patriot Camp Kit, available through www.constitutionalchampions.org, you will have all the information needed to organize and carry out a successful Patriot Camp, including a detailed outline of what to expect each day. America is so much more than a country - it is an idea. We are endowed by our Creator, not by elected officials, with certain unalienable rights. We are a nation of laws. And, we are perhaps the only nation on Earth that puts the individual above the collective. Without that premise, America no longer offers the freedom and liberty for which she has been long revered. This is what we should be teaching our kids: entrepreneurship Little Susie’s Small Business Lemonade Stand (Video), independent thinking, the positives of free market capitalism, math, independence and leadership… plus American History from original sources!

Little Susie must live in a Republican State. If she lived in a Democratic Party controlled State, she would be arrested for selling her lemonade without a permit, arrested by the Obama Sugar Police for reckless endangerment, fined by the IRS for not providing Obamacare for her employees, her Federal Taxes would rise 66% as punishment for being a successful small business, and her teachers from school would go picket at her home, screaming "Boycott Susie" because she has non-union employees!

I have to say this is one of the funniest, cutest,and innocent commercials I've seen in a long time. Whoever came up with this one hit the proverbial home run.

It's funny how a dad leaves a smart phone to help his little girl with her lemonade stand and she creates a giant corporation in an afternoon.

In a world full of darkness, it's refreshing to see something entertaining in a wholesome kind of way!

Instead we are teaching them the negatives and supposed evils for Capitalism, group think, and social justice.

And in many states, instead of focusing on reading, writing, arithmetic, science and history we are allowing the schools to take the place of the parent in teaching their children social values and sex education on a level that no child should even know or think about, let alone have to deal with an learn about in explicit ways.

Church Awakens: New Campaign to Save the 5,000 Year Old Tradition of Marriage

DARING THE YOUTH TO PROTEST, IRAN BANS VALENTINES DAY!

Egypt‘s revolt has been credited to an energized and organized population of it’s very young citizens.  With more than half of the country under the age of 30, and 40% of that demographic unemployed, the potential for social unrest should have seemed obvious to intelligence sources. Apparently it wasn’t.  Now hop over to Iran where it is estimated that a staggering 70% of all Iranians are under 30 and a “day of rage” is being planned for Monday, Valentines Day AND just last month the government banned the production of anything to do with Valentines Day in Iran, stating;

“Printing and producing any products related to Valentine’s Day, including posters, brochures, advertising cards, boxes with the symbols of hearts, half-hearts, red roses and any activities promoting this day are banned,” read the instruction. “Authorities will take legal action against those who ignore the ban.”

Coincidence?    I think not.

Saturday’s Wall Street Journal Op-Ed piece from Melik Kaylan boils it down for us;

The Iranian state has pronounced against unauthorized mingling of the sexes, rap music, rock music, Western music, women playing in bands, too-bright nail polish, laughter in hospital corridors, ancient Persian rites-of-spring celebrations (Nowrooz), and even the mention of foreign food recipes in state media. This last may sound comically implausible, but it was officially announced by a state-run website on Feb. 6. So now the true nature of pasta as an instrument of Western subversion has been revealed.

The regime’s posture turns the smallest garden-variety gestures into thrilling acts of subversion. Slipping a Valentine card to a girlfriend takes on the significance of samizdat. Every firecracker set off during Nowrooz diminishes the police state’s claims to omniscience. The mullahs have appointed themselves the enemy of fun; as a result, wherever fun herniates into view, it is a politicized irruption of defiance.

Pre-Revolution Iran was quite different than the country seen today.  Tehran was teeming with designer boutiques and at night the discos were thumping and packed with beautiful people from all over the globe, dancing the nights away.  Then came the Ayatollah Khomeini and his mullahs, changing the cosmopolitan country into fundamentalist Islamic state. Party over.  At least the “anything Western” party was over.

Well sir, 30 years have passed and much like Egypt, a young population is hungry for change. Following the contested and corrupt elections of 2009, Iran’s streets were filled with protests for days until government thugs managed to beat down any resistance.  Today we learned that Iran senses that Monday’s planned “Day of Rage” may cause the regime problems, so they have begun shutting down parts of the Internet and monitoring email, and social media.

(CNN) — Iranian authorities have blocked the word “Bahman” — the 11th month of the Persian calendar — from Internet searches within the country, according to an opposition website.

The measure appears to be an effort by Iranian authorities to obstruct access to several websites that are promoting a rally on Monday — the 25th day of Bahman — proposed by Iranian opposition leaders in support of the uprising in Egypt, Saham News reported Saturday.

Did anyone else just get an “uh-oh, here we go again” feeling?
