Glenn Beck warns against ‘vaporization of Israel’

Glenn Beck with Dayan, Hotovely, Shvut, Goldstein

In interview with 'Post' former-Fox News broadcaster promises Jerusalem mega-event in August will be bipartisan, not an anti-Obama rally.

The “vaporization of Israel” and the end of the Western way of life as we know it could be on the horizon, American broadcaster Glenn Beck warned in an interview with The Jerusalem Post in the capital’s David Citadel Hotel on Wednesday.

Beck came to Israel to prepare for “Restoring Courage,” his Jerusalem mega-event set for late next month. He also addressed the Knesset’s Diaspora Affairs Committee, toured Gush Etzion and Sderot, and met with hi-tech entrepreneurs and Vice Premier Moshe Ya’alon.

“[Christian Israel supporters] see tragedy coming down the pike unless we take a stand,” Beck said. “Many of us were asleep for a long time. There are Americans who still say it will never happen, and everything will work out because we are America. But I know Americans outside of Washington who know that’s not necessarily true – not unless you change that behavior. We are waking up to what could be on the horizon: and what could be on the horizon is the vaporization of Israel and the end of the Western way of life as we know it,” he continued.

Beck said the way to prevent such a tragedy was to stand together, be righteous and decent and protect one another. To that end, he is organizing three separate events in Jerusalem under the Restoring Courage banner.

One will be for American-Christians and will be viewed in hundreds of churches in the US.

Beck said the event is intended to “get the Christian community in America to wake up and start standing up [for Israel].”
Another event will be more political, featuring Democratic Senator Joseph Lieberman, Republican presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Herman Cain, and at least two other candidates whom Beck declined to reveal.

He said the event would be attended by more than 30 American national political figures, 70 international politicians and citizen delegations from 100 countries around the world, including Bahrain.
At Beck’s request, Americans will be getting together to watch the event, bringing Jews and Christians together.

More than 700 viewing parties have already been organized.
“If it’s just an event, we failed,” he said. “It’s a launch of a movement of decent, like-minded, freedom-loving peaceful people who know the answer won’t come from Washington or Copenhagen. It’s not going to come from our political leaders, but from the people. It’s a freedom movement, something the Tel Aviv hi-tech people and the most Orthodox in Jerusalem would understand and come together for.”

Beck vowed that the event would be bipartisan and would not develop into a rally against US president Barack Obama. Even though he is one of Obama’s fiercest critics, Beck makes a point of not criticizing the American administration when he’s abroad.
“Now that we’re a global community, this answer doesn’t seem to make sense because a lot of people here in Israel watch my program, but I don’t talk about the policies of my country outside my country,” he said.

“If you want to know my opinion of the policies of the president, you can go to YouTube and see what I said in New York, and will continue to say in New York. There won’t be politics in this event. There will be values, virtues and principles.”

The world leader whom will more likely be a central focus of speeches at the event will be Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Much like Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Beck does not shy away from using Holocaust terminology when warning about Iran’s nuclearization.

Beck, who visited Auschwitz on his way to Israel for a documentary on Righteous Gentiles, says the world must learn from history.
“I was on the radio four years ago saying we’re passing all the exits,” he said.

“Soon it’s a cliff. You’ve got to turn the car around. Someone needs to find a solution. Come what may, will we be brave enough? I told Netanyahu when Bush was president, the Americans won’t do it. No one else is going to do it. Those [Iranian] people will build trains again [for the Jews]. [Ahmadinejad] said the Jews will burn in the fires of the Islamic fury. I think that’s pretty clear.”

Have Christians Gone Overboard in Outreach to Muslims?

"In the Muslim world, Islamists increasingly target Christians for persecution; in the Western world, Christians increasingly target Muslims for outreach. Extending a hand to followers of Islam can be praiseworthy, but the lengths to which some Christians have gone may come as a shock. Consider a few recent cases on the congregational level..."

"Plundering the possessions, lives, and dignity of Christians in the Islamic world: is this a random affair, a product of the West's favorite offenders—poverty, ignorance, grievance—or is it systematic, complete with
ideological backing?"

Mark – (9:20 AM)

Some day, Christians will realize that righteousness and peace come only where there is justice, and that sometimes justice is only implemented and maintained by force. There is a Biblical mandate to take up arms and defend oneself, one's family, and others when the hordes of injustice seek to overrun the land. There is a time for war. A lot of Christians seem to have forgotten that.

Blazing Cat Fur – (9:27 AM)

For certain Christians "justice" has come to mean the utopian poison of "social justice" has espoused by the useful idiots of the left. Therein lies the problem, everyone wants to feel they occupy the moral high-ground, many simply wish not to pay the real rent that entails.

Also: Yes, some Christians have gone too far with Muslim outreach. What is scarier though is that the majority of North American Christians have zero understanding of Islam.

"We're not afraid of the truth," he added.
If you won't acknowledge the truth how could you be afraid of it.

munimula – (10:40 AM)

It would be nice to see these dhimmi stooges travel to a Muslim majority country with their naïve outreach programs. Lets see how many Imams would be willing to graft a Church or Synagogue on to their Mosques. Why not see how outreach works when the Muslims are in the majority? Perhaps some insight into the real atmospherics of Islamic hegemony would open their eyes, I doubt it though, because their minds have been distorted by the world’s biggest lie that, all cultures are equal. May I suggest they start off in the birthplace of Islam, Saudi Arabia.

Mark – (12:12 PM)

@Square Mile Wife
Excellent distinction between loving and enabling.
@BCF
You're exactly right RE "social justice." Whenever I hear that term bandied about in our church or social circle, my first question is, "What do you mean when you say 'social justice'?" Near invariably, the answer involves socialism and other forms of coercion.

Blazing Cat Fur – (12:42 PM)

Willful blindness, there is no other explanation.

been around the block – (7:30 PM)

Square Mile Wife: "Loving your neighbor and enabling your neighbor are not the same thing."
That's for sure. The Christian Scriptures counsel us to "love our neighbor as ourselves." Loving ourselves definitely means not enabling our neighbor whose intention is to destroy us and our families.
Unfortunately, the image of gentle Jesus, meek and mild has overtaken the image of Jesus overturning the tables of the money changers (usurers) in the temple. Too many Christians have conflated loving with being nice.
Ask any (non-insane) parent about what it is to love their child; it often means tough love, discipline, saying "no," putting your foot down, hating the sin -- and making it clear that it's unacceptable -- while loving the sinner.
I say "down with niceness," and up with telling it like it is and not taking any crap from those who don't like us and who definitely don't want the best for us.
Jesus didn't tell us to lay our weapons down. He gave us spiritual weapons and told us, through Paul's letter to the Ephesians, to put on the full armor of God "against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6). He expects us to be aware that we are in a battle, the battle of good vs. evil, love vs. hate, life vs. death: "Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm."
Are these the directives of a "nice" God? They're not. They're the directives of a loving God who has His eyes wide open. He wants us to have ours wide open too.

Just following random links on the "Iran cultural center" home page I came across this:

Yup...definitely overboard.

Osumashi Kinyobe – (10:06 PM)

It's one thing to bear wrongs patiently and forgive them; it's quite another to deny and restrict the truth. Christianity is not equal to cultures that rape, enslave and murder.

Blazing Cat Fur – (11:21 PM)

Thanks for that Melykin, I will look into that, good catch.
Well said BatB & Osumashi.

Why Common Sense Died

obama-dog-housebroken-on-Constitution

Recently Glenn Beck has rightly been lamenting the death of "common sense" in American government and law--a phenomenon which must be evident to many Americans over forty and manifest to every Bible-believing Christian. Philip K. Howard had complained against massive, hyper-detailed laws generated by regulatory bureaucracies to tell us what we must do in every situation--and leaving nothing to the common sense of the individual--in The Death of Common Sense; How Law Is Suffocating America (1995). Glenn's guest Lori Borgman (www.loriborgman.com) lamented the death of "Common Sense" in a great, now much-circulated satirical obituary in the March 15, 1998 Indianapolis Star.

Bureaucratic law, Howard noted, replaced humanity in the replacement of the system of common law which we inherited from England. Bureaucratic rules and regulations seek to predetermine results based on rationalistically conceived principles; the common law applies the law on the basis of the circumstances as evaluated by the common sense of the individual person. The "Progressive Era" at the beginning of the twentieth century saw statutory law begin to replace the common law for purposes of economic regulation; this increased with the economic regulations of the "New Deal" and continued with the increase of federal government bureaucracies added under subsequent administrations. The idea that every situation must be covered by the law has produced an explosion of the size and detail of laws--including those which Congress votes on but never reads, those which our bureaucrats produce but cannot explain, and those which cannot be known because the regulations are too massive and numerous.

The fact that no matter how learned, intelligent, and numerous are the bureaucrats who grind out these legal monstrosities they cannot know or anticipate every situation produces not only oppressive regulations but also the frequently asinine details of many regulations. Centrally-dictated, self-exercising rules, Howard notes, admit "no judgment or discretion," allow for no adjustment to the virtually infinite "range of future circumstances," and give us the opposite of what our "founding fathers" wanted: coercive government, "a government of laws against men." Such a legal system stifles individual initiative, produces time-consuming wrangles over bureaucratic processes, involved lawyers in virtually every human interaction, makes us a society of legal enemies, and reduces our freedom.

Borgman traces the death of "Common Sense" to the prior deaths of his family members, Discretion, Responsibility, and Reason. And to his declining health, caused by the notion that a law should be passed or a regulation mandated even if it only helps one person, well-intentioned but overbearing regulations, self-seeking lawyers, and schools' zero-tolerance policies. And to his loss of the will to live--caused by the proscription of the Ten Commandments, churches becoming businesses, criminals getting better treatment than their victims, judges interfering in everything, idiotic decisions by juries, and nonsensical OSHA (Occupation Safety and Health Administration)-type regulations. Howard traces it to 17th and 18th century "Enlightenment" rationalism's notion that man's unaided reason can predetermine, and create laws governing, all relations between citizens.

The death of "Common Sense" was and is caused by modern men's rejection of God, the Bible, and a Christian view of the world and of life. "Enlightenment" rationalism sought to effectively exclude God from His universe and world (rationalistic Deism which denied God's divine providence) was but one way of doing this), to replace God's word with man's unaided reason, to replace God's divine providence with man's control of all things through the all-powerful state, and God's law with man's laws. "Common Sense" is not a universal thing. As R. J. Rushdoony pointed out, different religious-philosophies teach diverse views of the world and of life, and what is considered commonsensical in one society is not considered to be so in another. What we in Western Civilization considered to be common sense was a product of the prior influence of Christianity on the peoples of Western Civilization.

When Western and American law were based mainly on biblical teachings men could know what the law required--and figure out what the law required in a given new situation--because God's law is not a monstrous, complex, self-contradictory conglomeration of regulations. The common law is a great mass of judicial decisions, but the ethics on which those decisions were based, the ethics which allowed for individual initiative and judgment in novel situations, is derived from biblical law and Christian theories of "natural law."
God's law revealed in the Bible contains few laws which men, using their God-given reason as He intended us to use it, can discern. Christ's yoke is easy and His burden is light. Faith in Him and obedience to His law is the way of national prosperity and freedom (as Deuteronomy 28, Leviticus 26 and many other Bible passages make clear).

Though modern man-centered thought, because of its inherent problems, has gone from rationalism to irrationality, the irrationalists who currently dominate our culture and civil governments are just as opposed to common sense and freedom as were their rationalistic parents.
Their continued rule will make sure that "Common Sense" stays dead. And it will certainly kill Freedom.

Americans used to have the freedom to use common sense because the church--following the Great Commission--had sought to influence, and did decisively influence the peoples of Western Civilization including these United States of America: their ethical, social, legal, and political thought, institutions, and culture. Americans no longer have that freedom to use common sense because the church has long abandoned the wholeness of the Great Commission. The church in this country as well as throughout Western Civilization still has virtually abandoned preaching and teaching the whole counsel of God; education; ethical, social, legal, and political thought; and the influencing legal and political institutions. As a result "Common Sense" is dead and Freedom is nearly so.

Americans used to be free to exercise "Common Sense"--and to have the Freedom to do so--because the church had (albeit imperfectly!) obeyed the Great Commission. "Common Sense" will not be resurrected, and Freedom will soon die--or be strangled--if the church does not return to the whole counsel of God and obedience to His Great Commission.

A Legacy of Inspiration

In January 1948, Mohandas Gandhi was shot three times by a Hindu assassin as he walked through a garden in New Delhi to take evening prayers. He died instantly.

Today he is remembered as an anti-colonialist, an advocate of non-violence, a pioneer of civil disobedience and the father of the world's largest democracy.

He achieved a great deal as a political leader, working against discrimination, poverty and the caste system. He ended "untouchability." He expanded women's rights, religious tolerance and economic self-reliance.

For all these things, Gandhi is rightly honored. In the long run, however, Mahatma (literally "Great Soul") may be best remembered for his contribution to humanity's inner life.

Gandhi advocated a simple and unassuming lifestyle. He lived modestly, wore the traditional Indian dhoti and shawl, and ate plain vegetarian food. He said it did not require money to be neat, clean and dignified.

He undertook long fasts, sometimes for self-purification, other times as social protest.

And he had a sense of humor. Asked once what he thought about Western civilization, Gandhi replied, "I think it would be a good idea."

Gandhi suffered many hardships in his life. He was imprisoned several times and for many years in both South Africa - where he first employed non-violent civil disobedience as an expatriate lawyer - and in India.

During these periods, he took the time to write down his key principles. Here are just a few of his thoughts:

~ In matters of conscience, the law of the majority has no place.

~ All of your scholarship, all your study of Shakespeare and Wordsworth would be in vain if at the same time you did not build your character and attain mastery over your thoughts and your actions.

~ A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks he becomes.

~ The only tyrant I accept in this world is the 'still small voice' within.

~ Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.

~ I do not want to foresee the future. I am concerned with taking care of the present.

~ What a great thing it would be if we in our busy lives, could retire into ourselves each day, for at least a couple of hours, and prepare our minds to listen to the voice of the great silence.

~ Experience has taught me that silence is a part of the spiritual discipline of a votary of truth.  Proneness to exaggerate, to suppress or modify truth, wittingly or unwittingly, is a natural weakness of man, and silence is necessary to surmount it. A man of few words will rarely be thoughtless in his speech. He will measure every word.

~ True happiness is impossible without true health and true health is impossible without rigid control of the palate. All the other senses will automatically come under our control when the palate has been brought under control. And he who has conquered his senses has really conquered the whole world.

More than sixty years after his death, Gandhi is still viewed as one of the world's great spiritual leaders.

He dedicated his life to the purpose of discovering Truth - something he insisted could only be revealed to those with a deep sense of humility - and believed the most important battle is overcoming our own fears and insecurities.

The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing, Gandhi insisted, is sufficient to solve most of our problems.

"He was driven to help the poor, the sick and the downtrodden and to free them from colonialism no matter the cost to himself," writes Archbishop Desmond Tutu. "In the end it cost him his life.  However, he left us a legacy of inspiration that is remarkable in its sincerity and love of humanity."

Albert Einstein agreed. He was moved to say: "Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked the earth."

Gandhi asked that his writings be cremated with his body. He wanted his life to be his message, not what he had written or said.

In the end, he believed that words are meaningless. Actions alone show our true priorities. Or, as he famously said:

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
