The Lawyers' Party

The Democratic Party has become the Lawyers Party. Barack Obama is a lawyer. Michelle Obama is a lawyer. Hillary Clinton is a lawyer. Bill Clinton is a lawyer. John Edwards is a lawyer. Elizabeth Edwards was a lawyer.

Every Democrat nominee since 1984 went to law school (although Gore did not graduate). Every Democrat vice presidential nominee since 1976, except for Lloyd Bentsen, went to law school. Look at leaders of the Democrat Party in Congress: Harry Reid is a lawyer. Nancy Pelosi is a lawyer.

The Republican Party is different. President Bush is a businessman. Vice President Cheney is a businessman. The leaders of the Republican Revolution: Newt Gingrich was a history professor. Tom Delay was an exterminator. Dick Armey was an economist. House Minority Leader Boehner was a plastic manufacturer. The former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is a heart surgeon. Who was the last Republican president who was a lawyer?

Gerald Ford, who left office 31 years ago and who barely won the Republican nomination as a sitting president, running against Ronald Reagan in 1976. The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work, who are often the targets of lawyers. The Democrat Party is made up of lawyers. Democrats mock and scorn men who create wealth, like Bush and Cheney, or who heal the sick, like Frist, or who immerse themselves in history, like Gingrich. The Lawyers Party sees these sorts of people, who provide goods and services that people want, as the enemies of America . And, so we have seen the procession of official enemies, in the eyes of the Lawyers Party, grow. Against whom do Hillary and Obama rail? Pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, hospitals, manufacturers, fast food restaurant chains, large retail businesses, bankers, and anyone producing anything of value in our nation. This is the natural consequence of viewing everything through the eyes of lawyers. Lawyers solve problems by successfully representing their clients, in this case the American people. Lawyers seek to have new laws passed, they seek to win lawsuits, they press appellate courts to overturn precedent, and lawyers always parse language to favor their side. Confined to the narrow practice of law, that is fine. But it is an awful way to govern a great nation.

When politicians as lawyers begin to view some Americans as clients and other Americans as opposing parties, then the role of the legal system in our life becomes all-consuming.

Some Americans become adverse parties of our very government.

We are not all litigants in some vast social class-action suit.

We are citizens of a republic that promises us a great deal of freedom from laws, from courts, and from lawyers. Today, we are drowning in laws; we are contorted by judicial decisions; we are driven to distraction by omnipresent lawyers in all parts of our once private lives. America has a place for laws and lawyers, but that place is modest and reasonable, not vast and unchecked. When the most important decision for our next president is whom he will appoint to the Supreme Court, the role of lawyers and the law in America is too big. When House Democrats sue America in order to hamstring our efforts to learn what our enemies are planning to do to us, then the role of litigation in America has become crushing. We cannot expect the Lawyers Party to provide real change, real reform or real hope in America . Most Americans know that a republic in which every major government action must be blessed by nine unelected judges is not what Washington intended in 1789. Most Americans grasp that we cannot fight a war when ACLU lawsuits snap at the heels of our defenders. Most Americans intuit that more lawyers and judges will not restore declining moral values or spark the spirit of enterprise in our economy. Perhaps Americans will understand that change cannot be brought to our nation by those lawyers who already largely dictate American society and business. (One of the greatest problems is that all these Democratic Lawyers believe in, were trained in and practice case law… not Constitutional law and they generally look at the Constitution as a relic from the past lacking any use or place in modern time instead of being the greatest document for freedom ever created.  The use of case law is one of the main reasons that our country has headed down the wrong path.)

Perhaps Americans will see that hope does not come from the mouths of lawyers but from personal dreams nourished by hard work. Perhaps Americans will embrace the truth that more lawyers with more power will only make our problems worse. The United States has 5% of the world's population and 66% of the world's lawyers!

Tort (Legal) reform legislation has been introduced in congress several times in the last several years to limit punitive damages in ridiculous lawsuits such as spilling hot coffee on yourself and suing the establishment that sold it to you and also to limit punitive damages in huge medical malpractice lawsuits. This legislation has continually been blocked from even being voted on by the Democrat Party.

When you see that 97% of the political contributions from the American Trial Lawyers Association goes to the Democrat Party, then you realize who is responsible for our medical and product costs being so high!

The Dems Are Going to Slaughter Democracy over ObamaCare

Ace of Spades posted some alarming news. Nancy Pelosi says that the Democrats are going to use the Slaughter Rule to pass the Senate ObamaCare bill and the vote is set for next week.

In case you're unfamiliar, the Slaughter Rule is named after Louise "she wore her dead sister's dentures" Slaughter and it works like this: The speaker brings a bill containing a list of changes that the House wants to make to the Senate bill to the floor for a vote. When the House members vote for and pass this list of changes to the Senate bill, the House will deem the Senate bill as passed as well, even though the Senate bill itself was never voted on to begin with.

Apparently Pelosi feels comfortable enough calling for the vote next week because she's been pretty successful peeling away enough of Stupak's bloc.

Nice, huh? The American people hate this bill so much that this is the only way Nancy Pelosi can get the bill out of the House and onto the president's desk. And if the House can get the wildly unpopular ObamaCare passed in this way, what's to stop them from doing this with every other bill that is unpopular with the American people?

I guess there are a lot of Democratic members of the House up for reelection in November who feel ready to retire.

Update: Robert Costa at The Corner has a long post about Bart Stupak and how his pro-life bloc of Democrats are going wobbly on the issue of life. It's a compelling view of the cynicism and nastiness of Washington, particularly from the Democrats who Stupak says want to fund abortions so they can better control and reduce the number of people who will need government funded health care. (Those who are inclined to get their panties in a bunch need to know this: there is a history of using abortion for controlling populations. Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger for the express purpose of limiting certain groups of people that she felt were a drain on society and, therefore, unworthy of life.) Here's a portion of Costa's post:

Stupak notes that his negotiations with House Democratic leaders in recent days have been revealing. "I really believe that the Democratic leadership is simply unwilling to change its stance," he says. "Their position says that women, especially those without means available, should have their abortions covered." The arguments they have made to him in recent deliberations, he adds, "are a pretty sad commentary on the state of the Democratic party."

What are Democratic leaders saying? "If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. That's one of the arguments I've been hearing," Stupak says. "Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue -- come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life we're talking about."

"Throughout this debate, even when the House leaders have acknowledged us, it's always been in a backhanded way," he laments. "I'm telling the others to hold firm, and we'll meet next week, but I'm disappointed in my colleagues who said they'd be with us and now they're not. It's almost like some right-to-life members don't want to be bothered. They just want this over."

And the politics of the issue are pretty rough. "This has really reached an unhealthy stage," Stupak says. "People are threatening ethics complaints on me. On the left, they're really stepping it up. Every day, from Rachel Maddow to the Daily Kos, it keeps coming. Does it bother me? Sure. Does it change my position? No."

So, this is what the Democratic party has been reduced to: threatening to file ethics complaints against a member in order to force him to vote in a way that violates his conscience and his constituents' wishes. This is your party leadership at work, Democrats. Proud?

When I read that Stupak said the pro-lifers in his bloc "just want this over," it triggered in my mind the image of a person so ravaged and worn down by disease that he can't go on even another day. The disease has overtaken his body to the point that he knows it has beaten him and death is imminent. Now he just wants it over.

It seems the leftists in the House have worn down the weaker members of Stupak's bloc in much the same way. For many of these Democrats, their political lives are on the line because they come from more conservative districts. The pressure that Pelosi and the other House Dems have placed on them caused them to fold and now they are succumbing to what will probably result in their political deaths.

House Health-Care Proposal Adds $600 Billion in Taxes (Update-2)

What we are looking at:

$600 Billion in tax increases and $400 Billion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid as the number of Babyboomers added to the rolls increases daily… while we already owe a Trillion in interest on the money the government (Obama Administration) has already borrowed and printed to this point, before this nationalized health-care proposal.

June 12 (Bloomberg) -- Health-care overhaul legislation being drafted by House Democrats will include $600 billion in tax increases and $400 billion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel said.

Democrats will work on the bill’s details next week as they struggle through “what kind of heartburn” it will cause to agree on how to pay for revamping the health-care system, Rangel, a New York Democrat, said today. The measure’s cost is reaching well beyond the $634 billion President Barack Obama proposed in his budget request to Congress as a 10-year down payment for the policy changes.

Asked whether the cost of a health-care overhaul would be more than $1 trillion over a decade, Rangel said, “the answer is yes.” Some Senate Republicans, including Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, say the costs will likely exceed $1.5 trillion.

House Democrats plan to release their legislation next week. Obama is working with Congress to get legislation to his desk by October.

Democrats in the House and Senate are crafting legislation that would require all Americans to have health insurance, prohibit insurers from refusing to cover pre-existing conditions and place other restrictions on the industry.

Online Exchanges

The legislation would establish online exchanges for individuals to purchase insurance and would require employers to provide health benefits to workers or pay a penalty. Some Democrats also are backing creation of a government-run program to expand coverage to the uninsured. The issue is the subject of bipartisan negotiations with Republican who oppose the so-called public option.

Rangel said Democrats are still considering options for tax increases that might be in the bill, including a possible end to the income tax exclusion for employer-paid health benefits.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, a Montana Democrat, is considering a proposal to apply income taxes to health-care plans if they are significantly more expensive than the basic health plan for federal employees -- $13,000 for a family of four.

Rangel said House Democrats want to avoid the deeper cuts to projected spending under Medicare and Medicaid that Obama has been putting forth. House Democrats want to achieve cost-savings by cuts in payments to private insurance plans under Medicare.

Covering the Costs

Obama has pledged that health-care changes won’t add to the deficit. To accomplish that, he’s proposed getting about $600 billion by reducing tax deductions available to the wealthy, and by trimming Medicare payments to insurance companies.

That won’t be enough to cover the overhaul costs. Obama said this week he plans in the coming days to disclose more proposals for raising “additional sources of revenue.” In a letter last week to Senate Democrats drafting legislation he said he will be proposing between $200 billion and $300 billion in further Medicare and Medicaid cuts.

Obama plans to give a speech Monday in Chicago to the American Medical Association as part of his campaign to build up support for what could be the biggest changes to healthcare policy since Medicare was established in 1965.

Rangel said that while House Democrats will likely release more details about health policy changes in their legislation next week, the package of offsetting tax increases and spending cuts likely will come later. Democrats, he said, want to put forth the more-positive aspects of an overhaul first. Rangel also wants to let lawmakers have time to study and weigh in on proposed offsets.

“We have a problem in not wanting to attract enough negative attention to the bill in terms of the pay-fors,” he said. “Let them get a good feel for the coverage.”

Where Were You??? - Supporting Those Around You Who Are Standing Up, Being Successful or Making a Difference

Many years ago a young lady who was attending a seminar shared an interesting story with me. Apparently she and two or three of her girlfriends went and tried out for a place in a stage play. She got the starring role while her girlfriends were not even picked for the supporting cast. Opening night she said she was really excited but afterwards became very disappointed when her girlfriends never came out and supported her. She was explaining the situation to an elderly friend of her fathers named Hap. He wrote her a letter and she gave me a copy with her permission to share it with others.

Read it carefully and think.

Dear Ann,

Once upon a time there was a fellow by the name of Al Capp who wrote a comic strip called "L'll Abner." Many years ago he had some characters in his strip who lived in a town near Dogpatch. They were the town bums, the n'er do wells, the failures whose whole aim in life was to pass judgment on others. Their criticism and ridicule became so vehement that in time the rest of the people in the town became acutely conscious of it. "The boys down at the stable," as they were called because that's where they spent most of their time, soon set the social standards of the town. Nobody could do anything without their sanction.

Because they lived within the structure of their crummy little world, they would laugh and point their fingers at anyone and everyone who tried to be better than they were. As a result the people feared the ridicule of the boys down at the stable so much that they stopped trying. Soon everybody became bums and the town died.

In every social structure, Ann, whether it be family, town, county or state, there are "The boys down at the stable." They are the jealous ones. They are too scared to try something different. They show their ignorance by laughing at those who do. Learn to recognize them Ann, for what they are. Don't let them hurt you. It takes a certain amount of toughness to succeed. One has to rise above those who would tear you down so that they can laugh and say, "I told you so!"

There are too many of us who love you and want you to make it. I could put myself at the top of the list. You aren't going to fall flat on your face as they would have you. You are going to do a superb job. Remember this show is only a small step in the direction of greater things you will do, many of which are beyond your wildest dreams. All you have to do is want to. One of the things I like about you best is that you always give it hell for try.

The show will be a success because of you and others like you who try. There are only winners in the cast. The losers are gathered down at the stable laughing and hoping for your failure. If we could dig down deep inside them, I'm sure we'd find they want to win also, but are too scared to try, and they attempt to cover up their own failures as human beings by laughing at others. In a sense I'm sorry for them. Their guilt must make them very unhappy people.

This is where so many of us find ourselves today… not willing to fight "The boys down at the stable", too afraid or lazy to try, and not even willing to support those who are fighting the good fight for us. Many of us are not even willing to listen to an alternative news source; read a book or two to inform ourselves of what is really going on and why; or even check out a blog or two by those who are putting themselves on the line in an era where Homeland Security and ‘big intrusive government’ labels anyone who has an alternative thought as a ‘right-wing extremist’.

If there was ever a time to dig deep… get informed, get involved and stand up for the beliefs and principles you believe in, grew up with and make our Country… the United States of America, the Country people die to get into… IT IS NOW!!!!!

You are not alone! There are grassroots movements springing up all over the Country and people are writing; speaking up; talking about their fears and what is important, one-on-one and in groups; and peaceably taking to the streets: Tea Parties, Tax Revolts, Protests for Traditional American Beliefs and Rights as written in the Constitution...

Now is the time for all Americans to stand up and step out of our comfort zones!

As Ronald Reagan said, “Democracy is worth dying for, because it's the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man. And, freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”

What will you say when your children and grandchildren ask you where you were when American Democracy died and when the crippling debt they inherited from our generation was allowed to be amassed; when the once super power, America, died like the small town near Dogpatch... where everyone gave in and then gave up. - Ask Marion/Marion Algier~

THE REAL GENUFLECTION TO THE SAUDIS

When President Obama first met the Saudi royals, he seemed to bow at the waist.  Either that or he doubled over in pain.  Did he bow?  Or didn't he bow?  That was the topic du jour at the press briefing that day.

But now we have the answer:  Obama is, indeed, really bowing to the Saudis as he visits the Middle East this week.

First, he is bypassing Israel.  Visiting the Middle East and not going to Israel would be like touring North America and omitted a stop in the United States.  It only makes sense if you interpret it as a deliberate slap in the face of Jerusalem and a statement to the Arab world that America's pro-Israeli policy is changing.

But as he goes to Saudi Arabia, the United States State Department, head by Mrs. Hillary Clinton, has announced that it has accepted the ground rules for media coverage of the Obama visit to the royal family and its domain.  Reporters will only be allowed to cover the actual meetings between the Saudis and Obama and will not be permitted to visit the rest of the country or report on anything else they see during the trip.  Those reporters who violate these terms are subject to arrest and imprisonment by the Saudi government!!!
Hillary and Obama accepted these terms.

Since when does the U.S. government act as the assistant to the Saudi monarchy in charge of controlling the media?  And since when would an American president permit this shackling of the media and still proceed with the diplomatic visit without a murmur of protest?

Since when?  Since Obama became president determined to appease Iran, Saudi Arabia, the Palestinian Authority, Hamas, and all of the extremists while slighting Israel and turning his back on democracy.
Obama is outraged at those horrible Israeli settlements.  They have to go!  They are the major threat to Mid-East peace!  Not the Iranian development of nuclear weapons or its subsidization of Hamas and Hezbollah or the Saudi royal subsidies for these terror organizations or welfare payments to the families of suicide bombers.  No, it's those damn settlements.

It isn't enough if Israel promises not to build new ones.  It can't be allowed to build new homes for family members who already live there!  If junior gets married and has a family, he'd better move out back to Israel.  He can't be allowed to build his own home in the settlements.  The threat to world peace is just too grave to permit it.
The Obama Mideast policy is turning our priorities on their head.  It is painful to watch and it is likely to bet worse until Americans get a fundamental point:  Obama is determined to end sixty years of support for Israel and this trip to the Middle East is the start of it.
