Rep. Thaddeus McCotter Resigns from Congress

He was one of the good guys.

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter resigns from Congress

Michigan Republican Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, who launched a short-lived White House bid in 2011, announced Friday that he was resigning from Congress, citing personal family issues.

"After nearly 26 years in elected office, this past nightmarish month and a half have, for the first time, severed the necessary harmony between the needs of my constituency and of my family," McCotter said in a statement. "As this harmony is required to serve, its absence requires I leave."

In March, McCotter failed to acquire the necessary amount of signatures to appear on the party's primary ballot to represent his district near Detroit. He initially launched a write-in campaign, but announced last month he would end his efforts, choosing instead to retire from Congress when his term ended in January 2013.

He was first elected in 2002.

Here's the full statement of his resignation, which McCotter posted on his Facebook page Friday afternoon:

"Today I have resigned from the office of United States Representative for Michigan's 11th Congressional District.

After nearly 26 years in elected office, this past nightmarish month and a half have, for the first time, severed the necessary harmony between the needs of my constituency and of my family. As this harmony is required to serve, its absence requires I leave.

The recent event's totality of calumnies, indignities and deceits have weighed most heavily upon my family. Thus, acutely aware one cannot rebuild their hearth of home amongst the ruins of their U.S. House office, for the sake of my loved ones I must "strike another match, go start anew" by embracing the promotion back from public servant to sovereign citizen.

I do not leave for an existing job and face diminishing prospects (and am both unwilling and ill-suited to lobby), my priorities are twofold: find gainful employment to help provide for my family; and continue to assist, in any way they see fit, the Michigan Attorney General's earnest and thorough investigation, which I requested, into the 2012 petition filing.

While our family takes this step into the rest of our lives, we do so with the ultimate confidence in our country's future. True, as at other times in the life of our nation, we live in an Age of Extremes that prizes intensity over sanity; rhetoric over reality; and destruction over creation. But this too shall pass, thanks to the infinite, inspired wisdom of the sovereign people who, with God's continued blessings, will again affirm for the generations American Exceptionalism.

Truly, it is a challenging and fortunate time to live in our blessed sanctuary of liberty.

In closing, to The People of Michigan's 11th Congressional District, I can but say this: Thank you for the privilege of having worked for you."

Newt Gingrich calls for a complete audit of the Federal Reserve

And Happy Birthday Ron Paul. Ron turned a young 76 on 8.19.11.

Perry, Bachmann, Romney Separate Themselves From 2012 GOP Pack… Prediction:  Palin Will Announce in September and That Will Be Your Serious Field for the Nomination (unless Christie gets and then the will be 5):  Palin, Perry, Bachmann and Romney – Paul, Cain, McCotter and Santorum will keep it interesting and have some good ideas and input but I think they are either too weak or too much on the fringe to get the nomination.  Huntsman and Gingrich are already out… they just won’t admit it to themselves!

The GOP’s biggest challenge is not to chew each other up beyond repair. Because in the end, no matter who gets the GOP nomination, the goal has to be to vote and defeat Barrack Obama!!

Bilderberg and GOP attempts to redistrict Ron Paul out of Office - Infowars

GOP Establishment Attempting To Redistrict Ron Paul Out Of Office

Steve Watson  -  Prisonplanet.com  -  June 3, 2011

A Democratic consultant tells the Texas Tribune that it is no coincidence that a proposed congressional redistricting map would significantly alter District 14, the seat firmly held by Ron Paul for the last fourteen years.

The proposed redistricting (see image) would add 300, 000 new voters to district 14, encompassing areas previously dominated by pro-labor, pro-government, New Deal Democrat Jack Brooks, a philosophical and political polar opposite to Ron Paul.

“This is clearly a shot taken by the Republican establishment against the hero of the tea party,” Democratic operative Jeff Crosby says.

“By giving him more than 300,000 new voters, it’s clear the Republican establishment doesn’t want Ron Paul to come back after he finishes his race for president.”

The changes would see the entirety of Jefferson County moved to Ron Paul’s jurisdiction, encompassing the city of Beaumont. A larger portion of Galveston County would also be shifted into the district.

Ron Paul has held district 14 since 1997. The area is is larger than the state of Massachusetts and covers some 22 counties. It is predominantly made up of rural land used for ranching and farming.

The Congressman spends a great deal of time in the area and frequently travels around the huge district, which can involve round trips of over 300 miles.

Paul has acted as a constant thorn in the side of the party establishment, consistently and strictly voting in line with the Constitution, rather than towing the party line.

Democrats have criticized the newly proposed congressional map, charging that it dilutes minority voting strength in Texas.

A Spokesman for Texas Governor Rick Perry told reporters that “The governor is confident that a map will be passed.” Any Congressional district alterations must first be approved by federal authorities.

On the Democratic side, Paul’s closest ally Dennis Kucinich is facing the prospect of losing his district altogether with immediate effect in Ohio, following the state’s loss of two House seats.

Kucinich has intimated that he may run for Congress in Washington state if this likely scenario unfolds.
