Government doctors abandon their oath and target the public they serve

"Primum nil nocere." First, do no harm. This bedrock principle in medicine is a foreign language to most politicians and, sadly, to some Wisconsin doctors, who have violated their oath and the public trust as they have defrauded Wisconsin taxpayers.

Several University of Wisconsin family physicians donned their sacred white coats and were caught distributing fraudulent "sick notes" free for the asking quite literally by the boxful - I wonder who paid for that printing - to teachers and others who skipped work to engage in political protest at the state Capitol in Madison. Whatever the merits of the teachers' protest, there's a word for what these doctors and teachers are perpetrating: fraud.
An army of citizen-journalist bloggers, including Tim Daniels of Left Coast Rebel and Ann Althouse, captured and publicized photographs and video allegedly of publicly funded University of Wisconsin doctors Kathy A. Oriel, James H. Shropshire, Lou Sanner, Hannah M. Keevil, Patrick McKenna and Elizabeth Kvach as they disseminated these fraudulent notes to Wisconsin's publicly funded teachers so the teachers could have a publicly funded day off.

"I'm a doctor. Need a note?" read one sign held high near Dr. McKenna as he openly defrauded taxpayers. "We see a lot of sore throats from speaking out, sore feet from walking, a lot of people kind of chilly, under stress. We say the best thing you can do is be with a large support group," said Dr. Sanner in a pathetic rationalization despite video confirmation that neither he nor his colleagues examined any throats or feet before making their diagnoses and issuing doctor's notes.

Meanwhile, taxpayers and students are paying dearly. According to the Department of Education, two-thirds of Wisconsin public school eighth-graders cannot read at a proficient level. And yet, while the average total compensation of a Milwaukee public school teacher is a staggering $100,005 per year, these entitled teachers demand that taxpayers pay them, quite literally, to agitate for more tax money.

If this degree of financial fraud were perpetrated against health insurance companies, the doctors would face civil and criminal charges. Taxpayers deserve at least as much protection. Concerned Wisconsinites may want to contact the Medical Examining Board at the Department of Regulation and Licensing as well as the University of Wisconsin, which, evidently, has overfunded its family practice department sufficiently to send its staff to political rallies. Finally, medical malpractice carriers certainly recognize the medi- cal-legal liability accepted by these scheming doctors inherent in each of the thousands of new doctor-patient relationships they formed. Wisconsin taxpayers, I suspect, may not think their public university should pay for that liability exposure.

These University of Wisconsin doctors have violated the very core of the Hippocratic Oath: "I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone." Providing blanket diagnoses and treatments without so much as examining a patient is a wild and dangerous departure from the standard of care. These doctors do so, in their own words, to pursue "social activism" rather than patient care.

Dr. Paul Hsieh, co-founder of Freedom and Individual Rights in Medicine, spots an alarming trend: "[A] new form of medical ethics is being taught in medical schools that tells doctors to place the needs of 'society' ahead of individual patients. At best, it forces doctors to juggle the truth and the interests of their patients alongside 'social' considerations. At worst, it will give them license to sacrifice their professional integrity (and their patients' interests) in the name of 'society.' "

Americans should brace themselves for more social activism under Obamacare. Dr. Donald Berwick, President Obama's choice to head Medicare, advocates the alarming notion that "this isolated relationship [between doctor and patient] is no longer tenable" without government intervention. Central planners will decide who is afforded treatment and how much, and their primary concerns will be dedicated to society rather than the patient.
One glaring problem, of course, is that "society" is in the eye of the beholder. The University of Wisconsin's government doctors ordained that the society of government schoolteachers should be served but the society of Wisconsin private-citizen taxpayers should not. And that is the very essence of Obamacare - under which the powerful and connected can divide America into two camps: those who will find favor and those who will not.
Ordinary Americans who play by the rules and don't have special political connections deserve to be a part of "society," too. Thus read one sign displayed by a hardworking American taxpayer on the streets of Madison last weekend: "I would've come yesterday, but I had to work."

Yes, you read this correctly. Failed presidential candidate Howard Dean has collected a slush fund for the express purpose of bribing the “fleebagging” Wisconsin Democrat State Senators to remain in hiding and not report to the legislature to vote.

Without Howard Dean’s slush fund, at least some of those Democrat legislators would find it necessary to return to the legislature to pick up their paychecks in person, thus providing enough State Senators to form a quorum. A quorum is required for voting on the Budget Repair Bill proposed by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker that will require public employee union members to contribute more toward their benefits and restrict their collective bargaining privileges. The Republicans have enough votes in the State Senate to enact that legislation without delay.

A recent article in American Spectator follows the money to expose the flagrant corruption associated with this slush fund. However, like many articles in the media and the blogosphere, it stops short of drawing the necessary conclusion from the facts that it has established. The article talks about this slush fund as though it were nothing more than a campaign contribution that is well over the legal limit in amount. The article even admits that there is no election coming up in the near future for which the “fleebaggers” would need to collect campaign funds. It also shows that the funds are instead being used for lavish travel expenditures, thus rewarding the “fleebaggers” for their gross dereliction of duty.

It is time to stop pussyfooting around and start calling things what they are.

This slush fund is no campaign contribution. It’s naked bribery. Howard Dean is paying the Wisconsin “fleebaggers” to stay away from the legislature so as to block the enactment of legislation that Howard Dean wants blocked.

The offering, giving, receiving, or soliciting of something of value for the purpose of influencing the action of an official in the discharge of his or her public or legal duties.

The expectation of a particular voluntary action in return is what makes the difference between a bribe and a private demonstration of goodwill. To offer or provide payment in order to persuade someone with a responsibility to betray that responsibility is known as seeking Undue Influence over that person’s actions. When someone with power seeks payment in exchange for certain actions, that person is said to be peddling influence. Regardless of who initiates the deal, either party to an act of bribery can be found guilty of the crime independently of the other.

A bribe can consist of immediate cash or of personal favors, a promise of later payment, or anything else the recipient views as valuable. When the U.S. military threatened to cancel a Texas relocation company’s contracts to move families to and from military bases, the company allegedly gave four representatives in Congress an all-expenses-paid weekend in Las Vegas in January 1989, and $2,500 in speaking fees. The former president of the company was indicted by a federal Grand Jury in 1994 on bribery charges for both gifts.

The American Spectator: Howard Dean and the $100,000 Wisconsin Slush Fund

You can call them “Dean Dollars.”

Former Vermont Governor and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, a one-time presidential candidate, is the founder of a group that by mid-day of President’s Day had raised over $100,000 in a slush fund to “back” the on-the-lam Wisconsin Democratic State Senators.

The Dean Dollars are being specifically funneled to the Wisconsin State Senate Democratic Committee (SSDC) — an apparent violation of Wisconsin election law that pointedly says, according to the Wisconsin Election Board’s Legal Counsel in a 2005 decision, that the “SSDC may not accept a contribution of more than $6,000 from a single committee in a calendar year.” (Note: the Election Board is now called the “Wisconsin Government Accountability Board.”)

The money, requested in an e-mail obtained over the weekend by The American Spectator, is being solicited in $14 dollar contributions through the Dean-founded million-member “Democracy for America” grassroots organizing group chaired by Dean’s brother Jim. There are no prohibitions on more generous donations of any amount. The funds are being collected through the left-wing “Act Blue” fundraising website, which identifies itself as “the online clearinghouse for Democratic action.”

The $14 dollar solicitation is symbolic — as in one dollar for every one of the fourteen Democrats in the Wisconsin State Senate. All of whom have now fled the state in a political battle royal over budget cuts and collective bargaining rights for public employees with the newly elected Republican Governor. On Monday, the Huffington Post quoted Senator Tim Carpenter, one of the fourteen, as saying of the decision to remain out of state: “We’ll be here until Gov. Walker decides that he wants to talk.”

Carpenter made no mention of who was paying his expenses.

The slush fund revelation comes on the heels of the discovery by both Fox News reporter Mike Tobin and the Wisconsin-based John K. MacIver Public Policy Institute of an organized effort by some Wisconsin doctors — who were deliberately handing out “doctor’s notes” to teachers feigning illness in order to protest the governor’s legislative plans. Which would be fraud, if proven in court. The Fox report uncovered at least one doctor connection to the presumably taxpayer-funded University of Wisconsin Family Medical Program. The MacIver video, posted over the weekend by my American Spectator colleague Philip Klein, is a particularly stunning depiction of both teachers and doctors quite publicly engaged in what appears to be outright fraud, a question raised by one reporter to an angrily defensive doctor on the MacIver video.

And since many people own property in more than one location and pay taxes to numerous government entities, they would be afforded the opportunity to vote in multiple locations.

Amnesty: Disguised once again by euphemisms like "comprehensive immigration reform," amnesty will create millions of new Democrat voters. As Obama adviser and SEIU executive vice president Eliseo Medina said recently regarding amnesty: "Can you imagine 8 million new voters who care about our issues and will be voting? We will be creating a governing coalition for the long term, not just for an election cycle."

Convicted felons voting: The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals late last year cleared the way for inmates to vote from prison. The court overturned a Washington state law prohibiting felons from voting until they are released and off parole, arguing state restrictions unfairly penalized minorities since they have a higher incarceration rate. Polls show felons overwhelmingly prefer Democrats.

Planting operatives in America's statehouses: A subversive, Soros-backed group called the Secretary of State Project is gearing up to steal the 2012 election for Obama and congressional Democrats by installing left-wing Democrats as secretaries of state across the nation, from which posts they can help tilt the electoral playing field.

"This is just a taste of the astonishing revelations in March's Whistleblower edition," said Kupelian. "It gets much worse."

Harry Reid Blocks ACORN Investigation Despite Evidence… Why?

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is blocking an investigation into ACORN despite the mountain of evidence of wide spread wrong doing.

…ACORN’s 2008 Las Vegas field director, Christopher Edwards, pleaded guilty last spring to two gross misdemeanor counts of conspiracy to commit compensation for registration of voters, in a deal that saw him agree to testify against fellow defendants.

Fox News’ Eric Shawn reported there were at least 11 investigations across the country involving thousands of potentially fraudulent ACORN forms. Yet none of this was sufficient to block President Obama and his congressional minions from upping federal subsidies to outfits such as Mr. Obama’s former associates at ACORN from the mere millions to the billions of dollars in their “economic stimulus” bill last winter.

Only when presented with the undeniable evidence of the “pimp and ho” videotape did the IRS last week announce it would terminate ACORN’s participation in the agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program — shortly after the Census Bureau advised ACORN it could forget about helping with its decennial head count.

Smoke? Fire? Washington Democratic leaders have opted to just lay low and not smell nothin’.

Despite all this evidence and a request in writing by 28 GOP senators — and despite the fact the U.S. Senate voted 83-7 on Sept. 14 to block ACORN from bidding for any more federal grant money — “Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is refusing to hold a Senate hearing on ACORN’s activities,” the National Republican Senatorial Committee complained Wednesday.

Mr. Reid replied additional investigations might distract lawmakers from addressing more important matters, including health care and economic recovery.

“It’s become increasingly clear that ACORN may have manipulated tens of thousands of ballots in last year’s federal election — an area where Congress has clear oversight responsibilities — yet Harry Reid won’t lift a finger,” said NRSC spokesman Brian Walsh. “It’s hard to see his latest roadblock as anything but another example of Harry Reid protecting his liberal allies in Washington while remaining out of touch with his constituents in Nevada.”

That’s a politically motivated shot, of course. Stripped of the gratuitous elbowing, however, the question does remain: Do Sen. Reid and congressional Democrats really believe that if they just ignore the big mess their pet bear has dumped in the middle of the room, it’ll somehow stop stinking?

Majority Leader Harry Reid rebuffed a Republican request that he call Senate hearings and an investigation into recent allegations against the scandal-tainted community organizing group ACORN.
Reid, D-Nev., said Tuesday that he would not ask the Senate committee chairmen or Congress “to do anything that would distract from efforts to address” health care, climate change, an overhaul of the nation’s financial regulatory system and oversight of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. (More like he doesn’t want his connections made public and wants to be re-elected!)

Fall of the House of CORN

The disintegration of ACORN continues, with new allegations that the group was using donor money to enrich itself in a “reverse Robin Hood” scheme. This follows the astonishing undercover work of Andrew Breitbart’s Big Government and its intrepid young reporters, James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, who videotaped some legally flexible “community organizing” from the group. Before Big Government nailed them on video, the group was infamous for pushing the legislation, and irresponsible lending, that caused the subprime crisis, and widespread vote fraud operations. ACORN is one of the few enemies of the American taxpayer that wasn’t invited to speak before the United Nations on Wednesday.

ACORN has decided to silence its critics by suing them. Hannah Giles has opened a legal defense fund. The Big Government web site reports a fund for O’Keefe is coming soon. If you’re a U.S. taxpayer, you’ve already donated to ACORN’s legal defense fund. ACORN has received at least $58 million of your tax dollars since 1994, and congressional Democrats tried to stuff billions in “stimulus” dollars into their pockets.

Direct tax funding is not the only way you’ve paid for ACORN, either. They generate a great deal of their income by shaking down businesses in political protection rackets, and the businesses naturally pass those costs along to their consumers. And, of course, ACORN was a big player in the subprime mortgage collapse, which left you on the hook for billions of dollars in bad mortgages. If you add all this up, you probably spent more on ACORN last year than you spent going to the movies. (Full Article)

Frank Marshall Davis, a communist and Obama’s mentor, was under FBI investigation for 19 years and moved from Chicago to Hawaii in 1948, leaving behind a colleague named Vernon Jarrett. Both wrote for a leftwing newspaper called the Chicago Defender. In 1971, Davis was introduced to a 9 year-old Barack Obama and mentored him for 9 years.
Oh, and in addition to Frank Marshall Davis being a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), he wrote pornogrpahic books that even delved into child molestation. One book in particular, 'SEX REBEL' did just that.

For starters, he's the late father-in-law of Barack's most trusted confidant, Valerie Jarrett, who was also the alleged "Senatorial Candidate #1" for Obama's soon-to-be vacated Senate seat when Patrick Fitzgerald announced the investigation back in December. Ok, so the father-in-law of the woman identified as the other side of Barack's brain was a colleague of Obama's childhood mentor.

That's what we call one degree of separation. What about Jarrett's mother?

Jarrett's mother, Barbara Taylor Bowman (pictured kissing Barack) was on a Board with the father of another notorious figure according to Loudon.

Much of what Loudon writes about was also covered in his June 1st post, which I COVERED HERE. However, he now has new information on the connections of Valerie Jarrett's mother and none other than Bill Ayers' father, Tom Ayers.

Valerie Bowman's marriage to Vernon Jarrett's late son only lasted five years but the Bowman and Jarrett families had been life long friends.

Valerie Jarrett's mother, early childhood education author, Barbara Taylor, Bowman also has some interesting connections.

For several years she has run the Chicago based Erikson Institute. An early Erikson board member was Chicago businessman and "liberal" activist Tom Ayers-father of Weather Underground terrorist leader and long time Obama colleague Bill Ayers, in whose living room Obama began his political career

Bernardine Dohrn, wife of Bill and reputedly the real leader of Weather Underground has also served on the Erikson board in recent years.

Think about this for a moment. In addition to Barack Obama serving on a Board with Bill Ayers, the mother of Obama's most trusted political confidant (Valerie Jarrett) served on a Board with Bill Ayers' father (along with Ayers' wife Bernadine Dohrn). As if that weren't enough, Valerie Jarrett's father-in-law was a close colleague of Barack Obama's Communist mentor, Frank Marshall Davis.
Loudon then quotes Bill Ayers from page 82 of his own book showing reverence for Valerie Jarrett's mother.

"Just south I see the Robert Taylor Homes named for the first head of the Chicago Housing Authority, whose daughter, a neighbor and friend is president of the Erikson Institute."

Sounds like Bowman may have viewed Ayers as someone more than just "a guy in the neighborhood." Be sure to read the WHOLE THING because there is definitely more.

FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS AND THE JARRETT FAMILY

Let's face it. The reason Van Jones is no longer the Green Czar is primarily due to Glenn Beck's doggedness. Secondarily, bloggers like Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit posting more pieces to the puzzle with the help of every day citizens sending him videos, images, and web links outing Jones' radical past.

Now what?

The template has been created. Beck needs to identify another radical (shouldn't be hard to do) and be relentless about exposing him / her like he did with Jones. Perhaps Beck will target CASS SUNSTEIN, who wants to regulate the internet and allow animals to retain attorneys. Or maybe Science Czar JOHN HOLDREN who has written about sterilization, forced abortions, and population control in general.

Personally, I'd like to see Beck go after FCC Diversity Czar MARK LLOYD who is a big fan of shutting down private broadcasters by taxing them out of business. Lloyd may be the easiest target as he is on tape saying some very outlandish things, to include championing the efforts of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.

But maybe there's someone a little closer to Obama's inner circle that should begin to feel a little heat. On June 1st, New Zealand blogger TREVOR LOUDON wrote that he has conclusive evidence that Barack Obama's communist mentor, Frank Marshall Davis was a colleague of Valerie Jarrett's father-in-law Vernon Jarrett. Valerie has been identified by some as "Barack's Rock" or "The Other half of Barack's Brain". If you remember, she was also the alleged Senate candidate #1 to fill Obama's vacated seat that ultimately went to Roland Burris. Had Blagojevich been a little less unstable, Jarrett very well may be a sitting Senator right now.

What Loudon uncovered is truly amazing.

Frank Marshall Davis works closely in communist causes with Vernon Jarrett in Chicago. Davis moves to hawaii where he eventually meets and mentors a young Barack Obama. Then Obama moves to Chicago where his career is promoted by both Davis's old colleague Vernon Jarrett and the Communist Party. Vernon Jarrett's daughter-in-law employs Barack Obama's fiance, befriends the family and becomes one of President Obama's most trusted advisors. The Communist Party throws its entire weight behind Obama's presidential campaign.

This story is nearly four months old but it is still fresh if someone like Beck picks it up.

If we learned anything about the events leading up to the resignation of Jones, it's that everyone needs to work together to expose some very radical and dangerous individuals Barack Obama has surrounded himself with.

Rule 11: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it. Don’t try to attack abstract corporations or bureaucracies. Identify a responsible individual. Ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame.

This administration is reeling and it is NO TIME to let up. Pick a Czar and expose him / her.

VIDEO: WILL VAN BE THROWN UNDER BUS?

If there's one thing we've learned about Mr. Obama it's that he's not a fan of being associated with radioactive situations (though he seems to find himself close to a lot of them). When the heat gets a little too close, he's been known to cast aside its human source.
His Green Jobs Czar Van Jones appears to be exposing himself as being an unstable nucleus within the Obama machine. Bill Ayers at least learned how to tone down his rhetoric from 40 years ago and has apparently done so well at hiding his true beliefs that he became a professor at a major university.

Van Jones? Eh, not so much. There is a lot of unflattering video and audio coming out on Jones these days that show him as an angry radical Marxist. A big problem for Jones is that the stuff surfacing is not that old. His son being named after a radical African Marxist might be excusable if his offspring eclipsed the legal drinking age a while back. But alas, Cabral is not even old enough to go to kindergarten.

Now this latest installment is from a quaint little outfit called, "Uprising Radio" in which Jones was interviewed in April, 2008 (yes, a year ago).

Things to listen for:

Listen as Van explains the difference between "minimum goals" and "maximum goals". It's all about instrumentalism, something Barack is a big fan of. You don't want to eat the entire apple in one bite. He's talking about incremental revolution by making sure minimum goals have (I love this metaphor) a "radical kernel".
Note also what he says about the green economy. "push it. push it. push it." Straight out of Saul Alinsky. Rule #8: Keep the pressure on.
Valerie Jarrett makes an appearance in this video as well. She is an advocate for Van Jones. Remember her? Obama's alleged preferred Senate seat replacement that ultimately went to Roland Burris.

When people from Cuba, Venezuela, El Salvador, Honduras, the former USSR, etc who both live in the United States or not ask, “What is wrong with Americans? How can they not hear the true meaning of the words and read between the lines…? We learned to listen to every word!”, you really start to wonder. When you hold a meeting on healthcare and a little old lady pulls up her sleeve, pointing to a concentration camp tattoo and says, “It is happening again and again nobody is noticing”, you really do have to shake your head! In fact, a cold shutter should be running down your spin!

There were people who heard the words, felt the shutters and did their homework who realized that Obama was nowhere near a moderate and was never going to govern from the center, but most of America was swept away by the Charisma and chants of Hope and Change… that is why the left chose Barrack Hussein Obama!

In addition to Obama’s own words, his voting record, and the hints like his connections with Bill Ayers and Reverend Wright, that kept appearing, Dreams from My Father, The Audacity of Hope, The Obama Nation, The Case Against Barack Obama, Welcome to Obamaland, The Plan were all available and screaming to be read.

Did you mom every say: “If it looks like a red donkey, smells like a red donkey, acts like a red donkey and hangs out with red donkeys… guess what? It is a red donkey!!!!” Well, if it looks like a radical, smells like a radical, acts like a radical and hangs out with radicals… its a radical!!!!!!!

“If you want to know who I am… look at the people I surround myself with.” … Barack Hussein Obama. This is your answer… The only question is: “Do you want to live in the United States you grew up in governed by a Constitution of, by and for the people? Do we want BARACK OBAMA, NANCY PELOSI, and HARRY REID to completely rewrite our most basic document of law? The convention could make its own rules and set its own agenda." This means that, even if supporters of a "Con Con" claim that the convention would only cover one issue -- whether it's a balanced budget amendment or removing the requirement that to be eligible to serve as President, one must be a "natural born citizen," or anything else -- there is NO WAY to stop the Convention from changing EVERYTHING that we hold dear in America! Barack Obama and his far-left supporters would be able to get THEIR people appointed as delegates to the Convention, so that THEIR agendas would be the Convention's agenda, and THEIR plans for socialism in America would come to pass. Say BYE-BYE to the First Amendment's freedom of speech -- Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and others could be taken off the air. (You will hear only one side or what you are being fed). Say BYE-BYE to the Second Amendment's right to bear arms -- a total gun ban could be the law of the land! Thirty-two states have already issued a call for a "Con Con" over the last few decades, including Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming. It only takes 34 states to REQUIRE a Constitutional Convention be convened! Some states, like Georgia, Virginia, and others, have since voted to "rescind" their call for a "Con Con" -- BUT no one is sure whether those "rescission" votes are actually Constitutional...so the danger is REAL! WE NEED YOUR HELP, RIGHT NOW, TO STOP BARACK OBAMA AND HIS ALLIES FROM CHANGING THE U.S. CONSTITUTION: CLICK HERE NOW! The 1787 Convention is the only precedent we have for a national Constitutional Convention. There's no guarantee that all of the changes to our Constitution passed at a Constitutional Convention would need to be ratified by 34 states this time -- if a "Con Con" can change our structure of government as defined in Articles I, II, and III, of the Constitution, then it can also change the Article V requirement that three-fourths of the states are needed to ratify any changes. The Convention of 1787 reduced the number of states required to ratify a change from 100% of the states to 75%, and a Convention today could "follow their example" and reduce it further, to 66%, or 60%, or even 51%! WE MUST NOT LET THIS HAPPEN! There's very little time to ramp this project up to FULL SPEED -- we need to raise at least $100,000 to prepare and distribute legal opinions, lobby state legislators and begin our grassroots activism campaign this coming month. Olympic-sized boondoggle: What Valerie Jarrett and Michelle Obama are up to??

In Culture of Corruption, I spotlight the intimate relationship between Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s crony lawyer Valerie Jarrett and First Lady Michelle Obama.

Jarrett’s slum lord record in Chicago is highly relevant to her current and ongoing pursuit of Chicago’s 2016 Olympic bid — which will cost taxpayers nearly $5 billion and bring an untold windfall to developers and contractors.

From my chapter on Jarrett’s role as president and CEO of The Habitat Company, which the Boston Globe probed in a rare, non-fluffy look at the Obama’s consigliere:

In an uncommonly hard-hitting investigative piece, the Boston Globe’s Binyamin Appelbaum blew the whistle on the rodent-infested, sewage-clogged Chicago slums run by the Obamas’ most trusted confidante. Jarrett refused to answer any questions about Grove Parc, “citing what she called a continuing duty to Habitat’s former business partners.” A “continuing duty,” presumably, to whitewash the inconvenient truth about the failed public-private partnerships the Obamas continue to promote in the White House:

“They are rapidly displacing poor people, and these companies are profiting from this displacement,” said Matt Ginsberg-Jaeckle of Southside Together Organizing for Power, a community group that seeks to help tenants stay in the same neighborhoods.

“The same exact people who ran these places into the ground,” the private companies paid to build and manage the city’s affordable housing, “now are profiting by redeveloping them.”

In 2006, while Valerie Jarrett was executive vice president of Grove Parc’s management firm Habitat Company, federal inspectors graded the condition of the complex a bottom-of-the-barrel 11 on a 100-point scale. Another Habitat-mismanaged property called Lawndale Restoration was so run-down that city officials urged the federal government to take over the complex.

Jamie Kalven, a veteran Chicago housing activist, told the Boston Globe about Barack Obama: “I hope there is not much predictive value in his history and in his involvement with that community.” Kalven’s hopes will likely be dashed. As Chicago goes, so goes the nation. Obama has made a career of rewarding failure and no amount of overhyped “Hope” will change that. He sponsored a plethora of bills in the state Senate benefitting affordable housing developers. In February 2009, he unveiled a plan to set up a $1 billion Housing Trust Fund “to rehabilitate housing in the nation’s poorest neighborhoods.” “Trust Fund?” Try slush fund, bottomless pit, and eternal stimulus for the real estate moguls posing as saviors of urban America.

In one of those endless Chicago coincidences, Grove Parc Plaza Apartments—now targeted for demolition as a result of years of neglect by Obama’s developer friends—sits in the shadows of the proposed site of the city’s 2016 Olympics Stadium. Valerie Jarrett is vice chair of Chicago’s Olympics committee.

Ever since the Obamas moved to 1600 Pennsylvania, Jarrett has used her power to boost her old pal and employer Mayor Richard Daley’s bid for the Olympics.

Now, FLOTUS is getting in on the act and Jarrett is giddy:

A top White House adviser said first lady Michelle Obama is planning to make a dramatic presentation when she offers the closing argument for the bid by her hometown of Chicago to win the 2016 Summer Olympics.

“There won’t be a dry eye in the room,” said Valerie Jarrett, who plans to travel with the first lady to Copenhagen for the Oct. 2 International Olympic Committee vote.

“I’m sure that it will touch the hearts of each of the IOC members,” Jarrett, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, said today in an interview.

Jarrett declined to say what the first lady will tell the IOC. The stakes are high because winning the games would be an economic boost nationally, as well as for Chicago, she said.

“It will be a huge economic engine for Chicago, but it will have a ripple effect throughout the country,” Jarrett said, adding that U.S. corporations have voiced support for Chicago’s bid.

That’s the same bogus economic development propaganda government cronies always use for taxpayer-funded corporate welfare(boondoggles I’ve consistently opposed whether championed by Democrats or Republicans, by the way.)

As sports subsidy watchdog Neil deMause properly characterizes the Olympic pursuit:

“The winner gets to be on the hook for billions in dollars worth of velodromes and infrastructure; the losers get to watch on TV for free.”

Crook County will make out like bandits if Jarrett and the First Crony get their way.

I advise the International Olympic Committee to think long and hard about bringing the games to the fetid swamplands of Blago, Rezko & pay-for-play peddlers.

First Lady Asks GW Students for 100,000 Hours Service

First lady Michelle Obama has promised to be the 2010 Commencement speaker only if the GW community completes 100,000 hours of community service this year, University spokeswoman Michelle Sherrard said this morning.

Service hours will be counted monthly by the GW Office of Community Service, and "volunteerism, service learning, and federal work study service employment" will count toward the tally, according to a University statement. Work with AmeriCorps and other pro-bono service will be counted as well.

Obama's challenge coincides with GW's Freshman Day of Service, and the eighth anniversary of 9/11. More than 1,500 freshmen are expected to participate in the Day of Service, according to the statement.
