Anniversary of President John F. Kennedy and the Thanksgiving Countdown

I really had to look to find ‘one’ PBS Special on JFK’s Assassination today.  I think the greatest thing we can thankful for this year is the rich history and special Country we were given and in return we should spend some time discussing and sharing the real story of Thanksgiving with our families as well as traditions… and perhaps today or tomorrow talk about JFK and the challenging times and curious events surrounding his death.  (The story of Thanksgiving and JFK’s assassination that are taught these days in schools are quite different from the real events and what we were taught… all part of the purposeful dumbing down of America

The First Thanksgiving

The tradition of the Pilgrims' first Thanksgiving is steeped in myth and legend.  Few people realize that the Pilgrims did not celebrate Thanksgiving the next year, or any year thereafter, though some of their descendants later made a "Forefather's Day" that usually occurred on December 21 or 22.  Several Presidents, including George Washington, made one-time Thanksgiving holidays.  In 1827, Mrs. Sarah Josepha Hale began lobbying several Presidents for the instatement of Thanksgiving as a national holiday, but her lobbying was unsuccessful until 1863 when Abraham Lincoln finally made it a national holiday with his 1863 Thanksgiving Proclamation.

Today, our Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November.  This was set by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 (approved by Congress in 1941), who changed it from Abraham Lincoln's designation as the last Thursday in November (which could occasionally end up being the fifth Thursday and hence too close to Christmas for businesses).  But the Pilgrims' first Thanksgiving began at some unknown date between September 21 and November 9, most likely in very early October.  The date of Thanksgiving was probably set by Lincoln to somewhat correlate with the anchoring of the Mayflower at Cape Cod, which occurred on November 21, 1620 (by our modern Gregorian calendar--it was November 11 to the Pilgrims who used the Julian calendar).  

There are only two contemporary accounts of the 1621 Thanksgiving:  First is Edward Winslow's account, which he wrote in a letter dated December 12, 1621.  The complete letter was first published in 1622, and is chapter 6 of Mourt's Relation: A Journal of the Pilgrims at Plymouth.

Our corn [i.e. wheat] did prove well, and God be praised, we had a good increase of Indian corn, and our barley indifferent good, but our peas not worth the gathering, for we feared they were too late sown.  They came up very well, and blossomed, but the sun parched them in the blossom.  Our harvest being gotten in, our governor sent four men on fowling, that so we might after a special manner rejoice together after we had gathered the fruit of our labors.  They four in one day killed as much fowl as, with a little help beside, served the company almost a week.  At which time, amongst other recreations, we exercised our arms, many of the Indians coming amongst us, and among the rest their greatest king Massasoit, with some ninety men, whom for three days we entertained and feasted, and they went out and killed five deer, which they brought to the plantation and bestowed on our governor, and upon the captain and others.  And although it be not always so plentiful as it was at this time with us, yet by the goodness of God, we are so far from want that we often wish you partakers of our plenty.

The second description was written about twenty years after the fact by William Bradford in his History Of Plymouth Plantation.  Bradford's History was rediscovered in 1854 after having been taken by British looters during the Revolutionary War.  Its discovery prompted a greater American interest in the history of the Pilgrims, which eventually led to Lincoln's decision to make Thanksgiving a holiday.  It is also in this account that the Thanksgiving turkey tradition is founded.

They began now to gather in the small harvest they had, and to fit up their houses and dwellings against winter, being all well recovered in health and strength and had all things in good plenty.  For as some were thus employed in affairs abroad, others were exercising in fishing, about cod and bass and other fish, of which they took good store, of which every family had their portion.  All the summer there was no want; and now began to come in store of fowl, as winter approached, of which this place did abound when they came first (but afterward decreased by degrees).  And besides waterfowl there was great store of wild turkeys, of which they took many, besides venison, etc.  Besides they had about a peck of meal a week to a person, or now since harvest, Indian corn to that proportion.  Which made many afterwards write so largely of their plenty here to their friends in England, which were not feigned but true reports.

The Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve is a private corporation owned by a consortium of private banks. The owners are the infamous "international bankers" who have controlled western money for many centuries and who financed all sides of every war since the middle ages. Federal Reserve Notes are not really money, they are notes, debt instruments. The notes are loaned to the United States at full face value plus interest. The interest is paid by the personal income tax. This makes every American taxpayer a slave to private banking interests. It is time to end that economic slavery.

There are two options that Americans better understand and consider quickly: either nationalize the Federal Reserve or dismantle it completely!

1. Nationalize the Federal Reserve. Call it the United States Reserve. Issue United States Notes, debt free money created by the US government. Let banks that are now members of the Federal Reserve join the United States reserve and borrow as they do now from the Federal Government. Let the interest on that pay for the costs of government and government programs instead of it enriching the bankers, who do nothing for the money except manage the debt scam and much worse. 2. Who would EVER recommend that the Fed be nationalized? I'd like to see it dismantled permanently. Ron Paul explains it best :

Madame Speaker, I rise to introduce legislation to restore financial stability to America's economy by abolishing the Federal Reserve. Since the creation of the Federal Reserve, middle and working-class Americans have been victimized by a boom-and-bust monetary policy. In addition, most Americans have suffered a steadily eroding purchasing power because of the Federal Reserve's inflationary policies. This represents a real, if hidden, tax imposed on the American people.

From the Great Depression, to the stagflation of the seventies, to the current economic crisis caused by the housing bubble, every economic downturn suffered by this country over the past century can be traced to Federal Reserve policy. The Fed has followed a consistent policy of flooding the economy with easy money, leading to a misallocation of resources and an artificial "boom" followed by a recession or depression when the Fed-created bubble bursts.

With a stable currency, American exporters will no longer be held hostage to an erratic monetary policy. Stabilizing the currency will also give Americans new incentives to save as they will no longer have to fear inflation eroding their savings. Those members concerned about increasing America's exports or the low rate of savings should be enthusiastic supporters of this legislation.

Though the Federal Reserve policy harms the average American, it benefits those in a position to take advantage of the cycles in monetary policy. The main beneficiaries are those who receive access to artificially inflated money and/or credit before the inflationary effects of the policy impact the entire economy. Federal Reserve policies also benefit big spending politicians who use the inflated currency created by the Fed to hide the true costs of the welfare-warfare state. It is time for Congress to put the interests of the American people ahead of special interests and their own appetite for big government.

Abolishing the Federal Reserve will allow Congress to reassert its constitutional authority over monetary policy. The United States Constitution grants to Congress the authority to coin money and regulate the value of the currency. The Constitution does not give Congress the authority to delegate control over monetary policy to a central bank. Furthermore, the Constitution certainly does not empower the federal government to erode the American standard of living via an inflationary monetary policy.

In fact, Congress' constitutional mandate regarding monetary policy should only permit currency backed by stable commodities such as silver and gold to be used as legal tender. Therefore, abolishing the Federal Reserve and returning to a constitutional system will enable America to return to the type of monetary system envisioned by our nation's founders: one where the value of money is consistent because it is tied to a commodity such as gold. Such a monetary system is the basis of a true free-market economy.

In conclusion, Mr. Speaker, I urge my colleagues to stand up for working Americans by putting an end to the manipulation of the money supply which erodes Americans' standard of living, enlarges big government, and enriches well-connected elites, by cosponsoring my legislation to abolish the Federal Reserve.

Why Is This Idea Important?

This is important because until we end the Federal Reserve American taxpayers are enslaved to the bankers. Why should the fruits of American labor go into the pockets of the bankers instead of onto the dinner tables of the workers?

Why should these people decide which puppet will be the next American President and decide how we will live?

Thomas Jefferson said ,"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered...I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." And this is where we find ourselves… exactly in the position that Thomas Jefferson warned us about. How did we get here? Stiglitz: We Should Have Nationalized Banks

The U.S. economy is suffering because the government did not fully nationalize distressed banks, says Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz.

Nationalization would have give the government more control over financial institutions and basically forced them to lend and kick-start the economy quick into recovery, Stiglitz says.

“If we had done the right thing, we would be able to have more influence over the banks,” Stiglitz told Bloomberg News.

“They would be lending and the economy would be stronger.”

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has said that banks, which accepted billions in bailout money, need to take on more risk and lend again, which would help fuel faster economic recovery.

“We have this very strange situation today in America where we have given banks hundreds of billions of dollars and the president has to beg the banks to lend and they refuse,” Stiglitz said.

“What we did was the wrong thing. It has weakened the economy and has increased our deficit, making it more difficult for the future.”

“Too big to fail” has become a catch phrase these days as big banks, flush with bailout money, dole out bonuses while Main Street still suffers from high unemployment.

Democrats in Congress are jumping on the political opportunity to cut off the government purse strings via limiting Federal Reserve lending to bailed out banks and giving regulators more power to break up large institutions.

“No more Fed (money) to AIG. No more Fed to Bear Stearns,” says Rep. Barney Frank, according to an Associated Press report.

The Day Global Warming Stood Still

Climate Change: As scientists confirm the earth has not warmed at all in the past decade, others wonder how this could be and what it means for Copenhagen. Maybe Al Gore can Photoshop something before December.

It will be a very cold winter of discontent for the warm-mongers. The climate show-and-tell in Copenhagen next month will be nothing more than a meaningless carbon-emitting jaunt, unable to decide just whom to blame or how to divvy up the profitable spoils of climate change hysteria.

The collapse of the talks coupled with the decision by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to put off the Kerry-Boxer cap-and-trade bill, the Senate's version of Waxman-Markey, until the spring thaw has led Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe, the leading Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, to declare victory over Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and the triumph of observable fact over junk science.

"I proudly declare 2009 as the 'Year of the Skeptic,' the year in which scientists who question the so-called global warming consensus are being heard," Inhofe said to Boxer in a Senate speech. "Until this year, any scientist, reporter or politician who dared raise even the slightest suspicion about the science behind global warming was dismissed and repeatedly mocked."

Inhofe added: "Today I have been vindicated."

The Ada (Oklahoma) Evening News quotes Inhofe: "So when Barbara Boxer, John Kerry and all the left get up there and say, 'Yes. We're going to pass a global warming bill,' I will be able to stand up and say, 'No, it's over. Get a life. You lost. I won,'" Inhofe said.

Now we have the German publication Der Spiegel, which is rapidly becoming the house organ for climate hysteria, weighing in again with the sad news that the earth does not have a fever so we really don't have to throw out the baby with the rising bath water.

In an article titled, "Climatologists Baffled By Global Warming Time-Out," author Gerald Traufetter leads off with the observation: "Climatologists are baffled as to why average global temperatures have stopped rising over the last 10 years." They better figure it out, Der Spiegel warns, because "billions of euros are at stake in the negotiations."

We are told in sad tones that "not much is happening with global warming at the moment" and that "it even looks as though global warming could come to a standstill this year." But how can it be that the earth isn't following all those computer models? Is the earth goddess Gaia herself a climate change "denier"?

The article gloomily notes that a few weeks ago Britain's Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research pointed out that the earth had in fact only warmed 0.07 degree Celsius from 1999 to 2008 and not by the 0.2 degree Celsius predicted by the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

An even more inconvenient truth, according to the British experts, is that when their figures are adjusted for two naturally occurring climate phenomena, El Nino and La Nina, the resulting temperature trend is reduced to 0.0 degree Celsius. No, that's not a typo.

As if that weren't enough, it seems hackers broke into the computer network run by the Hadley Climate Research Unit, removing 61 megabytes of e-mails and data.

While we don't condone theft, the hacked data and e-mails have spilled onto the Web and reveal something startling: The scientists at Hadley, one of the world's leading climate change study centers, aren't scientifically objective at all.

Indeed, in e-mails, they boast of twisting scientific data to suit their views and to "hide" the truth. At one point, a scientist actually gloats over the death of global warming skeptic John L. Daly, saying, "In an odd way, this is cheering news."

If true, this is massive scientific fraud.

To add to the warm-mongers' woes, patron saint Al Gore, the man who claimed to have invented the Internet, might also have claimed the discovery of Photoshop. Dr. Roy Spencer, of the University of Alabama at Huntsville, formerly with NASA, has taken a look at the pictures used to illustrate Gore's new book, "Our Choice: A Plan To Solve the Climate Crisis."

Gore Photoshopped NASA imagery of the earth for the fold-out cover photo, adding four hurricanes at once, including one spinning in the wrong direction next to Florida and, in a physical impossibility, one on the equator next to Peru. Somewhere in the process, the island of Cuba was deleted.

It is the warm-mongers who are spinning in the wrong direction. We win. You lose. Get a life.

Gore prominently quotes Deuteronomy, "I’m offering you the choice of life or death."

The cover of Nobel Laureate Al Gore's new book "Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis" was intentionally doctored to exaggerate the appearance of hurricanes in the northern hemisphere as well as reduce the amount of ice present in the Arctic.

Maybe even more ominously, Florida was so diminished it's almost totally gone.

The cover opens and closes half and half — so you only see one hurricane…as in the press release photo or the one on Amazon.

But this is the real picture sequence from the book which I looked at Borders today and took cell-phone pictures, original (before the retouching by some “artist”) Note all of the Arctic ice and the size of the Florida Peninsula…

And the final product:

A midget Southern Hemisphere cyclone is off the coast of Florida, another hurricane is sitting on the equator off the coast of Peru — and the Arctic Ice is gone (perhaps it is summer) and the Florida Peninsula is half gone

Don't let your guard down just yet. There are hundreds of trillions of dollars at stake, and the true driving force behind this travesty - i.e., the let's redistribute the wealth socialists like George Soros - will not give up easily. They simply are going to make it a two-step process instead of one. What will get signed at the meeting simply paves the way for the final step later.

Here are my opinions:

"Follow the money trail..."

And there are several trails to follow.

1. Environmental activists - need to raise funds to survive, but if there isn’t a cause, there’s no funding and they would all have to go out and get real jobs that they are qualified for, like flipping burgers. The Holly Grail of causes is the totally fictitious false mantra of “Global Warming”, and it arose from the shambles of their previous attempt to spread voodoo-science Chicken Little scare tactics back in the early 70’s when they falsely claimed that our industrial emissions were contributing to a looming, global ecological catastrophe known as “Global Cooling” and that if drastic, costly measures weren’t implemented immediately, glaciers would over run Canada and the northern US by end of the (last) century. (One plan even called for dumping vast quantities of black soot on the arctic ice caps to cause the glacial ice to melt.) But the Earth didn’t cooperate, as it was busy on one of its natural cycles of slight warming (these warm-cool cycles have been going on for hundreds of millions of years prior to the arrival of the first SUV). So “Global Cooling” became Global Warming”. Yet that gosh darn stubborn ‘ol Earth still refuses to cooperate by not conforming itself to any of the voodoo-science predictive computer models and in fact it has continued along its merry way in a natural cycle of cooling for well over a decade. So the envrionuts change the disaster label to “Climate Change”, which is a good one because no one can disprove that the climate doesn’t change, as it does so by the minute. Now the envirowhackos are rolling in cash and never have to fear doing and honest day’s work in their lives. MONEY!

2. Governmental Infiltration by Environuts – who stated out doing some noble work, but soon the left took over entire agencies (just like they did the Universities, the AARP, etc.) and suddenly grant money became available to “study” the causes and impacts of Global Warming – NOT to study whether or not there was such a phenomenon as Global Warming, but instead only to substantiate its existence. They stated with the base assumption that Global Warming was a reality and then set out to prove it so, which is a complete perversion of the scientific method. Grant money was available to produce results that supported the Global Warming concept, but not to do anything that might disprove it. Many of my colleagues in the Earth sciences at that time became seduced by the lure of the grants and sold their scientific souls to join the charade. MONEY!

3. The big breakthrough for the fraudulent movement came when large corporations that really knew the Global Warming nutjobs were a disgrace to the real scientific community caved in anyway and suddenly started worshiping in the Church of Bogus Facts because they saw they could make money by doing so. “My product is greener than my competition’s products” has become one of the largest marketing ploys in modern time, as it crosses the entire spectrum of food, vehicle, appliances, household cleaning products, etc., etc. This is also when carpetbagging, snake-oil salesman, shyster and failed politician Al Gore jumped in to secure his fame, glory and future wealth by becoming the keynote huckster and posterboy of the fraud. MONEY!

4. The convenient truth for a global movement that has been festering since the 1930’s to create a utopian society in which the masses had the exact same standard of living whether they contributed to it or not and the few, powerful elite enjoyed the finer things in life that the masses provided them in exchange for baubles and trinkets (i.e., socialists, Marxists, communists, etc. failed ideologies), that fell into their laps was the Global Warming conspiracy. It became evident early on that some parts of the world, which happened to consist of nations with high standards of living because their populations were smart and industrious, contributed more emissions than other countries that lacked those inherent creative talents and missed the self–created prosperity of he industrial-train as it roared past them, didn’t contribute to emissions. So, using the false science of Global Warming, the utopians of the left initiated a campaign to make the prosperous nations feel guilty about being the sole cause of the eventual destruction of the Earth, and that all those poor nations that were innocent needed to be compensated by the bad guys for committing the crime of being prosperous and frying the Earth as a result. We now have the UN spearheading that cause, and the richest nations (we know who leads that list, don’t we boys and girls) will all have to redistribute their wealth accordingly – i.e., the standard of living of the prosperous people declines while that of the nations that failed to make themselves prosperous increases. Why, it’s only fair, right? MONEY!

I do not confess to recalling the exact data from the ICCP reports, but they projected that if nothing is done the Earth’s average temperature will rise seven degrees in 50 or 100 years (I forget which), which IS a big deal. But they further stated that if you added up the total CO2 emissions from ALL sources (cars, trucks, trains, planes, factories, power plants, etc., etc.) that that amount reportedly causes the Earth’s temperature to rise one degree in 50 or 100 years (I forget which). So think about it: Even if we stopped EVERYTHING (no more cars, trucks, trains, planes, factories, power plants, etc., etc. ever again), we’d only managed to knock one degree off that total of seven – i.e., we don’t even make a dent by stopping all energy consuming and emission generating activities (i.e., we all just freeze in the dark).

So, IF the ICCP reports are factual (and they are not because they have the fundamental flaw that CO2 in the atmosphere leads to increasing Earth temperature), then, by their own math, the ICCP reports show that there already is nothing we can do to avert disaster. Perhaps instead of spending billions of dollars trying in vain and also sending 2% of our annual GDP to third-world nations as the UN Climate Control Treaty would mandate that we do, how about building a bunch of biga*s dikes and barriers along all coasts to keep the seawater out?

The first EU president was tonight named as Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy.

Baroness Cathy Ashton, the UK's EU Trade Commissioner, was celebrating after becoming Europe's first foreign minister.
She got the post after being endorsed by Gordon Brown.
Mr Brown said tonight Baroness Ashton would also hold the vice-presidency of the European Commission.

He said the appointment would reaffirm Britain's influence in Europe.

'It shows that Britain is at the heart of Europe and it shows that we are leading the way in extending women's representation in the way we have done,' he said.

The Prime Minister said he still felt that Tony Blair - whom he backed for the presidency - would have been 'excellent'.
But he added: 'As the week went by it became clear that the EPP (the centre-right grouping in the European Parliament) wanted to have one of their own members as president of the council.'
The appointments came two hours after Tony Blair was officially out of the running for the presidency when Mr Brown switched his support to Lady Ashton.

Downing Street emphasised that Mr Brown only dropped his insistence on Mr Blair for the role of President of the European Council after arriving for the summit tonight to find support amongst his colleagues rapidly fading.

The situation became clear at a pre-summit meeting of EU Socialist leaders, including the Prime Minister.

Other Socialist leaders - who had been struggling to agree on a centre-left candidate to submit for either of the jobs available, swiftly agreed.

The surprise mustering of support for an outsider was seen as a mixture of pragmatism from Mr Brown coupled with enthusiasm from European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso.

The only person at tonight's talks over dinner apart from EU leaders themselves, Mr Barroso wants to increase the number of women in his Commission team.

And the role of EU 'High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security' takes the rank of Commission vice-president - one of Mr Barroso's deputies.

He has been impressed by Lady Ashton's performance since she took over as EU trade commissioner from Lord Mandelson almost exactly a year ago.

But few believed she was a serious candidate.

Lady Ashton, 52, is a former leader of the House of Lords who was promoted to that role by Mr Brown in his first reshuffle.

She took over as British commissioner in Brussels when Lord Mandelson rejoined Mr Brown's Cabinet in London.

With Mr Blair out of the way, although he never declared himself to be a candidate, the odds on Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy getting the EU presidency role were instantly reinforced.

Both France and Germany had thrown their weight behind him.

Although he lacks any of the charisma or international recognition of Mr Blair, that is a big plus in many capitals who do not want someone grandstanding around the globe on the EU's behalf.

Before the summit started, EU diplomats said the ill-defined role of President would be 'shaped by the personality of the person who takes the job'.

In the absence of Mr Blair, the role took on a more managerial slant - managing EU summits, co-operating with the Commission and, from time to time, representing the EU on the world stage.

But many argue that the High Representative role is the more powerful job, even though Lady Ashton will be a Commission Vice-President answerable to Mr Barroso.

The High Representative will effectively run the EU's 'embassies' around the world, with a personal staff, grace-and-favour home and all the trappings.

Lady Ashton will reign over the newly-created EU 'External Action Service', effectively a diplomatic corps co-ordinating the European Commission's existing collection of more than 120 delegations around the world, overseeing Europe's global humanitarian aid budget and massaging EU international relations.

Before tonight's decision, Britain was deadlocked with Germany over the decision.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is said not to be a fan of Mr Blair, reportedly commenting that she didn't like the idea of 'having to listen to Mr Flash all the time'.

Before tonight's decision, Britain signalled its opposition to Mr Van Rompuy, who supports the introduction of new EU taxes.
There are still no official candidates, and yet more than half a dozen politicians are said to be in the running.

Mr Brown was believed to have always had 'Plan B' if it became clear Mr Blair was out of the race.

David Miliband and Lord Mandelson both ruled themselves out of the running to be EU foreign minister.

Who is Cathy Ashton?

Baroness Ashton, 53, has been the EU's trade commissioner for the past year.

She took over from Lord Mandelson who was brought back to the UK Cabinet by Gordon Brown.

The former leader of the Lords was made a life peer in 1999.
In June 2001 she was made a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Education and Skills, taking charge of Sure Start in 2002.

Two years later she was became Parliamentary Under-Secretary in the Department of Constitutional Affairs. She was also appointed a Privy Councillor in 2006.

Baroness Ashton studied economics at London University and her early career included roles at the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and the Social Work Training Council.

She lives in St Albans with her husband of 21 years, journalist and pollster Peter Kellner. She has two children and three stepchlildren.

What an amazing few days on the road this has been. Your spirits have been high, your faith strong and your spine unbendable. I ended my multiday book tour at The Villages with what had been billed as a rally but could be better described as a candid citizen-to-citizen chat.

Today, I have stopped looking for a leader to show us the way out because I have come to realize that the only one who can truly save our country...is us. To change America's course we need to change ourselves, our expectations and our willingness to accept the unacceptable. When we refuse to allow our children to receive a trophy for participation, we are on the road to restoring the meaning of merit in our Republic. There is much to do, much to learn and time is of the essence. While I will be explaining the entire Plan over the coming weeks and months, I did want to give you a preview of some of the highlights:

- Education is key, and not just for our children. To that end, we will be conducting a series of conventions. These will be full-day experiences where you will be immersed in learning about topics ranging from self-reliance, community organizing, the economy and how to be a political force in your own neighborhood and country. The first one will be in Orlando at UCF Arena on March 27th. You will also be able to vote to have a convention in your region by clicking here.

- I have begun meeting with some of the best minds in the country that believe in limited government, maximum freedom and the values of our Founders. I am developing a 100 year plan. I know that the bipartisan corruption in Washington that has brought us to this brink and it will not be defeated easily. It will require unconventional thinking and a radical plan to restore our nation to the maximum freedoms we were supposed to have been protecting, using only the battlefield of ideas.

I am normally in favor of debate, but the American People all know what is going on these days on the Hill and that if this bill goes through with 60 votes Harry Reid and the other liberals in the Senate will pass this bill with the help of the White House using arm twisting, bribes and by the illegal method of reconciliation… needing only 51 votes to pass this type of bill . A bill that the American people don’t want.

“Please vote no” and encourage your fellow Senators like Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu, Blanche Lincoln and other moderates who are being pressured to join you in doing the right thing!

We all know that 97% of the bills that pass the cloture vote phase are ultimately passed and signed into law. Nobody has the votes to make enough changes to make this bill palatable to the American People… or turn it into an actual healthcare reform bill, instead of a revenue generating power grab at the expense of the people you represent, so there is no reason for debate or further review. The more review the angrier Americans will become!

We also know that many Senators have been bought off… Mary Landrieu told the American people just yesterday on national TV that she was still reading the bill and was undecided… Now we all know she was bought off with a deal of $100 million dollars for her state, in exchange for her vote on this bill. In the real world that is called a bribe!

I am a member of several large and powerful national organizations and am also a blogger as well as part of a blogging circle. Looking at the official polls, polls within my sphere of influence and after talking to everyone I know, which is a group comprised of Democrats, Conservatives, Liberals, Republicans, Libertarians and some totally non-political people… the large overwhelming majority do not want this bill or any version of ObamaCare!!

The chant from all corners is: “KILL THIS BILL AND THEN START OVER WITH HONEST BIPARTISAN HEALTHCARE REFORM”

The percentage of people who support any of the bills that are floating around varies between 29 and 32% and are dropping daily. The percentage of people who disapprove of all the bills that are floating around varies between 51 and 54%, but in many areas the people against ObamaCare is 2 to 1, and disapproval is rising as well.

Most people favor incremental healthcare reform which includes:

Tort reform; Fraud reform; Portable health insurance; Deficit neutral solutions; Sensible cuts; Spending Accounts that allow roll-overs into 401 K’s for unspent amounts… and other sensible measures

They also want:

No tax increases to cover this so-called reform; No governmental funds for abortions; No coverage of Illegal aliens, only American citizens and legal residents; No over-seer that gets between patients and their doctors (i.e. death panels); No government-run public option, single payer or trigger of any kind… no matte what you call it; and no electronic healthcare records of any kind, let alone ones with access ability to people’s financial records or placed on micro-chips in our bodies or any of the other Big Brother items in all these bills or hidden in bills already passed!!!

I/we will make sure that Senators that vote yes today for cloture or help get this billed passed in any way will lose re-election or be impeached. We are angry and tired of being ignored!!!!!!!

74% of voters rate the quality of health care they now receive as good or excellent and they know their coverage will be worse and more expensive after ObamaCare passes and even worse when they reach old age under the new system. The also fear all the intrusive stipulations and measures added into the bills; many of which we haven’t even found or realized yet. And these voters realize that the increase in the deficit, increased taxes and reduction in freedoms certainly makes no sense in any time, but especially in today’s economic climate, and in the end there will still be millions uninsured! Many of the people who favor government controlled (socialized) heathcare still won’t have coverage after we destroy the present system while upping our costs, taxes and debt… And many who support ObamaCare are not regular voters… For those of us who are, God forbid that this disastrous program passes… but let us make sure we do remember come election day, who supported this bill and who supported us!

Note there are provisions in the Constitution for the Federal Government to make anyone buy healthcare, just as there are no provisions the Constitution for the Federal Government to collect Federal Income Tax. When Anita Dunn, White House Communications director said Mao Tse Tung was her favorite philosopher and the person she turned to most for inspiration, people said it didn't matter.

When he appointed Carol Browner as global warming czar, and she is a well known socialist working on Cap and trade as the nations largest tax, people said it doesn't matter.

When he appointed Van Jones, an ex-con and avowed Communist as green energy czar, who since had to resign when this was made known, people said it didn't matter.

When he played politics in Afghanistan by not sending troops the Field Commanders said we had to have to win, people said it didn't matter.

When he started spending us into a debt that was so big we could not pay it off, people said it didn't matter.

When he took a huge spending bill under the guise of stimulus and used it to pay off organizations, unions and individuals that got him elected, people said it didn't matter.

When he took over insurance companies, car companies, banks, etc people said it didn't matter.

When he took away student loans from the banks and put it through the government, people said it didn't matter.

When he designed plans to take over the health care system and put it under government control, people said it didn't matter.

When he set into motion a plan to take over the control of all energy in the United States through Cap and Trade,people said it didn't matter.

When he finally completed his transformation of America into a Socialist State, people finally woke up.... but it was too late. It all mattered!!

Any one of these things, in and of themselves does not really matter. But.... when you add them up one by one you get a phenomenal score that points to the fact that our Obama is determined to make America over into a Marxist/Socialist society. All of the items in the preceding paragraphs have been put into place. All can be documented very easily. Before you disavow this, do an internet search. The last paragraph alone is not yet cast in stone. You and I will write that paragraph. Will it read as above or will it be a more happy ending for most of America ? Personally, I like happy endings.

If you are an Obama Supporter, please do not be angry with me because I think your president is a socialist but there are too many facts supporting this. If you seek the truth you will be richer for it. Don't just belittle the opposition. Search for the truth. I did. Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Constitutionalist, Libertarians and what have you, we all need to pull together. We all must pull together or watch the demise of a society that we all love and cherish. If you are a religious person, pray for our nation.

Never before in the history of America have we been confronted with problems so huge that the very existence of our country is in jeopardy. Don't rely on most television news and what you read in the newspapers for the truth. Search the internet. Yes, there is a lot of bad information, lies and distortions there too but you are smart enough to spot the fallacies. Newspapers are a dying breed. They are currently seeking a bailout from the government. Do you really think they are about to print the truth? Obama praises all the television news networks except Fox who he has waged war against. There must be a reason. He does not call them down on any specifics, just a general battle against them. If they lie, he should call them out on it but he doesn't.

Please, find the truth, it will set you free.

After months working in secret behind closed doors, Harry Reid this week finally unveiled his 2,074-page government-run health care plan. His plan would increase health care premiums, increase taxes on families and small businesses by half a trillion dollars, cut Medicare by another half trillion dollars, and allow federal funds to be used for abortions.

Palin-Hating 101

Sarah Palin's book tour is underway, and she's hitting all the major spots -- Oprah, Barbara Walters, Hannity and The Factor. It's been more than a year since she and her running mate lost to the Obama/Plouffe/Axelrod public relations machine, yet she still finds herself front-and-center in the national spotlight, even despite stepping down as governor of Alaska months ago.

Her influence and allure are practically unprecedented among failed vice presidential candidates. (Can anyone imagine Lloyd Bentsen, Jack Kemp or Joe Lieberman selling People magazine covers or sitting down for an hour with Oprah?) Even though she was skewered by the liberal media, lambasted by the self-loathing feminists, and slaughtered by the oh-so-cool "30 Rock" and "SNL" glitterati, Palin remains incredibly popular among conservatives.

Not only that, she's got real power. President Obama's been trying to sell the country on health care reform for months, but she managed to change policy overnight with a pointed note...on Facebook.

And, she's still someone people want to know about. Her book "Going Rogue: An American Life," was a best seller before it even hit the shelves.

And for these very reasons, her detractors are absolutely apoplectic right now.

Anyone witnessing the spin job being furiously whipped up against Palin in a desperate effort to stanch her book sales and cauterize her acclaim is in for a real treat. It is a truly acrobatic and dizzying display of agility -- but unlike the Flying Wallendas, these stunt men and women of the liberal media aren't fooling or wowing anyone. Their cheap sideshow parlor tricks are so transparent we should all demand our money back.

Newsweek, in advance of Palin's book release, obviously went for subtlety. Their headline read, "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Sarah? She's bad news for the GOP -- and everybody else, too." Accompanying it was a photo of her in running shorts used in a June 2009 Runner's World spread. Newsweek's message was clear: You are not to take this woman seriously. Never mind that Runner's Week told me that the photos from that shoot are still under a one-year embargo, and that Newsweek ran the photo without Runner's World's knowledge or permission. No biggie.

On "Hardball," Chris Matthews, who's still recovering from that bizarre bout of restless leg syndrome that suddenly befell him last year, actually had the audacity to say of the attention Palin is getting for her book release, "I've never seen hype like this." Apparently, the overwrought sensationalism of the Denver Democratic National Convention, where Obama stood amidst faux White House columns, under fireworks, next to Sheryl Crow and Will.i.am -- or "Hype and Change 2008" -- is but a distant memory to Matthews.

In another segment, on another night, Matthews and MSNBC reporter Norah O'Donnell decided that the crowd at a Palin book signing was, well, too white. "I think there is a tribal aspect to this thing. In other words, white vs. other people," said Matthews, ever the sociology scholar.

The leftwing media has long tried to ascribe a scary nativism to Palin, who best described the phenomenon during her recent Oprah interview, when she said that Katie Couric had looked at her like she was part of some kind of nomadic tribe from Alaska. Asking her what she read was like asking her if she read.

Others have tried to carefully feign disinterest in the hopes that, much like the flu, disinterest is contagious. The Washington Post published a book review by Ana Marie Cox, in which she smugly "confesses" she didn't have time to read the entire book, "It's terrible, I know, but if I didn't read it all, neither can Sarah Palin claim to have completely written it." In that one sentence, we know that Cox's time constraints excuse wasn't the issue. She simply wanted to be able to write in a book review that Palin's book didn't make her to-do list. Her anti-review review is fine for Cox, but what's the Washington Post's excuse for publishing it?

Others still have tried to dismiss Palin as some would-be celebrity, who -- how dare she?! -- had the gumption and considerable bad taste to write a book. And promote it. (Irony alert: Al Gore has his own television network.)

A radio host asked me recently if the perception that she is more "human interest story than person-of-action" will harm her in the long run. The fact is, there is no one on the planet more "human interest story than person-of-action" than our current president, who penned his terribly self-satisfied autobiography at the ripe old age of 43, while a mere state legislator.

But we don't see the liberal press fretting over President Obama's penchant for self-promotion. They coo when he goes on Letterman to talk about all the cool stuff that happens when you're president -- during a recession and a war. And they applaud his Nobel Peace Prize, for which he was nominated after just 12 days in office. And they rally around his embarrassing Olympic bid, which actually argued that the IOC should choose Chicago so that he and Michelle could stop and see the fam while in their old neighborhood. Obama's "me, me, me, me, me, me, me" aria is fine. But Palin's plain-speaking and honest stab at defending herself against her seething critics is schlocky showboating and shameless self-promotion. Please.

Regardless of all of these tired wheezes and coughs at trying to suppress Sarah Palin, she seems totally immune in every way. She'll make a fortune on this book; she'll continue to grab headlines; and she'll remain an influential figure within the party. The liberal media just hasn't realized it yet, but when it comes to Palin, there's no such thing as bad publicity. It sure is fun to see them try, though.

• Major reductions in Medicare benefits to Seniors.
• Major Tax Increases on every American to pay for it all…  The Bill mentions tax increases 183 times.
• Reid called for increasing the Medicare payroll tax.

Senator Gregg said earlier yesterday on GretaWire that the actual cost of the Pelosicare Bill is $3 Trillion Dollars and it will end up as single-payer socialized medicine and will ultimately cut a Trillion in Medicare… and that HarryCare won’t be any better

Despair flows as fields go dry and unemployment rises

In a state that is virtually bankrupt… the number one on the list of American states ready to fail, while having the eighth largest economy and largest population in the Country, how could the Federal government allow, no order, the water turned off to the San Joaquin Valley to save a minnow??

In July, Alana Semuels for the Los Angeles Times wrote:

MENDOTA, CALIF — Water built the semi-arid San Joaquin Valley into an agricultural powerhouse, the breadbasket of America. Drought and irrigation battles now threaten to turn huge swaths of it into a dust bowl.

Farmers have idled half a million acres of once-productive ground and are laying off legions of farmhands. That's sending joblessness soaring in a region already plagued by chronic poverty.

Water scarcity looms as a major challenge to California's $37-billion agricultural industry, which has long relied on imported water to bloom. The consequences of closing the spigot are already evident here in rural Fresno County, about 230 miles north of Los Angeles. Lost farm revenue will top $900 million in the San Joaquin Valley this year, said UC Davis economist Richard Howitt, who estimates that water woes will cost the recession-battered region an additional 30,000 jobs in 2009.

Standing in a parched field in 104-degree heat, valley farmer Joe Del Bosque pointed to cracked earth where tomatoes should be growing. He didn't bother this year because he can't get enough water to irrigate them. He's cultivating only about half of the cantaloupe and asparagus that he did in 2007. He has slashed his workforce, and his bills are mounting.

"We can't survive at 10% of our water," said Del Bosque, 60, a white cowboy hat, long sleeves and jeans protecting him from the blistering sun.

CONGRESS CREATED DUST BOWL?

With the unemployment on the rise in the state, 11.5 percent for May (2009), Governor Schwarzenegger last Friday afternoon activated the California Disaster Assistance Act for Fresno County and called for the federal government to make a federal disaster declaration for the county.

But this declaration unlike those used in response to the destruction caused by natural disasters is in response to providing temporary supplemental assistance to local governments and non-profit organizations that supply food and other aid to those who are impacted by the drought statewide. The order also waives the one-week waiting period for unemployment insurance.

Driving through the Central Valley, specifically along Interstate 5, the impact from the combination of the three years of drought is very noticeable as many fields lie fallow and signs dot the former farm lands claiming you are viewing a 'Congress Created Dust Bowl.' Studies estimate that as of May, the lack of water in the San Joaquin Valley, California's Central Valley has cost 35,000 jobs and $830 million in farm revenue.

Dead and Dying–California’s Central Valley Dust Bowl

We took a drive this week from Sacramento to Los Angeles, and had an eye opening experience. Down the entire length of the 5 freeway, we saw not the green luscious fields of produce or green orchards laden with fruit, but dusty dead and dying orchards. Rows after row, acres after acre, miles after mile of them, perfectly formed, perfectly helpless… lifeless.

By way of explanation, these signs dotted the dusty dry roadside: “Congress Created Dust Bowl. Thank You Sacramento!”

California’s orchards aren’t getting a drop of water this year despite the best rainfall in three years and five reservoirs filled to over capacity?!?

There’s no doubt that we’re in a drought, but why the sudden drop in water availability only for farmers? Are the politicians in Sacramento more concerned about the plethora of city votes than the small handful of agricultural ones? We will all be paying for Sacramento’s blunder. The Central Valley provides up to 8% of the nation’s fresh produce.

Watching the staggering waste makes your heart ache. We had to pull over and take pictures. The contrast from the past green was stark—it takes 30 years to build an orchard to full production! Almonds, walnuts, citrus… Why do we have green lawns in the rest of the state while these resources, food for the nation, are left to die?

Just the other day (Nov 19, 2009), my husband made the drive north from Orange County to San Jose. He said the sight was devastating!! No crops, no green, just a dust and dirt in every direction as far as the eye can see... two full months after Sean Hannity (see below) California Representatives and others held a rally for awareness of the problem.

A few weeks ago, Ty and Janet Lompa were doing the unthinkable: cutting down 110 acres of walnut orchards. That’s roughly 10,000 trees and a third of their entire acreage.

“It takes 30 years to get ‘em here,” says Janet Lompa, “and about a minute and a half to knock ‘em down.”

Ty Lompa helped plant many of these trees with his father, and they used to water the orchard with flood irrigation from the project built by the federal government. But when water started to become an issue, “we immediately switched over to micro-irrigation,” says Lompa. “So we have absolutely no runoff.”

But the Lompas’ farm relied entirely on federal water — they have no groundwater of their own. They can keep part of their orchard alive with water they carried over from last year, but the rest can’t be saved.

“You can’t leave trees in the field and just let ‘em die,” Ty Lompa says. “You’re gonna get bugs, you’re gonna get disease, so they have to come down.”

The Lompas are furious because they blame government, not nature, for the death of their trees. And Janet Lompa tells her four children that “the politicians gave it all to the fish” when they ask why there’s no water.

Politics Takes Control

Farmers throughout this region echo the sentiment that politics, not the drought, is the problem. Most of California gets its water from a huge estuary called the Delta, where two big rivers join in the center of the valley. But so much water was being pumped out of the Delta that a tiny smelt there, an endangered species, is disappearing. So late last year, a federal judge ruled that the amount of water being delivered to the south had to be sharply cut back.

In April, in a sweltering tin shed in the middle of the Westland’s water district, about 200 farmers gathered to hear what Tom Birmingham had to say about the crisis. Birmingham is the executive director of the irrigation district. Yes, the drought is a problem, he says, but he believes the much bigger problem is that court ruling.

“Since mid-February, as a result of that biological opinion, we’ve lost approximately 300,000 acre-feet of water. It’s floated out the Golden Gate.”

That means it was given to the fish.

“The state of California has gone from 15 million people when these projects were built 50 years ago, to almost 30 million,” Gary Coehlo says. “And we haven’t added one bit of water, storage, conveyance, dams — anything. Now, the need for water has become greater, and they’re gonna dry us up,” adds Tony Coehlo.

Does any of this make sense?? Would the Federal government really shut off water and cause a dust bowl? Could it really take months and months to hold hearings until one of the major food production areas in America is destroyed? Could a bankrupt State and Federal Government really choose to add thousands upon thousands of people onto the unemployment and welfare rolls? Could a bankrupt State and failing Federal government really choose to cut off a major food supply, causing increases in the cost of groceries to a public that is facing somewhere between 10 and 20% unemployment… on purpose?

I have heard 5 television hosts in the past 3 days say they fear that the government's plan is to put the American People and America itself into such dire straights that they will beg the government… and then the United Nations to help us and takeover… Have we really become that lethargic and dumbed down that we are willing to let that happen?

Have you ever heard of and checked the information on Agenda 21 – a treaty signed, brought back and implemented under Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton?? If you haven't I suggest you do your homework quickly!!

Water activists say after nearly a dozen marches and protests, it’s time to try something different, so last Thursday Hannity broadcasted his national show from a dry, dirt field west of the Fresno/Kings County line.

The Federal government has cut off water to the bread basket of America and refuses to turn it back on.

U.S. Senate to California Farmers: Drop Dead

Demonstrating once again the moonbat priorities of the Democratic Senate majority, the Senate has voted to screw over hundreds of thousands of farmers and endanger our national food supply for the sake of a two-inch fish that probably isn't endangered anyway.

Because of the ruling of Moonbat Judge Oliver Wanger, millions of gallons of freshwater that could be growing crops and providing livelihoods to hundreds of thousands of people are washing uselessly into the sea. Farmers are facing bankruptcy and tens of thousands are out of work.

California's dingbat senators Dianne Feinstein and Babs "Ma'am" Boxer stood by and did nothing to correct this insanity. It took a Republican from South Carolina, Jim DeMint, to try and rescue California's farmers by proposing an amendment to restore water to the farmers in the San Joaquin valley. Guess what? Senate Demoncrats... including both dingbat senators from California... voted it down. And Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has interfered to keep the water turned off several times before.

Feds shut off water to California farms in controversial effort to help threatened species

A farming town in California claims that it may disappear due to the United States federal government shutting off water pumps, though the government states the actions are necessary to save several marine species.

In July 2009, action by the Federal Bureau of Reclamation to protect threatened fish stopped irrigation pumping to parts of the California Central Valley causing canals leading into Huron, California and the surrounding areas and the farms that rely on them to lose their primary irrigation source. Unemployment has reached 40% in some areas as the farms have dried up.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger stated the action is putting the fish “above the needs of millions of Californians.”

Highlighting the city’s plight, Huron Police Chief Frank Steenport stated, “A year from now, [Huron] may not be here.”

In an interview on Tuesday, comedian Paul Rodriguez, the mother of whom owns a farm in the area, criticized the actions of the government and called for President Barack Obama to review the decision. “This used to be an almond orchard. Now all that is left is firewood.”

Laura King Moon, assistant general manager of the State Water Contractors, a nonprofit association of 27 public agencies from across California that purchase water from the government under contract, said “these cuts are crippling on our people and businesses — especially in the Central Valley where farmers are being forced to fallow their land and workers are being laid off. Rather than piecemeal restrictions, we need to balance the needs of the environment and the needs of people with a collective plan for the Delta.”

The National Marine Fisheries Service, an agency within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, states the water pumping inside central California threatens several marine species. In the Huron area, the delta smelt is specifically targeted.

In defense of the actions, Rod McInnis, the southwest regional director for NOAA’s Fisheries Service stated, “What is at stake here is not just the survival of species but the health of entire ecosystems and the economies that depend on them. We are ready to work with our federal and state partners, farmers and residents to find solutions that benefit the economy, environment and Central Valley families.”

Delta Smelt

Delta smelt, Hypomesus transpacificus, are slender-bodied smelts, about 5 to 7 cm long, of the Osmeridae family. They have a steely blue sheen on the sides and seem almost translucent. Smelts live together in schools and feed on zooplankton (small fishes and invertebrates). One female may lay from 1,400 to 1,800 eggs. Mature unfertilized eggs are about 1 mm.

Habitat

Delta smelt are currently endemic to the Sacramento Delta, California, where it is distributed from the Suisun Bay upstream through the Delta in Contra Costa, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano and Yolo counties. The delta smelt is a pelagic (live in the open water column away from the bottom) and euryhaline species (tolerant of a wide salinity range). They have been collected from estuarine waters up to 14 ppt (parts per thousand) salinity.

Life cycle

Most delta smelt live one year and die after their first spawning (semelparous). Delta smelt spawning occurs in spring in river channels and tidally influenced backwater sloughs upstream of the mixing zone (saltwater-freshwater interface). The Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers then transport the delta smelt larvae downstream to the mixing zone, normally located in the Suisun Bay. Young delta smelt then feed and grow in the mixing zone before starting their upstream spawning migration in late fall or early winter.

Delta smelt are preyed upon by larger fish, especially striped bass and largemouth bass which are invasive species in the Sacramento Delta.[1]

Delta smelt used to be a common fish in the Sacramento - San Joaquin rivers estuary. The population is much smaller than historically and the species was listed in 1993 as threatened under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA) and Federal Endangered Species Act (FESA) (Federal Register 58:12863; March 5, 1993). Critical habitat was listed for delta smelt on December 19, 1994 (Federal Register 59:65256). In 2008, the California Fish and Game Commission moved to uplist delta smelt to endangered under CESA.

Court protection

On August 31, 2007, California Federal Judge Oliver Wanger of Federal District Court protected the rare declining fish delta smelt by severely curtailing human use water deliveries at San Joaquin-Sacramento River delta from December to June. [2] It should be noted that these are the pumps at the Banks Pumping Plant that send water to Central and Southern California for agricultural and residential use. As a result of this ruling, large portions of the heavily-agricultural western San Joaquin Valley have been denied water allocations used for farmland irrigation. This, in conjunction with the persistent drought affecting the region, has caused large amounts of farmland to become fallowed.
