The Council Has Spoken!! This Weeks’ Watcher’s Council Results - 10.04.13

Alea iacta estThe Council Has Spoken!, the votes have been cast, and we have the results for this week’s Watcher’s Council match up.

“Carthage delenda est” – Marcus Cato

“An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.” – Sir Winston Churchill

“No people in history have ever survived who thought they could protect their freedom by making themselves inoffensive to their enemies.” - Dean Acheson

This week’s winner, Joshuapundit’s Peace In Our Time . Are my thoughts on Iranian president Hassan Rouhani’s ‘charm offensive’ and President Obama’s reaction to it. Here’s a slice:

President Obama’s latest diplomatic foray involves ‘engagement’ with Iran over its illegal nuclear program.

During his recent speech to the UN General Assembly, the president said unambiguously that the U.S. was not seeking regime change in Iran, and spoke about pursuing ‘the diplomatic path’. According to President Obama, he was basing this on Iran’s new president, Hassan Rouhani, who President Obama characterized as “having received from the Iranian people a mandate to pursue a more moderate course”, on Rouhani’s commitment not to build a nuclear weapon and on a fatwa against nuclear weapons issued by Iran’s Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah Khamenei.

The press absolutely jumped on this.NBC News reported that this was “the first time leaders from the U.S. and Iran have directly communicated since the 1979 Iranian revolution.”

The always servile AP reported that Rouhani’s speech to the UN was ‘absent anti-Israel rhetoric’ ( it clearly wasn’t) , while CNN went so far overboard as to perform what appears to be a deliberate mistranslation of President Rohani’s remarks to make it appear that, unlike his predecessor, he condemned the Holocaust.

But all that aside, let’s look at the shiny , new diplomatic track President Obama, his media allies and his foreign policy team are so enthused about.

First of all, Hassan Rouhani isn’t Iran’s leader in any sense of the word. Iran is a villayat e’ fiqh, an Islamic theocratic dictatorship, just as the Ayatollah Khomeini envisioned. Iran’s dictator is Supreme Guide Ayatollah Khameneni, head of the Supreme Council of Guardians. It is Khamenei and the Guardians who vet all candidates for office and decide who gets to run for president and who doesn’t, as well as who ends up winning the ‘election’.

Rouhani, like his predecessor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a carefully vetted regime loyalist who serves at Khamenei and the Council’s pleasure and follows their orders exactly. Otherwise he wouldn’t have been allowed to run for election, let alone be president.

Nor is Rouhani a ‘moderate’, whatever that means. Especially not when it come to Iran’s nuclear program. No, he pretty much endorses the Iranian mantra of no compromise on nukes. Or as Rouhani put it to EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton about two weeks before his speech at the UN, Iran “will not give up one iota” on nukes. AFP referred to that as ”echoing his hardline predecessor” Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Of course, you didn’t read about that in the New York Times.

When you’re speaking to Rouhani, you’re really getting a PR version of Khameini’s views, with a helpful smile for the gullible western press and politicians.

Now, a meeting between President Obama and the Ayatollah Khamenei would be worth citing as a breakthrough of sorts..except that Khamenei has refused to do anything of the kind. On the other hand, the telephone conversation between President Obama and President Rouhani that the current occupant of the Oval Office is so excited about is the diplomatic equivalent of a noncommittal little chat with Khamenei’s personal assistant.

Even worse was the message President Obama sent to the Iranians with his speech at the UN.

The current Iranian regime is one of the most evil in human history. It has the blood of many of its own people on its hands as well as a being a major state supporter of terrorism world wide, even being implicated in the 9/11 bombing of the World Trade Center. All that aside, President Obama’s pledge not to seek regime change and to in effect recognize the Iranian regime’s legitimacy may have whizzed right by a number of American commentators, but I assure you it did not pass unnoticed by the Iranians. Nor did the president’s apology for U.S. help in ridding Iran of a Soviet collaborator, Mossedegh, who had ignored a call from his own parliament to resign and who would have put the Iranians under communist slavery as part of the Soviet empire if he hadn’t been stopped.

It’s vital to see this not through our western eyes, but through the Iranians.

In Muslim culture, apology is seen as weak and servile, something an inferior does to ingratiate himself with a stronger superior. That’s why the Iranians have never apologized for taking over our embassy and holding our diplomats hostage, allowing al-Qaeda fighters from Afghanistan to move through their territory after Tora Bora, their support for terrorist groups, targeting our troops in Iraq or gathering in howling mobs chanting ‘Death To America!’.

It’s why Rouhani made no pretense of making a concession by doing it in his speech at the UN.

So given all this, what our president referred to as ‘mutual mistrust on both sides’, how well is any attempt at negotiation likely to work? President Obama’s is basing his new diplomatic track on his feeling that the Iranians can be trusted with any agreement they make with America and the west on nuclear weapons, on Rouhani’s moderation, and on a religious fatwa against the use of nuclear weapons by the Ayatollah Khamenei.

Let’s examine these items in turn.

Steve King Accuses Obama of ‘Largest Political Tantrum Ever’ During Government Shutdown

Video: Steve King Accuses Obama of ‘Largest Political Tantrum Ever’ During Government Shutdown

And check this out… the Deficit is actually DECREASING during shutdown! Share this link!

US Debt Clock

The Debt Clock is a real time representation of, among other things, federal spending.

What's cool is that during the shutdown federal spending is actually LESS then revenue...so the DEFICIT is decreasing by about $170,000,000 a day.

Why this is deadly to the libs is that the longer the shutdown goes, the more people will see how bloated the government is. The slimdown is just cutting the fat and it's already making a huge difference. The longer it lasts the more people will see that, hey, it's no skin off our teeth AND we're getting our financial house in order!

Political Elitists Living the High Life While Americans Suffer

letthemeatcake

What is that line that Obama likes to use… ‘shared sacrifice’ or is it really more like ‘Let them eat cake’?

By: Terresa Monroe-Hamilton  -  Cross-Posted at Right Wing News and Ask Marion

Americans are struggling… no jobs, inflation that our would-be leaders deny is even there, ObamaCare sucking us dry, taxes that would make King George blush… and this nightmare is just getting started.

But don’t you worry your pretty little head! Our esteemed leaders who have exempted themselves from ObamaCare are making sure they are taken care of. Americans may be quietly starving in their hovels, but our politicians are living the high life, while throwing us scraps and scratching their heads… trying to figure out why the riffraff are upset.

More than half of all members of Congress are millionaires. Now you know why I say: Shut. It. Down.

From our friends at The Economic Collapse blog, comes some stunning figures:

  • Over 15 years, the Senate has spent 5.25 million on hair care. $40,000 a year for shoe shining. This is for 100 Senators, many of whom don’t have much hair left. I hear lying makes you go bald.
  • According to Roll Call’s annual survey of Congressional wealth, the super wealthy in Congress just continue to get much wealthier even though they are supposedly dedicating their lives to “public service”…

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) is the richest Member of Congress for the second year in a row, reporting a vast fortune that in 2011 had a minimum net worth surpassing $300 million for the first time.

McCaul is followed by Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), who reported a minimum net worth of $198.65 million, and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who reported a minimum net worth of $140.55 million. The two lawmakers swapped places since last year’s list.

The lawmakers who round out the top five, Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), also flipped positions from 2010 to 2011, with Warner’s reported minimum worth rising about $9 million to $85.81 million and Rockefeller’s minimum worth rising slightly to $83.08 million.

  • Amazingly, the 50th most wealthy member of Congress has a net worth of 6.14 million dollars.
  • At this point, more than half of those “serving the American people” in Congress are millionaires.
  • In one recent year, an average of $4,005,900 of U.S. taxpayer money was spent on “personal” and “office” expenses per U.S. Senator.
  • Once they leave Washington, former members of Congress continue to collect huge checks for the rest of their lives

In 2011, 280 former lawmakers who retired under a former government pension system received average annual pensions of $70,620, according to a Congressional Research Service report. They averaged around 20 years of service. At the same time, another 215 retirees (elected in 1984 or later with an average of 15 years of service) received average annual checks of roughly $40,000 a year.

  • Speaker of the House John Boehner would bring home a yearly pension of close to $85,000 if he left Congress when his current term ends in 2014.
  • At this point, quite a few former lawmakers are collecting federal pensions for life worth at least $100,000 annually. That list includes such notable names as Newt Gingrich, Bob Dole, Trent Lott, Dick Gephardt and Dick Cheney.
  • The U.S. government is spending approximately 3.6 million dollars a year to support the lavish lifestyles of former presidents such as George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
  • Nearly 500,000 federal employees now make at least $100,000 a year.
  • During one recent year, the average federal employee in the Washington D.C. area received total compensation worth more than $126,000.
  • During one recent year, compensation for federal employees came to a grand total of approximately 447 billion dollars.
  • If you can believe it, there are 77,000 federal workers that make more than the governors of their own states do.
  • When Joe Biden and his staff took a trip to London, the hotel bill cost U.S. taxpayers $459,388.65.
  • Joe Biden and his staff also stopped in Paris for one night. The hotel bill for that one night came to $585,000.50.
  • When Biden and his staff visited Moscow for two days in 2011, the total hotel bill came to $665,445.00.
  • During 2012, the salaries of Barack Obama’s three climate change advisers combined came to a grand total of more than $370,000.
  • Overall, 139 different White House staffers were making at least $100,000 during 2012, and there were 20 staffers that made the maximum of $172,200.
  • It is estimated that the trip that the Obamas took to Africa cost U.S. taxpayers about 100 million dollars.
  • The Obamas only have one dog named “Bo”, but the White House “dog handler” reportedly makes $102,000 per year and sometimes he is even flown to where the Obamas are vacationing so that he can take care of the dog.
  • There is always at least one projectionist at the White House 24 hours a day just in case there is someone that wants to watch a movie. Apparently turning on a DVD player is too much to ask.
  • In one recent year, more than 1.4 billion dollars was spent on the Obamas. Meanwhile, British taxpayers only spent about 58 million dollars on the entire royal family.

Yep, no where to cut there according to Pelosi. The cupboard is bare. Right.

Those of us who have worked our whole lives have had it with this blatant egregious theft. Witness the following fallout and prepare to be pissed:

This week, Yahoo featured the story of a 77-year-old former executive that is now flipping burgers and serving drinks to make ends meet. He says that he now earns in a week what he once earned in a single hour, but he is thankful to have a job in this economic environment…

It seems like another life. At the height of his corporate career, Tom Palome was pulling in a salary in the low six-figures and flying first class on business trips to Europe.

Today, the 77-year-old former vice president of marketing for Oral-B juggles two part-time jobs: one as a $10-an-hour food demonstrator at Sam’s Club, the other flipping burgers and serving drinks at a golf club grill for slightly more than minimum wage.

While Palome worked hard his entire career, paid off his mortgage and put his kids through college, like most Americans he didn’t save enough for retirement. Even many affluent baby boomers who are approaching the end of their careers haven’t come close to saving the 10 to 20 times their annual working income that investment experts say they’ll need to maintain their standard of living in old age.

So many Americans are barely making it from month to month at this point. Most people work very, very hard for their money, and it is very discouraging to see our politicians waste our hard-earned tax dollars so frivolously.

And remember those insider trading laws… somehow we, most Americans, would go to jail, just ask Martha Stewart,  but somehow it is okay for those in Congress?!?  Even after it was brought to light by notorious lobbyist Jack Abramoff and others.

I feel the need for tar and feathers approaching. Enough of political elitists on both sides of the aisle living the high life while all of America suffers. Shut. It. Down.

We also thought this might be a good time to revisit the photos below of just a few of our 'royal family's' vacations.

HERE ARE JUST A FEW VACATION PHOTOS

Honestly, you just haven't lived 'til you've stayed in a private 3-story villa at a 5-Star luxury hotel, the Villa Padierna.

It only cost $95,000, and I was able to hold the total bill under $500,000 for the week. What a bargain!

Villa Padierna - O Vacation

Thank you also for the use of Air Force Two and the 70 Secret Service personnel who tagged along to be sure we were safe and cared for at all times. Air Force Two (which costs $11,351 per hour to operate according to Government Accounting Office reports) only used 47,500 gallons of jet fuel for this trip and carbon emissions were a mere 1,031 tons of CO2. That's quite a carbon footprint as my good friend Al Gore would say, so we must ask the American citizens to drive smaller, more fuel efficient cars and drive less too, so we can lessen our combined carbon footprint.

Air Force 1

But hey, Barack's Air Force One costs about $200,000. per hour to operate and with his many trips, he spent almost half a billion dollars on flights alone last year. Yeah, that's with a B? $500,000,000,000.

The Battle Between Good and Evil

By Marion Algier – Ask Marion

Many Republicans (Conservatives, Independents and Constitutionalists) believe the fight going on right now over the continuing resolution that will then continue on to the fight for another debt ceiling raise for the federal government is their last chance to stop ObamaCare. The panel on CNBC’s Kudlow Report with Cathy Areu, Washington Post; Kellyanne Conway, The Polling Company; and Jim Pethokoukis, American Enterprise Institute, provide perspective in the video below.

Kudlow says if you are a free market person, this is a battle between good and evil, and many people believe just that but it involves far more than just the free market system.  Brain surgeon and author of America the Beautiful: Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great (Kindle), Dr. Ben Carson said the true underlying battle is over what type of country we want to be, because the acceptance and implementation of ObamaCare puts us ever further down the road toward socialism because as Harry Reid has said, the goal of ObamaCare has always been to create a single payer healthcare system which is socialized medicine… no matter what they call it.  And let us all remember the origins of socialized medicine, after which large parts of ObamaCare is patterned.  We are in the battle right now for our political souls, for the survival of America as we know it and as our Founding Fathers envisioned it, our system of economics, individual freedoms, the survival of the American Constitution which includes the Bill of Rights and in many ways between good and evil.  Yet far too many Americans have hardly noticed that there is an underlying battle and many that do are clueless as to what it really is about and the facts, information and history behind it.

Even the process itself plays out as a battle between good and evil as the Head of the Senate, Harry Reid calls Tea Party supported Congressmen and Senators anarchists because they are standing up for their constituents, free market principles, the Constitution and fiscal responsibility.  Regardless of what Supreme Court Judge John Roberts spun in his questionable decision and justification to uphold the Affordable Care Act, forcing anyone to buy anything, including healthcare, is unconstitutional.  And President Obama intentionally keeps using the words, “This fight will cause a ‘default of government’ instead of a ‘government shutdown’”, to demonize the Republicans, inflate the overall situation and cause a panic among the uninformed.

CNBC Panel Video: The Battle Between Good and Evil

“NOT ALL SUICIDE BOMBERS WEAR A C-4 VEST AND RUN INTO CROWDED SHOPPING MALLS… MOST THESE DAYS WEAR BUSINESS SUITS AND CRY ‘TERRORIST’ WHEN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE OPPOSE THEM AND THEN BLINDLY STAND BY A SOFT TYRANT.” – GERLAD LOEFFERS

Political Suicide Bombers By Gerald Loeffers:

Well folks… the votes are in and cloture passed with only 19 dissenting votes, with both of my Senators from Idaho voting ‘no.’ Not to anyone’s surprise, even those who weren’t paying attention, the Democrats of course voted down the line ‘yes’ and then the giant herd of RINOs were at the watering hole letting the lions chew on their withering hides. The stage is set for the House vote and then for Barry to veto the bill at his whim. I have never seen so many lemmings dropping off the cliff as I have these past five years. Wow! It’s incredible and the Democrats are actually going out there crying bloody murder if the shut-down happens. They are accusing any American Tea Party member or anyone else who opposes OBAMACARE of being a terrorist.

PARTY CANNIBALS

Let’s hear it for Senators MIKE LEE and TED CRUZ! What a refreshing bunch. Watching Mr. CRUZ going through 21 HOURS on his feet in the same suit and even reading a bedtime story to his little ones… that leaves an impression and a man who outright made good on his promises, now that is a new idea! But it didn’t take long for the usual weak minded RINO cannibals to start chowing down on Cruz. Self made, shrink-like Peter King labeled Cruz crazy and JOHN “TERRORIST SUPPLIER” MCCAIN called Cruz reckless and made the point that he should have just played the game like everyone else. Well, crusty John… that’s the problem — both parties have been playing a game and not doing the country’s business for so long, you’re now the most irrelevant leaders of the country. Even your own state of Arizona is going through the process to recall your worthless crusty butt. It should be noted MCCAIN, that when your nickname is Flipper, it’s not a compliment.

LET’S MAKE A DEAL

We have now seen that OBAMA and JOHN “FOOTBALL FACE” KERRY are willing to negotiate with terrorists, Islamic Nazis, Syria, Russia, the UN and even Mexican drug cartels over matters of money, oil, weapons and people’s lives, but they refuse to make a deal with the American people or the opposition party of note. Of course, the Republicans haven’t been a true opposition party in nearly 20 years and with the Progressive movement’s infection running through both parties at different speeds, it’s not going to change any time soon.

WILLINGNESS TO DESTROY AT ANY COST

When you have politicians willing to destroy the economy, liberty, capitalism, individual rights and the Constitution… all so they can fool us into thinking that free stuff is the American way and so you reelect them for another useless term and they stay in power so they don’t have to get a real job and get their hands dirty or put their backs out for an honest dollar, then it’s time to burn down their phone lines and e-mail servers and to drive their interns crazy. It’s time to have more peaceful protests all over the country. We need more recall elections, just like in Colorado or to have more 2 million biker rally’s. It’s not Congress’ job to operate a PONZI scam at your unmitigated expense. When was the last time the federal government produced ANYTHING that you wanted to buy, that in turn they earned any profit from? ZIP, ZERO… NOTHING! All government income is stolen workers’ income.

The heroes in both houses of Congress who are fighting for us, fighting for the will of now over 70% of the American people (having inched up from 58% in June 2013) who do not want ObamaCare or at least not in its present form, should be supported by all Americans from both parties concerned about our form of government, individual freedoms, jobs, healthcare and the economy.  The vitriolic attacks on these public servants fighting for average Americans by Progressives like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and the ever changing smoke and mirrors from the White House should also be scorned by all Americans.  #MakeDCListen by getting involved today!  Demand fairness and equal healthcare for all; no exemptions, which is the center point of the latest version put forth by Republicans in the House of Representatives!  There is much more at play here than healthcare or even the budget.  If you take the time to educate yourself you just might agree that the true battle going on right now in Washington D.C. is the battle between liberty and tyranny, between freedom or a nanny state, between good and evil.

NBC, part of the mainstream media who spin for the Obama administration, will begin educational public service messages on October 1st to ‘encourage and educate’ Americans to sign up for ObamaCare paid for by taxpayer money while a new grassroots campaign launched by a nonpartisan youth advocacy organization Generation Opportunity is encouraging young Americans to opt out of the Affordable Care Act’s health care exchange before it takes effect in January for they will be subsidizing the healthcare of older Americans at a time where they cannot find jobs, are under employed and have staggering college loans to be paid back.

Just a side note… the Obama administration said today (09.30.13) that after all their promotion and millions to be spent in taxpayer monies in promotion of ObamaCare, they will consider the sign-up of a mere 5 million Americans for the exchanges between October 2013 and March 2014 a success?!?  Really??  Where are the 30-million Americans who supposedly were desperate for this coverage and all the additional people we know have already or will lose coverage because of ObamaCare? Why is it now estimated that there will still be 30-million without healthcare coverage after the ObamaCare monstrosity goes into affect?  Are they a different 30-million?  Plus interestingly, Neil Cavuto of Fox Business pointed out earlier today… on September 30th, 2013… the day before the sign-up for the exchanges begin, that the wording about some “free” ObamaCare provisions and benefits has suddenly been deleted from the White House website.  Hmmm…

You be the judge~

America: SHUTDOWN is Here… Congress Fails to Reach Agreement by Midnight Deadline - Updated

Ask Marion | October 1, 2013 at 9:25 am - WASHINGTON (TheBlaze/AP) — Congress has missed the deadline for averting the first partial government shutdown in 17 years.

SHUTDOWN: Washington, D.C. Unable to Reach Agreement Before Midnight Deadline

shutterstock.com

The Office of Management and Budget released a memo just before midnight on Monday instructing agencies to “now execute plans for an orderly shutdown due to the absence of appropriations.”

Agencies “should continue to closely monitor developments, and OMB will provide further guidance as appropriate,” the OMB announced.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said it was a “sad” day for the country as he announced the news on the Senate floor after midnight.

As the clock struck midnight Monday, House Republicans were demanding that the Senate negotiate their demand for a one-year delay in making millions of people buy health insurance under President Barack Obama’s 2010 health care law. Minutes before midnight, the White House ordered a shutdown.

The Democratic Senate on Monday twice rejected GOP demands to delay key portions of what has become to known as ObamaCare as a condition for keeping the government open.

An estimated 800,000 federal workers faced furloughs though many were told work a half day Tuesday. Critical functions like air traffic control and military operations will continue. Social Security benefits will be paid. National parks and most federal offices will close.

Watcher’s Council Forum Thoughts Earlier in the Day:  Will There Be A Federal Government shut down,And Do You Approve Or Disapprove?

The Razor: I used to get worked up about these things, but they’ve happened so many times and become such a Washington DC insider sport that I’ve lost interest. I neither know nor care whether the federal government will shut down. As far as I’m concerned the less it functions the better. I hate to sound cynical but seriously, how many times have we gone through this?

The Independent Sentinel: I do believe there will be a shutdown and I also believe the media will successfully put the blame on Republicans. As much as I don’t want a shutdown or see Republicans blamed, I believe it is the right thing to do. The Republicans are trying to do the right thing. They are doing what most of their constituents want, not just the Tea Party as the Democrats would have us believe.

The reason I feel the way I do is because I see ObamaCare as irrevocably damaging this country. I listened to Bill O’Reilly the other day talk about how melodramatic people are about ObamaCare. This isn’t about melodrama, it’s about our freedom. Our Founding Fathers didn’t sacrifice all that they sacrificed to have us turn around and sell ourselves to the highest bidders in government.

Some of the things ObamaCare does:

  • ObamaCare gives the government the right to tax the people as much as they want on anything they want. This law should never have been declared constitutional.
  • The Affordable Care Act was supposed to give the people in this country access to affordable healthcare. The CBO says, however, that 30 million will be without healthcare under ObamaCare.
  • The CBO also said it was unsustainable. Mr. Obama said that premiums would go down by as much as 3000% but they are skyrocketing in some cases.
  • Mr. Obama assures us there will be subsidies, but who pays these subsidies? Roughly, 41% of the country will pay for the other 59%. If that’s his idea of justice, I want no part of it.
  • Worst of all, we are losing the 40-hour work week. My guess is that Obama will make some concessions to unions and this could be one of them, but then who pays for that? Someone has to pay for this free healthcare.
  • Many believe that healthcare should not be profit making. However, instead of the insurance companies profiting, the government will profit. We can’t sue the government – there will be no judicial recourse. There is also the problem of doctors profiting. If they don’t make a profit, we will see the end of private practice and we will only get our health services through clinics and hospitals. The service will be lacking and the lines will be long.
  • ObamaCare will ruin our healthcare system.
  • ObamaCare isn’t ready for prime time and a lot of people will be hurt by it.
  • People who are opposed to paying for abortions will be forced to pay for them. That is unconscionable.
  • Kathleen Sebelius gets to decide who lives and who dies. What was that she said – some live, some die?
  • An IPAB comprised of non-medical, unelected bureaucrats will operate as a rogue government and decide the fate of the elderly and handicapped by limiting payments to doctors and hospitals. The IPAB operates independent of Congress and only the Executive controls it. IPAB can probably levy taxes. That is too much power in the hands of one branch of government.
  • Our healthcare records will not be secure and we could easily be subject to tyranny of government agencies and rogue employees.
  • The bill is almost 20,000 pages. That can’t be good.
  • ObamaCare is about the government taking over 18% of the economy.

Every doctor I know thinks this is an awful bill. It was written in secret by special interests. There is a lot of money and influence involved. We are giving our health over to a small number of elite.

We will eventually be stuck with a single payer system and most freedom-loving Americans don’t see that as a good thing. The non-profit co-ops subsidized by the government and the many demands placed on insurance companies will force them out of business.

The White House is rewriting this bill, not Congress. They have amended it 19 times without going through Congress.

If this bill goes through as is, we won’t be the country we were.

The Republicans finally look like the party of Lincoln. It wasn’t easy for him and his party then and this won’t be easy now.

GrEaT sAtAn”S gIrLfRiEnD: Shut it down. Keep the Gov out of our hair for a while. Besides, they can’t harm us while they’re out of biz.

JoshuaPundit: I think the chances of a shutdown are 65-35 that it will happen. I see it, overall, as a positive thing.

For five years, we’ve been governed by a dysfunctional, arrogant demagogue and his enablers engaged in the looting of the treasury to reward their political cronies, Chicago-style. It’s the height of irony to see a president and his allies who wasted a trillion taxpayer dollars on a bogus ‘stimulus’ that did nothing but enrich their political cronies, who have made an art out of ‘digitizing’ money that doesn’t exist now raging about ‘political terrorists’ and fiscal responsibility merely because someone finally said no, we’re not going to raise the amount of your credit line again unless we can negotiate over some things we want to happen.

This president has a long history of governing by diktat and executive order, including his de facto imposition of the Dream Act congress rejected three times and modifications to ObamaCare (the name ‘Affordable Care Act’ is an unintended joke on the country). Both of these acts are illegal under U.S. law along with other actions by this president.

I’d remind everyone exactly why ObamaCare is the train wreck it is – because this president, Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker Pelosi shoved it through with Republicans literally locked out of the room and without the normal negotiations and deliberations with the Senate. They did it because Republican Scott Brown won a special election in Massachusetts and would have been a vote not to end debate, holding ObamaCare up indefinitely. So they pushed the bill through with even reading it Now they, or rather the American people are stuck with this mess. President Obama and the Democrats own it.

So all in all, it’s high time an attempt was made to have this president do something he’s consistently refused to do – negotiate with Republicans. Whether the House Republican leadership will hold steady is, of course, another matter. If they don’t, if they cave, I doubt the GOP will survive as a party.
The Glittering Eye:Yes, the federal government will shut down. Default is also possible. No, I do not approve of it. I think it’s an abrogation of responsibility on the part of our elected leaders and there’s plenty of blame to spread around. Refusing to fund the PPACA was like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Whatever Congressional Republicans’ views of the program, shutting down the federal government to poke a thumb in the eye of the Senate Democrats and the president is just irresponsible.

However, the Senate Democrats are irresponsible, too, in refusing to deal with the legislation passed by the House and the president has been decidedly unhelpful by refusing outright to negotiate with House Republicans. Sometimes I fear for the republic.

Bookworm Room: No, there won’t be a government shutdown, because Republicans always blink. And without regard to the shutdown, I disapprove of Republican’s blinking problem. As for the shutdown itself, I think it would be a useful exercise for all Americans to see what happens if the federal government is reduced to its essential services. It will shake people up, one way or another.

I was reminded of a mini-government shutdown just today when I found myself at San Francisco’s beautiful Marina and Chrissy Fields. Looking out at the Bay and at Alcatraz, I was truly saddened when I thought that the sequester means that, for the first time in 25 or so years, there won’t be a Fleet Week event in San Francisco. When the sequester hit, the Pentagon didn’t trim waste (and there’s lots of waste in our wonderful military). Instead, it immediately punished the American people. The Pentagon is, after all, first and foremost a bureaucracy. The loss isn’t just emotional, it’s financial. Fleet Week is a very profitable weekend for the towns that host it. In addition to sailors and Marines, Fleet Week brings in about 100,000 tourists and their money. Nevertheless, the important thing to remember is that, in the grand scheme of things, life goes on. A government service was cut and it’s no biggie.

Well, there you have it.

*If you look at the fact that the stock market is up today, the shutdown appears to be no biggie to them! Charles Payne said today on Cavuto that perhaps the shutdown will show us that we don’t need nearly as many government workers and non-essential services that we now have. It could actually backfire on the big-government Progressives now in power?!?

Some of the Government Shuts Down

The federal government will officially shut down after Congress failed to reach an agreement on a short-term resolution to fund the government by midnight Monday, when the current funding resolution expired. Harry Reid and the Senate rejected the House’s compromise proposal to avoid a shutdown again, just hours before the deadline.

The House of Representatives led by Republicans made a final offer to fully fund the entire government with a light lift compromise to delay just a couple provisions within ObamaCare that most Americans do not want. And the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, held out his hand again to sit down and negotiate with both the Senate and/or the President at Midnight last night; but neither stood-up to do their job and negotiate.

Instead, President Obama’s response was no compromise and no negotiation followed by giving the most divisive and un-presidential speech I have ever heard in my lifetime! And Harry Reid continues to vilify anyone who stood up for their and their constituents’ convictions. Shame on both of them! Ronald Reagan would have been on the phone with all parties last night and would have averted this shutdown promoting unification instead of causing greater division! Their (Reid and Obama’s) lack of interest in negotiating really gives legs to the view that this battle is only a symptom of a much larger fight, The Battle Between Good and Evil.

And then there is always the thought that this shutdown is exactly what Obama and his cronies wanted all along to divert attention from the problems and disastrous rollout of ObamaCare that began today.

You be the judge…

Cruz and Lee acted as the grassroots’ flushing dogs or critters says Palin

A simple fact is missing from all the media hysteria and political establishment temper tantrums over Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee’s attempt to defund Obamacare.

Americans are getting slammed by Obamacare right now. Workforces are decimated as health care prices rise. Public opinion is on our side. If now was not the time to unite and fight it, when was? Those who are attacking Cruz and Lee’s efforts have forgotten how negotiations are won.

Use as an example the negotiations a governor of energy-rich Alaska must engage in with powerful multinational oil tycoons. In my experience, I found that the key to achieving success for the people you’re elected to serve is to take a firm position, stand solid, and negotiate from there when the other guy is ready to take you seriously. You fight as hard as you can with whatever small edge you’ve got until the other guy respects you enough to wise up, sit down, and come to a mutually acceptable agreement. You get nothing at all if you preemptively surrender before the battle even commences.

Imagine how much stronger the GOP’s hand would have been if every Republican (and those Democrats who’ve finally admitted Obamacare’s devastating flaws) stood together against cloture in order to prevent Harry Reid from cutting off debate and stripping Obamacare defunding from the bill?

Not only would there have been pressure on red state Democrats up for re-election to join the right cause, there would have been pressure on Reid and the White House to negotiate agreements. Even if the GOP couldn’t have defunded all of Obamacare, they could have negotiated some relief for average Americans who now feel they can do nothing but brace for the coming train wreck. We average Americans know we’ll never get the exemptions and favors Obama gave his political cronies and Congress, but any relief for the middle class would have been welcomed.

But Republicans got nothing from squabbling with each other and denouncing (on and off the record) the brave men who tried to do something.

Ted Cruz and Mike Lee fought to fulfill the campaign promises every Republican made, and their actions have been revelatory for all of us.

Hunters know what flushing dogs do. Cruz and Lee were acting as the grassroots’ flushing dogs. Their actions showed us who was willing to stand up for hard working Americans and who wasn’t. We thank Senators Vitter, Paul, Crapo, Enzi, Fischer, Roberts, Scott, Heller, Grassley, Toomey, Moran, Rubio, Shelby, Risch, Inhofe, Portman, and Sessions for standing with Cruz and Lee.

In 2010, a galvanized grassroots rallied against Obamacare to carry Republicans to victory. But in 2012, many in the grassroots stayed home, and we saw how that turned out for the GOP.

Unfortunately, the message of some politicians today seems to be: “Whoopsie, seems I can’t fulfill my election promises, but vote for me again and I promise to do what I promised last time.”

Sorry, that doesn’t cut it. America, you deserve better. If they can’t do anything with the power you gave them through their elected office, then you deserve someone else to give it a try.

2014 is just around the corner, and we’re ready for it. Support those who do us a favor by flushing out politicians wanting to hide. Retrieving liberty must be the point in all this.
