Iran successfully launched a missile into space yesterday.  This is a major event, but the mainstream media only focused in on them sending a rat, two turtles and a worm up in that launch.…Ahmadinejad has also threatened again that there would be a big blow on February 11th, as they do every year on their anniversary, but we are not hearing much about that either.  But with the events of the past year, perhaps the mainstream media should be focusing in and reporting on more than worms and their unfortunate pals??

Denial of Holocaust nothing new in Iran / Ties to Hitler led to plots against British and Jews

Thousands of Jews journeyed to Israel via Iran both during the Holocaust and during the years after the fall of Hitler, when Arab leaders, especially in Iraq, tried to continue Germany's anti-Jewish program. Iran profited handsomely.

Since the shah's downfall, Iran has become a center for organized international Holocaust denial and has helped elevate the endeavor from fringe hate speech to a state-approved pseudo-intellectual debate.

In international forums and on state-controlled radio, Iranian university experts and journalists help validate the revisionist views that Jews were never gassed or murdered in great numbers during the Holocaust.

Indeed, Iran has become a refuge for the biggest names in European Holocaust denial. When in 2000, revisionist author Jürgen Graf was sentenced in Switzerland to 15 months in prison for Holocaust falsification, Graf fled to Tehran "at the invitation of a group of Iranian scholars and university professors who are sympathetic to Holocaust revisionism," according to the Institute for Historical Review, a denial clearinghouse.

What's more, in May 2000, Iran's embassy in Vienna granted asylum to Austrian Holocaust denier Wolfgang Fröhlich, who testified as a so-called expert witness during Graf's 1998 trial. This saved Fröhlich from Austria's severe anti-Holocaust denial statutes. Fröhlich argued that evidence proved no Jews were killed by Zyklon B gassing.

Earlier, about 600 journalists and 160 members of the Iranian parliament signed petitions supporting French revisionist Roger Garaudy, who was fined $40,000 by French authorities for his book claiming the Holocaust was a myth. When Garaudy landed in Iran, the country's supreme spiritual leader, Ayatollah Sayyad Khamenei, granted him an audience and lauded his work.

Iran has played a leading role in the Holocaust drama and now tries to deny it. That should be very hard in a nation that was named for Hitler's master race.

Ed Schultz On Visiting White House: 'Almost A Shrine' - To Obama

Agreed, this doesn't come as much of a shock. What's surprising is that Schultz said "almost".

Here's Schultz on his radio show Friday talking about meeting with Obama advisor David Axelrod at the White House the day before, along with fellow liberal radio host Bill Press and several other left-wing media types Schultz did not identify (click here for audio) --

SCHULTZ: First of all you walk into the White House, in the West Wing, and there are picture all over, I mean everywhere! Of President Obama! I mean, of his life in the first year as president of the United States. Now I don't know if that's the way it is with every president, but it was almost a shrine. I mean, well, here's a picture of Obama the president with his kids over here. There he is getting on Air Force One. Here he is with some military people. Here he is on the line working the line at one of his campaign stops. I mean, just, it was just one picture after another! (laughs)

And so I got the message right away that there's nothing but Obama fans in the White House which I think is a good thing. 'Cause it's always good to have the team together, right? (laughs)

I'm not sure which is more bizarre -- Schultz not realizing this doesn't speak well of Obama, or Schultz saying "I got the message right away that there's nothing but Obama fans in the White House." This constitutes a "message"? What was he expecting, a tea party protest?

As if those "Obama fans" have much say about photo homages to Dear Leader. Instead of that, how about photographs and illustrations of previous families who've lived in the White House? Or portraits of staffers who've worked there for decades? Or character studies of men and women in uniform, whose service helps the current occupants of the executive mansion sleep soundly at night.

Perhaps even -- dare I say it -- art?

Normally when a President decorates the Oval Office and the White House, it's filled with pictures that tell the story of the building of America. Presidents like to be reminded of where we came from and who we are. That trend appears to have come to an abrupt halt. We also need to step in stop the government from re-writing out history and from changing the curriculum taught to our children to something we don’t recognize or want. North Carolina announced that they were overhauling both their history and English curriculums. If passed students will get an overview of US History in Junior High, but no US history until 11th grade in high and that will begin with President Grant… no teaching about our Founding Fathers, the Constitution, our heritage, the American revolutions, etc. Last week the board who reviews textbooks in Texas recommended that all references to the our Founding Fathers' religion or their stand on God be removed from the textbooks. Those are the kind of recommendations that lead to brainwashing and the repeat of history. They also recommended that Thomas Paine, the man who wrote and preached Common Sense, be removed from the coming year’s textbooks. Many schools deny that the Holocaust ever happened, teach that Christianity and Judaism are theory's (if mentioned at all) but the the Islam is fact. All parents need to be vigilant!! Read the textbooks, help with homework and projects, volunteer in the classroom and get to meetings of the school board and the PTA or PFA… and speak out! Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. Instead, we are burdened with Congressional Dukes and Duchesses who think they know better than the citizens they are supposed to represent.

There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now.

You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would feel so horribly disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut-job am I? Well, these briefly are the views and issues for which I seek representation:

One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist.

This is not to be confused with legal immigration.

Two, the STIMULUS bill. I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you No, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.

Three: Czars. I want the circumvention of our constitutional checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution, and honor it.

Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There are many conflicting opinions and it is too soon for this radical legislation. Quit throwing our nation into politically-correct quicksand.

Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision that will burden me, my children, and grandchildren. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night without even reading it. Slow down! Fix only what is broken -- we have the best health care system in the world -- and test any new program in one or two states first.

Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. More is not better! Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real [Constitutional] obligations. Why don't you start there.

Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes -- how did they pull that one off? Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with any of our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate.

Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs -- and that is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person! Why do you want me to hate my employers? And what do you have against shareholders making a profit?

Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.

Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Every company must sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. (Have you ever ripped off a Band-Aid?) We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.

Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please stop trying to manipulate and appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.

Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now.
Take a breath. Listen to the people. Slow down and get some input from nonpoliticians and experts on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed-reading our bills into law. I am not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant or a violent person. I am a parent and a grandparent. I work. I'm busy. I am busy, and I am tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave.

I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not.

It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is needless urgency and recklessness in all of your recent spending of our tax dollars.

From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on bringing our concerns to Washington. Our president often knows all the right buzzwords like unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons!

We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work, pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone... and we are now looking at you.

You have awakened us, the patriotic freedom spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office.

We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn't ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us who will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.
Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian. Understand this. We don't care. Political parties are meaningless to us! Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution, and that is all that matters to us now. We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back. We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired. Did you hear? We no longer care about your political parties. You need to be loyal to us, not to them. Because we will get you fired and they will not save you.

If you do or can represent me, my issues, my views, please stand up. Make your identity known. You need to make some noise about it. Speak up. I need to know who you are. If you do not speak up, you will be herded out with the rest of the sheep and we will replace the whole damn congress if need be one by one.

We are coming. Are we coming for you? Who do you represent? What do you represent? Listen. Because we are coming. "We the people are coming."

Senator-elect Scott Brown, the Republican who upset the political world to wrest the longtime Massachusetts Senate seat of the late Senator Edward Kennedy from the Democrats will be sworn in to office Thursday afternoon.

Brown's swearing-in will give Republicans 41 seats in the upper chamber.

"Once we get his certificate, we expect to swear him in tomorrow afternoon as early as 5 o'clock, which is earlier than he suggested," Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, told TheHill.com Wednesday.

The liberal Dems (Progressives) have passed as much legislation and as many appointments since Brown’s election as they could, insisting they needed to wait for the official Certification, even though Mass gave the Senate a temporary certification and the okay to swear him in immediately, as they do and have previously done, including for Teddy Kennedy for this same seat, when it works in their favor.

From the signs we have seen so far, the second shot heard around the world, was not heard by the Progressives in our government.

Airports to begin strip-searching passengers

You might want to take a minute to say goodbye to your personal liberties. They're flying right out the window -- and, as usual, it's all in the name of "protecting the public." You knew this was coming... After the failed terror attempt on Christmas day, the federal Transportation Security Agency (TSA) has decided to step up its security screenings. Their solution? Strip-search every passenger. It's not by hand, mind you, but it may as well be. The TSA plans to begin using full-body X-ray scanners that would essentially strip passengers of their clothing -- and their dignity. With these new scanners, no details would be left to the imagination -- which is just how the feds like it. Yup, Big Brother is a big perv. (And this will not solve the problem, nor is it necessary and it ads a new threat) But I'm not sure which is worse: The threat to your privacy or the threat to your health. Like X-rays, the new machines use radiation to create these indecent exposures. The experts claim that the low dose of radiation is perfectly safe -- even for children and pregnant women. That is absolutely untrue! Baloney. Exposing pregnant women to radiation can lead to grossly disfigured babies or can even cause women to miscarry. It's no coincidence that five female security guards had miscarriages after working with these supposedly safe machines. And it's not much safer for adults. Radiation can damage DNA and cause structural damage to your cells -- both of which can lead to cancer. In fact, Dr. John Gofman, Professor Emeritus of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, believes that 50 percent of all cancers are caused by the radiation from medical tests -- the same ones meant to "protect" you by detecting cancer early! Bottom line: If you don't want to be fried with ionizing radiation every time you fly -- and if you'd rather not have airport workers paid to be peeping toms...you won't stand for this outright invasion of your rights. When it comes to these full-body X-rays, I don't care how low the dose is. There is no safe level of ionizing radiation. Period.

It is time Americans began using some common sense, stop giving up their liberties for protection or the illusion of safety (which never helps or works out well), stop letting the government endanger our health and start demanding that the government worry about Americans and their rights and health instead of what “the world” thinks us!

We need to be proactive not reactive and insist the government use methods that work to insure homeland security and stop endangering us and our children with half-backed ideas and so-called medical, chemical, and electronic methods that actually damage our health and take away our freedoms!

Yet Obama told Americans last week: regardless of what you, the American People, want; regardless of what virtually all economic experts say; against all common sense; and in defiance of proof that there is no manmade Global Warming and that ObamaCare is a fraud… not a fix of any of the problems with healthcare, and that both are job killers, cost and tax hikes and the biggest government power grabs in US history, he is pushing forward with his progressive agenda.

Well… now both China and Japan have announced that we have to ‘guarantee’ every penny of what they’ve loaned us to bail out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And insiders have leaked that Obama has now given the word to lay off of security observation of China. Hmmm?? Connection?? Just like when they poisoned our pet’s food and our kids with lead paint on toys a few years ago; we just had to roll with it because they own us… What comes next?

President Obama is being disingenuous when he says that the budget deficit he faced "when I walked in the door" of the White House was $1.3 trillion. He went on to say that he only increased it to $1.4 trillion in 2009 and was raising it to $1.6 trillion in 2010.

Here are the facts:

In 2008, Bush ran a deficit of $485 billion. By the time the fiscal year started on October 1, 2008, it had gone up by another $100 billion due to increased recession-related spending and depressed revenues. So it was about $600 billion at the start of the fiscal crisis. That was the real Bush deficit.

But when the fiscal crisis hit, Bush had to pass TARP in the final months of his presidency which cost $700 billion. Under the federal budget rules, a loan and a grant are treated the same. So the $700 billion pushed the deficit -- officially -- up to $1.3 trillion. But not really. The $700 billion was a short term loan. $500 billion of it has already been repaid.

So what was the real deficit Obama inherited? The $600 billion deficit Bush was running plus the $200 billion of TARP money that probably won't be repaid (mainly AIG and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac). That totals $800 billion. That was the real deficit Obama inherited.

Then...he added $300 billion in his stimulus package, bringing the deficit to $1.1 trillion. This $300 billion was, of course, totally qualitatively different from the TARP money in that it was spending not lending. It would never be paid back. Once it was out the door, it was gone. Other spending and falling revenues due to the recession pushed the final numbers for Obama's 2009 deficit up to $1.4 trillion.

So, effectively, Obama came close to doubling the deficit.
Obama seems not to understand that the deficit is the jobs problem. To add to the deficit in the hope of creating more jobs is an oxymoron. Additional deficit spending just crowds out small businesses trying to borrow money to create jobs and consumers seeking credit to buy cars and homes.

Soon, when the Fed stops printing money and we have to borrow real funds from real lenders, the high deficit will send interest rates soaring, further retarding growth and creating a cost-push inflation.
The interest rate we are now paying for the debt -- about 3.5% -- is totally artificial and based on the massive injection of money supply created by the purchase of mortgage backed securities by an obliging Federal Reserve. Once these injections of currency/heroin stop, the rate will more than double, sending our debt service spending into the stratosphere. Once we had to choose between guns and butter. Now we will have to choose between guns and butter on the one hand and paying our debt service on the other.
Obama's program of fiscal austerity in this new budget is a joke. He freezes very selected budget items while he shovels out new spending in his stimulus packages. If he wanted to lower the deficit, here's what he could do:

1. Cancel the remaining $500 billion of stimulus spending and

2. Cancel the $300 billion of spending in stimulus II.

Those are the real numbers. Or, as Al Gore would have it, "the inconvenient truth."

John G. Is 63 years old and owns a small business. He's a life-long Republican and sees his dream of retiring next year has all but evaporated. With the stock market crashing and new taxes coming his way, John assumes now that he will work to his dying day.

John has a granddaughter. Ashley is a recent college grad. She drives a flashy hybrid car, wears all the latest fashions, and loves to go out to nightclubs and restaurants. Ashley campaigned hard for Barack Obama. After the election she made sure her grandfather (and all other Republican family members) received a big I told-you-so earful on how the world is going to be a much better place now that her party is taking over.

Having lost both roommates, Ashley recently ran short of cash and cannot pay the rent (again) on her 3 bedroom townhouse. Like she has done many times in the past, she e-mailed her grandfather asking for some financial help.

Here is his reply:

Sweetheart,

I received your request for assistance.

Ashley, you know I love you dearly and I 'm sympathetic to your financial plight. Unfortunately, times have changed. With the election of President Obama, your grandmother and I have had to set forth a bold new economic plan of our own..."The Ashley Economic Empowerment Plan." Let me explain.

Your grandmother and I are life-long, wage-earning tax payers. We have lived a comfortable life, as you know, but we have never had the fancier things like European vacations, luxury cars, etc. We have worked hard and were looking forward to retiring soon. But the plan has changed. Your president is raising our personal and business taxes significantly. He says it is so he can give our hard earned money to other people. Do you know what this means, Ashley? It means less for us, and we must cut back on many business and personal expenses.

You know the wonderful receptionist who worked in my office for more than 23 years? The one who always gave you candy when you came over to visit? I had to let her go last week. I can't afford to pay her salary and all of the government mandated taxes that go with having employees. Your grandmother will now work 4 days a week to answer phones, take orders and handle the books. We will be closed on Fridays and will lose even more income to the Wal-Mart.

I'm also very sorry to report that your cousin Frank will no longer be working summers in the warehouse. I called him at school this morning. He already knows about it and he's upset because he will have to give up skydiving and his yearly trip to Greenland to survey the polar bears.

That's just the business side of things. Some personal economic effects of Obama's new taxation policies include none other than you.. You know very well that over the years your grandmother and I have given you thousands of dollars in cash, tuition assistance, food, housing, clothing, gifts, etc., etc. But by your vote, you have chosen to help others -- not at your expense -- but at our expense.

If you need money now sweetheart, I recommend you call 202-456-1111, again that is: 202-456-1111 . That is the direct phone number for the White House. You yourself told me how foolish it is to vote Republican. You said Mr. Obama is going to be the People's President, and is going to help every American live a better life. Based on everything you've told me, along with all the promises we heard during the campaign, I'm sure Mr. Obama will be happy to transfer some stimulus money into your bank account. Have him call me for the account number which I memorized years ago…

Perhaps you can now understand what I've been saying all my life: those who vote for a president should consider the impact on the nation as a whole, and not be just concerned with what they can get for themselves. What Obama supporters don't seem to realize is all of the money he is redistributing to illegal aliens and non-taxpaying Americans (the so-called "less fortunate") comes from tax-paying families.

Remember how you told me, "Only the richest of the rich will be affected"? Well guess what, honey? Because we own a business, your grandmother and I are now considered to be the richest of the rich. On paper, it might look that way, but in the real world, we are far from it.

As you said while campaigning for Obama, some people will have to carry more of the burden so all of America can prosper. You understand what that means, right? It means that raising taxes on productive people results in them having less money; less money for everything, including granddaughters.

I'm sorry, Ashley, but the well has run dry. The free lunches are over. I have no money to give you now. So, congratulations on your choice for "change." For future reference, I encourage you to try and add up the total value of the gifts and cash you have received from us, just since you went off to college, and compare it to what you expect to get from Mr. Obama over the next 4 (or 8) years. I have not kept track of it, Ashley. It has all truly been the gift of our hearts.

Remember, we love you dearly.....but from now on you'll need to call the number mentioned above. Your "Savior" has the money we would have given to you. Just try and get it from him.

"Glenn Beck and I are here on the Gulf Coast to do two sold-out Bold & Fresh shows. We knew when we signed on for the tour that creepy far-left people would be stalking us, and they are. After our first show, the loopy Media Matters rejoiced in saying that I had compared the South Side of Chicago to Haiti. Here's what I said: 'If you've ever been to the South Side of Chicago, it's a disaster. It's like Haiti. I support some charities there, but Haiti just never gets better, no matter how much money you put in there ... but Obama really believes the government can do it.' Those comments deeply offend far-left kool-aid drinkers, even though every word is true. For decades Chicago's South Side has been a pocket of poverty and brutality; Barack Obama's well aware of that because he worked there. An enormous amount of federal and state money has poured into the South Side, yet it remains a major problem. The situation directly parallels what's happened in Haiti - massive aid, few results. Self-reliance is the key to success in life; a nanny state chokes that. If the President and I have one area of disagreement, it is big government. I believe it can not solve problems, he believes it can level the playing field, at least somewhat. That hasn't happened on Chicago's South Side, has it?"

O’Reilly did a great job of reducing the healthcare debate down to a simple 3 point solution that would cost nothing, that many in the GOP including Scott Brown and the American people with common sense have suggested:

1. Letting the Free Market Work; allowing the insurance companies to sell insurance, including the Lizard (part of his shtick), and allowing the people to buy insurance across state line, in all 50-states.

2. Tort Reform – real tort reform like in England where the bringer of nuisance type suits are fined.

3. Clean-up the waste in Medicare, and Medicaid to cut the need to cut services or increase prices.

Beck did his interpretation of Biden and Pelosi sitting behind Obama at the State of the Union that people rolling in the aisles. A little clip of that below, begins at 6:16 of this segment.

“Many Are Called, Few Are Chosen...” In a serious note, Beck talked about being called to be the trumpeter or bell ringer and he has carried that load for quite some time, especially the past couple of years. He says that for the first time in a long time he is feeling relieved and sleeping better because he sees the American People waking up.

On a final note…

President Obama headed down to Florida at the end of the week after delivering the State of the Union. Guess they didn’t plan ahead… They called down to the Sun Dome in Tampa to schedule an event for Friday night; thought he needed a big place. When they called there, they were told sorry, but the arena was booked and sold out by the O’Reilly-Beck Bold Fresh Tour. Wouldn’t you have wanted to have been a fly on that wall?!? ;-)

Then to add injury to insult, Obama had less than 3,000 people at his event… if you add in the 1000 protestors outside. Seated inside they had 2,000 O’Reilly and Beck at 16,000.

Maybe “O” should have just stayed home after that because now he has this to explain…

Fox News hosts give a voice to frustrated

TAMPA - When Fox News Channel hosts Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck took the stage at the University of South Florida Sun Dome on Friday, they received standing ovations, applause and cheers befitting rock stars.

Their main topics, President Barack Obama and his policies, got boos.

The audience of about 8,000 at both shows savored every chance to voice their displeasure with Obama while hanging on every word from the two pundits at the forefront of the conservative movement.

The "O'Reilly/Beck Bold & Fresh Tour" was designed to be a live extension of both hosts' television shows, sprinkled with routines of stand-up comedy.

Beck appeared first to raucous applause. He wasted no time commenting on Obama's town hall meeting at the University of Tampa on Thursday.

"Two thousand people showed up for the president," Beck said. "He had 1,000 inside, and the other 1,000 were protesters."

Shouts sprang from the Sun Dome crowd, a mostly white, but not all, audience ranging in age from elementary school children with their parents to the elderly.

"What I really like about Obama," Beck continued, only to be cut off by a man who yelled, "Nothing!"

Beck smiled and finished: "It's his deep sense of humility. He is truly a piece of ... work."

As he took his shots at Obama and big government, Beck interspersed anecdotes about his family life: how fast his daughter is growing up, how he and his children got into a Nerf gunfight over the holidays.

After about 45 minutes, it was O'Reilly's turn.

With the crowd on its feet as soon as he appeared, O'Reilly immediately mentioned Sami Al-Arian, the former USF professor who pleaded guilty in 2006 to aiding terrorists.

"I remember Sami," O'Reilly said. "I got him in trouble. I kind of felt bad. He was a nice-looking little guy."

Applause rang out when he referred to Chicago's south side, where Obama once was a community activist, and how that part of the city was like Haiti.

"We keep pumping money into it, and nothing happens," O'Reilly said.

The host of "The O'Reilly Factor" said he doesn't dislike the president.

"There's a philosophical difference between Obama and me," O'Reilly said. "And it's interesting to see how the country has turned on Obama."

The turning point, O'Reilly said, was Obama's "health care thing."

"Regulate the ones we have," O'Reilly said of existing insurance companies. "Let them compete in all 50 states. Have you tried to renew your driver's license lately? I don't want those people selling me insurance."

O'Reilly and Beck give a voice to a majority of Americans frustrated with big government but too skittish to speak up, said Evan Eastman, 19.

"What they're saying is relevant," said Eastman, a member of the USF College Republicans. "They're making people stop and think about today's policies."

There were a handful of protesters at the Sun Dome before the 4 p.m. show began.

Just like the last time Glenn said it, this slaughter wasn't a literal one. This time it was referring to the war of words and Glenn's words absolutely slaughtered Arianna's (not literally, Arianna). In perhaps one of the worst points brought up in the history of punditry, Huffington tried to accuse Glenn of inciting violence because he said the word 'slaughtered' in a monologue on the economy. Just so Media Matters isn't confused, Joe Klein was not actually 'destroyed' by Bill O'Reilly. The two had a conversation and Klein did his best to humiliate himself. Glenn Beck Fires Back at Huffington

Fox News host and best-selling author Glenn Beck fired back Monday against Huffington Post blogger Arianna Huffington's allegations that he is "inciting" Americans to violence, countering that such accusations are "completely ridiculous."

On the Sunday talk program ABC's This Week, Huffington asked Fox News CEO Roger Ailes if he were concerned that Beck "talks about people being slaughtered, about who is going to be the next in the killing spree.

Ailes replied that Beck was referring to massacres by Hitler and Stalin. But Huffington insisted: "No, no, he was talking about this administration."

Alies then said, "I think he speaks English. I don't know, but I mean, I don't misinterpret any of his words."

When Huffington continued on the attack, the top Fox News executive rattled off several examples of aspersions that Huffington had published about Ailes on her blog. "Then it really went nasty," Ailes said, "and I thought, 'Gee, maybe Arianna ought to cut this out,' but...."

In discussing Huffington's allegations on his radio program, Beck revealed that Huffington tried to recruit him last year to write for her Web site.

"Arianna Huffington, I would like you to explain this," Beck told listeners.

"The last time and the only time that I've ever seen you or spoken to you, you asked me to write for the Huffington Post and tried to convince me that it would be good, because you are so open minded and everything else.

"Now, were you trying to incite people, when you asked me to write for the Huffington Post? Or are you going to deny that? It was, I can tell you when it was. It was at the Time Most Influential 100 dinner last year when I was an absolute nobody. But I was on Fox News and I was saying the same stuff."

Beck and his team of on-air contributors suggested that Huffington had an ax to grind because he ignored her offer.

WATCHDOG: BANK BAILOUTS CREATED MORE RISK IN SYSTEM

The problems that led to the last financial crisis have not yet been addressed, and in some cases have grown worse, says Neil Barofsky, the special inspector general for the trouble asset relief program, or TARP. The quarterly report to Congress was released Sunday.

The government's bailout of financial institutions deemed "too big to fail" has created a risk that the United States could face a worse fiscal meltdown in the future, an independent watchdog assigned to review the program told Congress on Sunday.

The Troubled Assets Relief Program, known as TARP, has not addressed the problems that led to the last crisis and in some case those problems have festered and are a bigger threat than before, warned Neil Barofsky, the special inspector general at the Treasury Department.

"Even if TARP saved our financial system from driving off a cliff back in 2008, absent meaningful reform, we are still driving on the same winding mountain road, but this time in a faster car," Barofsky wrote.

Barofsky wrote the $700 billion financial bailout has encouraged more risk-taking because bank executives, who are still receiving massive bonuses, figure the government will come to the rescue the next time they steer their ships nearly aground.

"The market mentality now seems fixed that the U.S. government will continue to step in and bail out giant financial institutions," said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. "The IG's findings confirm my decision to oppose releasing $350 billion in TARP funds last year and my recent vote to terminate the program altogether."

"The SIGTARP's report is just another reminder of how Congress and the administration have ignored the role that politics and government played in causing the housing crisis and the economic collapse while pursing other regulatory reforms will not fix the underlying problem," said Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., the ranking member on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's spokesman Nadeam Elshami said politics is the reason the government stepped in to save the banks in the first place.

"The American people paid a heavy price because of the reckless economic policies of the Bush administration where the interests of Wall Street were placed ahead of the interests of Main Street. The House passed Wall Street reform legislation to protect taxpayers and consumers and ensure transparency and accountability without a single Republican vote. We hope that House Republicans would drop their unanimous opposition and work for reform instead of against it," Elshami said.

The inspector general's report details stonewalling by the Treasury Department over a recommendation that walls be built between managers of the public-private investment program, which uses taxpayer cash to buy bad assets, and employees of the fund management companies which sell the toxic assets.

Barofsky's report outlined 77 cases of possible criminal and civil fraud, including crimes of tax evasion, insider trading, mortgage lending and payment collection, false statements and public corruption.

One case concerns apparent self-dealing by one of the private fund managers Treasury picked to buy bad assets from banks at discounted prices. A portfolio manager at the firm apparently sold a bond out of a private fund, then repurchased it at a higher price for a government-backed fund.

A rating agency had just downgraded the bond, so it likely was worth less, not more, when the government fund bought it. The company is not being named pending the outcome of Barofsky's investigation.

Treasury said it welcomed Barofsky's oversight but resisted the call to erect new barriers against conflicts of interest. The new rules "would be detrimental to the program," Treasury spokeswoman Meg Reilly said in a statement. The existing compliance rules "are a rigorous and effective method of protecting taxpayers," she said.

"As the report says, 'for various reasons, Treasury has decided that requiring such walls 'is simply not practical in the context of PPIP,' and has refused to adopt this recommendation. It is disappointing but not unsurprising that the Treasury Department under the leadership of Secretary (Tim) Geithner is once again stonewalling transparency," Issa said.

"Frankly, just because it may be inconvenient is not a good enough excuse to justify leaving taxpayer dollars vulnerable to manipulation and fraud," he continued.

Much of Barofsky's report focused on the government's growing role in the housing market, which he said has increased the risk of another housing bubble.

Over the past year, the federal government has spent hundreds of billions propping up the housing market. About 90 percent of home loans are backed by government controlled entities, mainly Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Housing Administration.

The Federal Reserve is spending $1.25 trillion to hold down mortgage rates, and millions of homeowners have refinanced at lower rates.

"The government has stepped in where the private players have gone away," Barofsky said in an interview. "If we take government resources and replace that market without addressing the serious (underlying) concerns, there really is a risk of" artificially pushing up home prices in the coming years.

The report warned that these supports mean the government "has done more than simply support the mortgage market, in many ways it has become the mortgage market, with the taxpayer shouldering the risk that had once been borne by the private investor."

Barofsky's report echoed concerns raised by housing experts in recent months, as home sales and prices rebounded. They warn that the primary reason for the turnaround last year has been billions of dollars in federal spending to lower mortgage rates and prop up demand.

Once that spigot of cash is turned off, they caution, the market will be vulnerable to a dramatic turn for the worse. Daniel Alpert, managing partner of investment bank Westwood Capital, wrote in a report that national home prices are bound to fall 8 to 10 percent below the lows of last spring.

"The lion's share of the remaining decline will occur in markets that saw sizable bubbles but have not yet retrenched," he wrote.
Officials from the Obama administration counter that massive federal intervention has helped the housing market stabilize and prevented more dire consequences.

Barofsky's report also disclosed that, while the Obama administration has pledged to spend $75 billion to prevent foreclosures, only a tiny fraction -- just over $15 million -- has been spent so far. Under the Making Home Affordable program, only about 66,500 borrowers, or 7 percent of those who signed up, had completed the process as of December.

He said the key to preventing future crises is to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, create and improve loan underwriting and supervision of banks. He stopped short of endorsing specific proposals for overhauling financial regulation, but said many of the proposals would go far to improving the system.
