John Kerry: Unemployed America Needs New Muslim Employees… Really?

A powerful American Senator has introduced a legislation in the US Senate to create a two-way professional exchange programs between the United States and Muslim-majority countries.

"This legislation is designed to help build professional capacity, strengthen civil society, and improve ties between the US and Muslim-majority countries through a two-way exchange of professional fellows," Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in a statement, after introducing the legislation in the Senate.

The International Professional Exchange Act of 2010 will establish a two-way professional exchange program between the United States and select Muslim-majority countries to promote career development and cross-cultural understanding for young to mid-career professionals.

"By targeting professionals like teachers, city planners, and public health workers, this program can be a valuable step in bolstering workforces around the globe. And by encouraging public-private partnerships, this program can help unite our institutions, governments, businesses, and charities around a common cause," Kerry said.

"After World War II, leaders such as Senator J William Fulbright recognized the value of building bridges through academic exchanges. While the program began modestly in 1946, today some 300,000 men and women proudly call themselves 'Fulbrighters', including 40 Nobel Prize winners and 20 heads of state. The International Professional Exchange Act builds on the legacy of the Fulbright program by emphasizing the next step: exchange programs for young professionals," Kerry said. Read The Full Article

Mayor Bloomberg isn't too concerned how money is raised for a proposed Islamic cultural center and mosque at Ground Zero.

Mayor Bloomberg said he doesn't know where the planners of the proposed mosque and Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero will get the money to build -- and he doesn't care.

"People say, well, you know, 'Do they have the money? Can they raise the money? Where does it come from?' " the mayor said Friday on his WOR-AM radio show with John Gambling.

"I don't know, and government shouldn't -- do you really want every time they pass the basket in your church and you throw a buck in, they run over and say, 'Okay, now, you know, where do you come from? Who are your parents? Where'd you get this money?'

"No! This is just not -- and I can't for the life of me -- a handful of people ought to be ashamed of themselves."

Bloomberg gave an impassioned defense of the rights of the Park51 Islamic center this week after the Landmarks Preservation Commission gave the founders permission to tear down the existing structure on Park Place.

Organizers have not yet raised money to construct the proposed 13-story building.

They have said they may accept some foreign donations, but have pledged to weed out any contributions from people and groups with anti-American agendas.
