Obama: A Profile in Cowardice

By Daniel Greenfield Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Obama: A Profile in CowardiceMeet Barack Hussein Obama. The man who turned his own middle name into a no-go zone during the election, only to bring it out of the closet when he trotted down to a Muslim country. The man whose associates labeled talk about his Muslim background as racist, only to proclaim his Muslim background loudly and proudly from the podium of a Muslim country.

There’s a word for a man like that. Coward.

Meet Obama, the bright young Senator with a phony biography geared to playing up his biracial angst for the college campuses. Who promised his leftist volunteers an end to rendition, detentions, eavesdropping and a whole bundle of other things, only to pull a bait and switch on them.

After all tools like that come in handy, even if they’re less likely to be used against Muslim terrorists, than they are against Tea Party protesters.

Meet Barack Obama, the man who was going to bring an end to the American coercion of other countries. No more would the White House tell the rest of the world what to do. Except of course to dictate where Jews can live in Israel, how the Honduran judiciary can operate and who can head the Muslim community in Greece.

Of course Obama has drawn the line somewhere. He has drawn the line against standing up to Ahmadinejad, Chavez or any Socialist or Muslim tyrant. Instead Obama has browbeaten America’s democratic allies, in support of Muslim and Socialist tyrannies. You can read that as Obama putting his own political and religious loyalties ahead of America’s interests. Or you can read it as the act of a craven coward who hopes to sacrifice America’s remaining allies in order to win over America’s enemies.

When the Iranian youth came out to protest against Ahmadinejad, Obama mumbled and fumbled for something to say. He dragged it out long enough to send a loud and clear message to the Iranian regime, that America would not interfere no matter what they did. And the regime got the message. Obama cannot be held completely responsible for the ruthless crackdown that has followed, but some of the blood is certainly on his well manicured hands and sleeves.

As the supposedly most cyber-aware fellow in the White House, Obama could have followed up on the British effort to provide social networking access to Iranian protesters, or on the one proposed by Senator John McCain, the man the media lambasted as tech-illiterate and out of touch. He could have imposed sanctions on Nokia for aiding in the repression of political dissidents and compelled them to make the plans for the technology they sold to Iran, public.

Harnessing America’s status as a world power and his own supposed global goodwill, Obama could have organized an international diplomatic response to the crackdown. He could have made any nuclear negotiations contingent on the treatment of the protesters. He could have done a dozen things, but aside from making a series of fumbling statements when his inaction became humiliating even for his own party,Barack Hussein Obama did nothing.

Behold the man. Behold the coward

By contrast when Honduras’ legislature and supreme court acted to remove President Manuel Zelaya, a close ally of Chavez, who had fired the head of the army and attempted to stage a coup by violating the Constitution, Obama and his people have been working around the clock to restore Zelaya to power, even while stating that they want the whole thing to be “free from external influence and interference” (the hypocrisy on that line alone is almost enough to choke even Chavez himself). The question is why?

But of course it’s not that difficult of a question. Not when you think like a coward. Not when you think like Obama.

Why wouldn’t Obama panic at the sight of a Congress and Supreme Court removing a left wing Socialist President who violated the Constitution in pushing to make himself el-presidente for life, by violating term limits. Let alone the military dumping said President across border.

Obama no doubt has nightmares of waking up on a C-31 transport to Kenya, after enough of his wrongdoing leads him to being booted out of the White House by what remains of the American legislative and judicial infrastructure.

Today Manuel “ALBA” Zelaya. Tomorrow it could be Barry “Hussein” Obama. And Barry knows better than anyone else the full catalog of lies, crimes and scandals brewing beneath his regime. Obama’s rise to power has been part of an American hemisphere trend that covers the likes of Chavez, Zelaya, Correa, Silva and even the return of Kerry’s old buddy, Ortega, to power in Nicaragua. What all of them have in common with Obama is a left wing socialist agenda that ignores the rule of law. An attack against Zelaya, could in Obama’s mind be seen an attack against him equally.

If the rollback of socialist tyranny begins in Honduras, it might spread. If Brazil, Venezeula and Ecuador follow-- might not the democractic revolution spread to America as well, and make the Prince of Chicago’s throne shakier than ever?

That is how a coward thinks, and Obama is nothing if not a coward. And like all cowards, he knows how little he deserves what he has, and how easy it would be for him to lose it all. A gang of greedy and deluded followers, and a nationwide 24/7 propaganda blitz can only do so much. After all there isn’t a socialist tyrant in the hemisphere who hasn’t had the same thing. And yet the latest of them is enjoying a well deserved vacation in Venezuela.

A profile in cowardice. A liar and a manipulator who serves his own ends first and his host country’s, last

Heavy hangs the head that wears the ill-gotten crown. From one corner of the globe to another, Obama flits back and forth, delivering speeches and posing for photos. Like a rat rubbing against a rosebush, hoping some of the loose petals will attach themselves to him so that he can appear more like a rosebush and less like a rat, Obama hopes that going through the motions of being a world leader will actually get people to confuse him with a world leader.

Yet his mumbling silence on Iran speaks far more eloquently about the sort of man Obama is, than all his scripted speeches ever could. Obama has been compared to JFK, but what he represents is no profile in courage, but a profile in cowardice. A liar and a manipulator who serves his own ends first and his host country’s, last. Who proclaims, Ask not what I can do for your country, Ask what your country can do for me. And above all else, a craven coward.

Friedmanfriedman_book - Money Mischief Predicted the
Destruction of the Dollar

The late, great Milton Friedman
in his classic book prophetically
revealed how Obama's reckless monetary policies will cause hyperinflation and destroy our nation

Everything Barack Obama, the Federal Reserve, and Congress are doing was predicted in startling detail almost two decades ago by a famous Nobel Prize-winning economist.

His name was Milton Friedman.

Though he passed away in 2006, in his prophetic book, Friedman showed how, facing massive deficits, the U.S. government would dramatically increase the money supply; why foreign countries would stop buying our debt; how the Fed would start buying our Treasury bills; and why this would call cause massive inflation.

He even predicted that our officials would claim inflation was no problem at all.

Amazingly all of this is coming to pass!

Make no mistake about it — the Obama administration is embracing massive inflationary deficit spending.

In just 100 days, Barrack Obama has more than doubled the U.S. money supply . . . committed the government to at least $7 trillion in new spending . . . and warned the American people to expect trillion-dollar deficits for the foreseeable future.

While the media has been falling over itself to praise Obama's "bold initiatives," the question no one has been asking is, "Where is all of this money coming from?"

Decades ago, Milton Friedman answered these questions clearly and precisely in his insightful — and very topical — book, Money Mischief: Episodes in Monetary History.

In Money Mischief, Friedman even warned that the coming inflation could "destroy" our country.

Here's what he wrote: "Inflation is a disease, a dangerous and sometimes fatal disease that, if not checked in time, can destroy a society." (Money Mischief, Page 191)

You see the end result of that process in countries like Zimbabwe today, where prices double every day, and it now takes a $10 billion Zimbabwe note to buy a single loaf of bread - assuming you can find one.

Could America suffer the same fate? Friedman wrote ominously, "The fate of a country is inseparable from the fate of its currency."

Even Warren Buffett recently admitted on CNBC that the only way for the U.S. to solve its woes was to inflate the currency.

There is little doubt that Obama's massive deficit spending will doom the dollar and our economy.

You need to find out what is really happening to our economy and your wealth and get a copy of Milton Friedman's path-breaking book, Money Mischief.

Its insights are so relevant and shocking — it reads like it was just published for our times!

Coups, interference, and the shifting standards of Obama; Update: Coup or ‘military impeachment’?

It’s difficult to make sense out of the foreign policy coming out of the White House under Barack Obama. On the one hand, Obama insisted that he could not interfere with the internal politics of the “sovereign government of Iran,” refusing for days to even condemn Iran for its flagrantly violent repression of dissent. When Honduras’ military staged a coup, though, Obama apparently had no such reticence in involving the US on behalf of deposed President Manuel Zelaya — a close ally of Hugo Chavez:

In an unusual concurrence of views, the Obama administration and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said they still recognized Mr. Zelaya as Honduras’ president. The State Department called the events an “attempted coup” and urged Mr. Zelaya’s “return and restoration of democratic order.”

U.S. officials said they were engaged in multinational efforts to resolve the crisis, through the Organization of American States and European allies. At the same time, Washington wants a resolution “free from external influence and interference,” a senior official told reporters during a conference call organized by the State Department.

The official, who spoke on the condition that he not be named, said the U.S. Embassy in Honduras was “consistently and almost constantly engaged in the last several weeks working with partners” and that U.S. officials were “in contact with all Honduran institutions, including the military.” However, the military stopped taking the embassy’s calls since the coup attempt, the official said.

The Wall Street Journal also reports Obama’s eagerness to “interfere”:

The Obama administration and members of the Organization of American States had worked for weeks to try to avert any moves to overthrow President Zelaya, said senior U.S. officials. Washington’s ambassador to Honduras, Hugo Llorens, sought to facilitate a dialogue between the president’s office, the Honduran parliament and the military.

The efforts accelerated over the weekend, as Washington grew increasingly alarmed. “The players decided, in the end, not to listen to our message,” said one U.S. official involved in the diplomacy. On Sunday, the U.S. embassy here tried repeatedly to contact the Honduran military directly, but was rebuffed. Washington called the removal of President Zelaya a coup and said it wouldn’t recognize any other leader.

The U.S. stand was unpopular with Honduran deputies. One congressman, Toribio Aguilera, got prolonged applause from his colleagues when he urged the U.S. ambassador to reconsider. Mr. Aguilera said the U.S. didn’t understand the danger that Mr. Zelaya and his friendships with Mr. Chavez and Cuba’s Fidel Castro posed.

Zelaya was violating his country’s constitution with his referendum that would have, Chavez-style, repealed term limits on the presidency. The Honduras Supreme Court ruled the referendum illegal, and the military refused to distribute the ballots. Instead of backing down, Zelaya fired the head of the military, which precipitated the ouster.

Clearly, democracies cannot abide armed overthrow of elected governments, but that presumes that the government acts within the rule of law. Zelaya had no intention of doing so, and his flagrant violations and attempt to accrue personal power made that crystal clear. Zelaya had begun seizing dictatorial powers, and the military responded by arresting him. The military then handed power back to the legislature rather than keeping it for themselves, which makes this less of a coup and more of a military impeachment.

Why did Obama decide to intervene on behalf of a “president” obviously abusing his power and to prevent the military from removing him once he started acting like a dictator? He didn’t put nearly that much effort into assisting Iranians who have gone into the streets and died to protest the mullahcracy that oppresses them. Rick Moran thinks that’s a pretty good question as well:

Further, the military was acting under the orders of the Honduran Supreme Court although they apparently exceeded their authority by whisking him away to Venezuela. And finally, it was Zelaya’s actions in violating the constitution, ignoring a ruling by the Supreme Court that any referendum be put on would be illegal, and the universal belief in Congress, the military, and much of the populace that eventually, he would little more than a stand in for Chavez if he was allowed to carry out his illegal referendum that sealed Zelaya’s fate.

And yet our president, acting contrary to American interests, chose the route of least resistance and condemned what many Hondurans believe was a restoration of constitutional order. The president will find himself in familiar territory with this condemnation - Castro, Ortega, and other Latin American leftist thugs also condemned the coup. Maybe someone could look it up but when was the last time we were on the same side with Cuba on any international issue?

Way to go Barry. Like, we should listen to the Castros when they complain about democratic procedure not being followed? …

In fact, after swearing off “interferring” in Iran where demonstrators were getting shot, beaten, and axed to death, our clueless Chief Hypocrite worked frantically behind the scenes to save Honduran President Zelaya’s job, thus [interfering] on the wrong side while making himself out a liar on Iran.

We’re getting a close look at Obama’s priorities, and they’re hideously out of step with democracy and the rule of law.

Update: The controversy now is whether this is a coup or a lawful action on behalf of the Honduras legislature and courts. Fausta has gone on record saying it’s not a coup, as the military responded to a request from the legislature and courts to remove Zelaya. I tend to agree with Larisa Alexandrovna on this point, though:

As noted here (in Spanish), the Honduran Congress cited repeated violations of the Honduran Constitution by President Manuel Zelaya and voted for his removal. That said, as I noted earlier, he is both a bad guy and a good guy. This is a complex political environment in a very unstable part of the world.

The right sees this as a simple restoration of democracy. Yet the use of military personnel to detain, arrest, and transport a sitting president to another country against his will is not part of any democratic process that I am aware of. They do have courts in Honduras and a legal system. This is a coup, despite the passions of the right-wing. They also have law enforcement. Anytime the military becomes involved, it is not as simple as impeachment by Congressional edict through military force. Shorter=coup.

Had the military arrested and detained Zelaya in advance of an impeachment action and/or criminal prosecution, then I could go with the not-a-coup argument.

Dumping him outside of the country is not exactly a due-process removal — and I think that falls into the yes-it’s-a-coup territory. Perhaps necessary, perhaps very supportable, but it’s obviously an extralegal removal, which is the very definition of a coup.

Boehner Golfs With Tiger Woods — Republican Recruit?

Tiger Woods, Republican? House Minority Leader John Boehner seems to Tiger Woodsthink it might be a possibility.

Boehner is taking a day off from fundraising this week to hit the links with Tiger Woods, according to The Hill. The Ohio Republican, a seasoned golfer with a seven handicap, is set to play alongside the top-ranked, popular golfer in the Earl Woods Memorial Pro-Am portion of the AT&T National tournament at Congressional Country Club on Wednesday.

There was no word who else was in the Woods-Boehner foursome, but the article makes it clear that Boehner sees the most famous golfer in the world as a potential Republican in the age of Obama.

After speaking on the National Mall during the inauguration ceremonies in January, there was speculation that the superstar was a Democrat, the Hill reports. But the civic-minded athlete has not revealed his party affiliation.

This is Tiger's third year hosting the annual PGA tournament in the nation's capital during the week of July 4. Woods dedicates the tournament to the men and women in the U.S. armed forces. The legendary golfer's father, Earl, served in the Army and Special Forces.

Boehner also often spends recesses teeing it up at courses across the country, raising money for GOP candidates and rallying his own troops.

According to tournament officials, 120 players will participate, including 2009 U.S. Open winner Lucas Glover, Paul Casey, three-time major winner Vijay Singh, former U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk, Sean O’Hair, and former Masters champion Mike Weir.

Op-Ed: Obama's Census Castrates Caucasians

Op-Ed: Obama's Census Castrates Caucasians

By Dr. Paul L. Williams Saturday, June 27, 2009

imageThe TheLastCrusade.org
It’s invasive.
It’s corrupt.
It’s rigged.
It’s unconstitutional.

Its purpose is the legislative transformation of the United States of America into a land where conservatives, Christians, and Caucasians will become political castrados.

It is biased and prejudicial.

It serves to channel billions of dollars into bogus political actiongroups, such as Acorn.

It promotes gay rights and same-sex marriages.

It is a document that was not something drafted by the Berkley chapter of the Barbra Streisand Fan Club or the Alec Baldwin wing of the American Civil Liberties Union.

It is President Barack Obama’s 2010 Census Form.

The form asks if you have a house with running water, if you have a flush toilet, if you go to work by ferryboat or trolleycar, if you are mentally challenged, if you are of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin, and if you are a white, black, negro, African American, American Indian, Asian Indian, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Native Hawaiian, Guamanian or Chamorro, Samoan, Fijian, or Tongan

It asks if you have hot and cold running water, a sink with a faucet, a frigerator, a bathtub or shower, a stove or range, and a flush toilet.

It asks if you use coal, gas, oil, electricity, or solar energy to heatyour home or apartment, if you are deaf or blind, if you are mentally challenged, if you have a physical disability, if you are employed, self-employed, or retired, if you have troubled dressing or bathing, if you have difficulty walking or climbing the stairs, and if you speak a language other than English at home.

It asks your income, your educational level, and the time you leave your home in the morning.

But infinitely more telling is what the new census form doesn’t ask.

It doesn’t ask if you are a citizen of the U.S.A., if you are an immigrant, or if you are a Muslim.

Naturally, the questions are in English and Spanish, lest anyone think that America is an Anglo nation. Many stand in violation of the Constitution which states that a national census should concern itself solely the number of individuals in a household.

For this reason, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is refusing to answer the “very intricate” and “very personal” questions.

But there are problems with the Obama census beyond the intrusive nature of the comprehensive survey.

To assist in the hiring of census takers, the Obama Administration has opted to partner with the following special interest groups (not one of which represents the despised race of whites who settled this country):

  • ACORN
  • 100 Black Men of America
  • African American Women‚ Ă„Ă´s House of Imagene (sic) Shelter
  • American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee
  • Arab American Institute
  • Asian American Federation
  • Asian American Justice Center
  • Asian and Pacific Islander Coalition on HIV/AIDS
  • Association of Professors and Scholars of Iranian Heritage
  • Boat People SOS
  • Hispanic Alliance for Prosperity Institute
  • Hispanic Federation
  • Fundacion Azteca
  • Latino Justice PDLDEF
  • Mas New Mexico
  • Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund
  • Minority Access
  • National Alliance for Hispanic Health
  • National Alliance of Black School Educators
  • National American Indian Housing Council
  • NAACP National Voter Fund
  • NAACP (National Association of Colored People)
  • National Association for Black Social Workers
  • National Association of Colored Women‚Ă„Ă´s Clubs
  • National association of Hispanic Federal Executives
  • National Association of Hispanic Publications
  • National Association of Latino Elected Officials
  • National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women‚Ă„Ă´s Clubs
  • National Black Chamber of Commerce
  • National Black Child Development Institute
  • National Black Justice Coalition
  • National Black Leadership Forum
  • National Coalition on Black Civic Participation
  • National Congress of Black Women
  • National Federation of Filipino American Associations
  • National Hispanic Leadership Institute
  • National Hispanic Business Information Clearinghouse
  • National Latino Research Center
  • National Minority AIDS Council
  • National Puerto Rican Coalition
  • National Puerto Rican Day Parade
  • Rainbow Push Coalition
  • U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
  • Voto Latino

Get the picture? Notice a racial bias?

These agencies will be paid millions in taxpayers’ dollars to assist the President in conducting the census and to make sure that all minorities are included in the official count.

Not one of the groups represents the despised race of white Europeans who settled this country and gave their sweat and blood to make it the most prosperous nation on earth.

Excluded from the list of census partners are such groups, as the American Legion, theVeterans of Foreign Wars, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Elks Clubs, the Rotary Clubs, the Moose Lodge, and, of course, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

This racial bias inherent in the census has raised the concern that the results will be rigged - - a concern that has been intensified by Mr. Obama’s selection of Robert M. Groves, a sociology professor at the University of Michigan,

Republican legislators have expressed alarm because Mr. Groves’s specialty is statistical sampling — roughly speaking, the process of extrapolating from the numbers of people actually counted to arrive at estimates of those uncounted and, presumably, arriving at a realistic total.

If minorities, immigrants, the poor and the homeless are those most likely to be missed in an actual head count, as Mr. Grove presumably believes, and if political stereotypes hold true, then the statistical sampling of the 2010 census will produce a windfall for the Democrat Party.

This result is certain since the census results as gathered by the above groups coupled with Mr. Grove’s calculation of the missed head count will determine which states gains seats in Congress and which ones lose them, as well as the allocation of federal dollars to states and cities based on population.

The Obama budget serves to ensure that the United States will be broke.

His foreign policies will serve the cause of the Muslim world to the detriment of Israel.

And his census will make sure that the time of the Judeo-Christian standards and culture in the land of the free and the home of the brave will come to an end.

The chickens have come home to roost.

President Trump? What If?

What if Donald Trump were President? What would he do?

images1

As a guest on Greta Van Susteren’s show, on Fox News tonight, Donald Trump said that OPEC is laughing at us and the banks aren’t lending… and both are killing us financially!

He said that there is oil sitting in tankers everywhere and OPEC will dump it rather than sell it to us at a decent rate. HMMMM… so much for Obama’s cow-towing (and bowing) to the Arabs having any positive effect for America… in any arena!!

When Greta asked Donald Trump what he’d do if he were President he said he would force the banks to loan the stimulus money that we, the taxpayers, have given them. He said no matter how wealthy you are, you cannot go out and get a loan. The banks are just sitting on that money, covering their bottom-line.

Then Trump added that he would get the smartest and toughest guy he knew… a businessman, not a politician, to get over to the Middle East to negotiate, as well as splitting up OPEC. OPEC is a monopoly that would be illegal by the standards of most countries and they have destroyed many countries in the process by their greed. Trump said that OPEC has taken advantage of us for years; oil should be $20 a barrel, not $70.

There is an old blog post online from 2005 where Trump was saying these same things. Amazing how we don’t listen to people who know how to make and how to manage money?!? It is like the old adage: Those that can… do. Those that can’t… teach. The same goes for government: Those that can… do. Those that can’t… go into government service; just take a look at the Obama Administration.

Trump said that some of the smartest people he knows say if oil costs more than $20 to $30 a barrel, you have a problem. Last year OPEC pushed oil over a $100 a barrel, now it is at $70, and America can't afford it! He closed by saying, "Very few people, except me, are telling you that or trying to do anything about it". Perhaps you need to ask yourself why?!?

Energy Czar Has Not Read Climate Bill, Either And Boehner Says Climate Bill Is A ' Pile of S--t' | The FOX Nation

Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) had a few choice words about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) landmark climate-change bill after its passage Friday.

When asked why he read portions of the cap-and-trade bill on the floor Friday night, Boehner told The Hill, "Hey, people deserve to know what's in this pile of s--t."

Using his privilege as leader to speak for an unlimited time on the House floor, Boehner spent an hour reading from the 1200-plus page bill that was amended 20 hours before the lower chamber voted 219-212 to approve it.

Eight Republicans voted with Democrats to pass the bill; 44 House Democrats voted against it.

Pelosi's office declined to comment on Boehner's jab. But one Democratic aide quipped, "What do you expect from a guy who thinks global warming is caused by cow manure?"

Even though Sen. Majorty Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) holds the bill's fate in his hands, House Republicans intend to hammer Speaker Pelosi's signature climate-change measure over recess.

And GOP Conference Chairman Rep. Mike Pence (Ind.) said "we have only just begun to fight” as he left the Capitol Friday night.

Pence encouraged GOP rank-and-file lawmakers to hold energy summits in their districts over the Independence Day recess. In the recess packets sent home with members, he even included directions on how to organize energy summits.

The goal of holding an energy forum is to “educate your constituents about the Democrats’ national energy tax legislation and let them know what 'all of the above' solution you support.”

"All of the above” solution is a reference to the Republicans' plan that would increase the use of and exploration for domestic energy supplies.

Further, officials with the House GOP's campaign arm, the National Republican Congressional Committee, confirm that they will run with paid media over recess in districts of conservative Dems who voted for the bill. The official would not reveal details on the ad buys at this time.

One Democrat was upset that his leaders would needlessly force vulnerable Dems to vote for a bill that will come back to haunt them. Mississippi Rep. Gene Taylor (D) voted against the measure that he says will die in the Senate.

"A lot of people walked the plank on a bill that will never become law," Taylor told The Hill after the gavel came down.

Obama: My Cap-and-Trade Plan Will Make Electricity Rates 'Skyrocket' | The FOX Nation

President Obama said Monday that light bulbs will have to meet tougher efficiency standards in order to slash energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions.

Mr. Obama's announcement came three days after the House of Representatives passed a sweeping climate bill that is the centerpiece of the president's plan to curb carbon dioxide emissions, reform the nation's energy markets and tackle global warming.

Backers say the bill that passed the House of Representatives late last week is designed to move the nation toward a clean energy economy, but its fate in the Senate is uncertain. Administration officials have been anxious to maintain the momentum on the issue as lawmakers return to their districts for a weeklong Fourth of July recess.

"I know light bulbs may not seem sexy," Mr. Obama said, "but this simple action holds enormous promise because 7 percent of all the energy consumed in America is used to light our homes and our businesses."

Mr. Obama told reporters that the tougher standards for fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs will help consumers save $4 billion a year on energy bills between 2012 and 2042. The standards will also conserve enough electricity to power every home in America for 10 months, reduce carbon emissions equal to the amount produced by 166 million cars each year and eliminate the need for as many as 14 coal-fired power plants, he added.

Republicans accused Mr. Obama of focusing on small measures while ignoring more market-friendly alternatives.

"Everyone wants more efficiency, but the president is simply dropping the ball when it comes to the big picture on energy," said Michael Steel, a spokesman for House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio.

Mr. Steel said House Republicans have a offered a comprehensive "all of the above" plan for a cleaner, healthier environment, lower costs and less dependence on foreign oil.

Standing beside Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Mr. Obama said the White House will lead the way by identifying and replacing wasteful light bulbs.

A 2007 energy bill passed by Congress allowed the Energy Department to issue energy conservation standards for home appliances, as well as fluorescent and incandescent lamps. Mr. Obama asked Mr. Chu in February to speed up the rule-making process and the light bulb standards announced Monday which go into effect in 2012 are a key part of the larger effort.

Mr. Obama said that commercial and residential buildings must also be made more efficient because they consume 40 percent of the nation's energy and cause 40 percent of its carbon emissions.

The president said implementing more-efficient heating and cooling systems, windows, smart sensors and controls will make buildings 80 percent more efficient. Adding solar panels on roofs and geothermal energy from underground could lead to "net zero" buildings that consume virtually no energy or create as much energy as they use.

"Now, progress like this might seem farfetched. But the fact is we are not lacking for ideas and innovation; all we lack are the smart policies and the political will to help us put our ingenuity to work," he said.

To expedite the development, deployment and use of this energy-efficient technology, Mr. Obama released $346 million in funding from the economic stimulus bill he passed in February.

"The nation that leads the world in creating a new clean energy economy will be the nation that leads the 21st century global economy. That's our choice," he said.

Hawaii paper turns down ad probing Obama's birth - Star-Bulletin publisher rejects full-page, full-rate display 'because it is political'

WASHINGTON – In the latest effort to obtain information that could settle the controversy over Barack Obama's eligibility for office as a "natural born citizen," WND Editor and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Farah attempted to buy a full-page ad in a Honolulu daily newspaper soliciting assistance in finding documentary evidence of his birth in the city Aug. 4, 1961, as he claims in his autobiography.

Despite offering the full rate of $7,168.50 plus taxes for a full-page, color ad on page 2 of the news section of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin next Monday, the copy was rejected – the latest turndown by a growing list of media companies that won't touch the birth certificate issue even for money.

"I spoke to my publisher and unfortunately we cannot accept the ad because it is political," explained Cyd Kamakea, classified advertising manager.

The ad copy was headlined: "Help Wanted: Information leading to the truth about Barack Obama's birth."

The entire contents of the ad is reprinted below:

WorldNetDaily seeks information, both material and anecdotal, which will reveal the entire truth regarding the circumstances of the birth of President Barack Hussein Obama.

1. We seek the original Hawaiian "vault record of birth" for Obama, if one exists;

2. We seek the certificate number of the original "vault record of birth" for Obama, if one exists;

3. We seek original or certified copies of older vault indexes, for the year 1961, where the name Obama may or may not appear on the vault list or records index;

4. We seek evidence and testimony from anyone who may have witnessed Obama's birth – in Hawaii or elsewhere;

5. We seek Hawaiian hospital records and testimony from attending doctors, nurses and others who may have actual knowledge and evidence regarding Obama, which will either prove or disprove a Hawaiian birth;

6. We seek to know if the Hawaiian state records show a Kenyan or other foreign record of birth for Obama and was perhaps reregistered in Hawaii, which was previously legal in Hawaii for limited purposes in 1961;

7. We especially seek the testimony of genealogists, archivists, records clerks, investigators, and others who may have unique knowledge of the original Obama birth records from 1961;

8. We seek unimpeachable physical evidence and testimony, and you will be asked to submit to interviews and a polygraph test. Your identity will not be revealed to the press without your permission;

9. We will negotiate a fair reward for your information, evidence and testimony.

Please contact Joseph Farah, editor and chief executive officer of WorldNetDaily, by emailing him – jfarah@wnd.com

"As a former newspaper top executive myself, it is simply astonishing to me how cowardly and closed-minded my former industry has become," said Farah. "Not only will none of these so-called news organizations cover a matter of the utmost public interest, but they will not even allow someone to advertise for help in an independent investigation. The once-great watchdog American press has indeed become the pathetic lapdog American press – subservient to the whims and wishes of those in power."

Farah has waged a fierce campaign to raise the visibility of the eligibility issue since late last year – when it was all but fading from the nation's view.

He began by launching an ongoing petition campaign, that has now gathered nearly 400,000 electronic "signatures" and which, at various times was used to persuade members of the electoral college of the controversy and later handed to the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court John Roberts.

More recently, Farah initiated a nationwide billboard campaign employing the slogan, "Where's the birth certificate?" That campaign has raised nearly $100,000 in the last two months and resulted in the purchase of about a half-dozen billboards so far around the country.

"Where's The Birth Certificate?" billboard in Pennsylvania

While there are still hundreds of thousands of billboards across America available for expansion of this campaign, three of the largest media companies refused to accept the ads.

In addition, Farah has made available to the general public magnetized bumper stickers for display on automobiles and other metallic surfaces, as well as yard signs and tea party rally signs that mimic the billboard campaign.

More recently, Farah issued a $10,000 challenge for anyone who can provide evidence of being present at the birth of Barack Obama and has called on others to donate to the cause to make it "irresistible" to those who were present – wherever that birth took place just 48 years ago.

"The reason we are resorting to what may strike some as unorthodox efforts for a news agency is because we have been stymied in our ability to get answers from Barack Obama," said Farah. "Obama, who has pledged to run the most open and transparent administration in history has, in fact, slammed the door shut on matters pertaining to his own constitutional eligibility. I don't believe that attitude will change until the American people force it to change. Barack Obama could make this issue go away today by releasing his long-form birth certificate – the one that is signed by an attending physician or other official and names the hospital in which the birth took place."

Farah, a lifelong journalist who directed the newsrooms of major-metropolitan dailies before founding WND, said he is repulsed by the way the rest of the news media, not to mention the opposition party in Washington, have accepted at face value Obama's unsubstantiated and undocumented claims to being a "natural born citizen."

"There is simply no evidence to prove Obama is constitutionally eligible to serve," said Farah. "It is so disturbing that Americans would just give him a pass on the simple constitutional test. In six months in office, he has more than demonstrated complete contempt for the constitutional limits on federal power. It's no wonder. He got away with becoming president without satisfying the explicit and simple demands of constitutional eligibility. What should we expect him to do in office? Should we expect him suddenly to start applying a constitutional test to policy?"

Despite the almost complete lack of reporting on the issue by the press, a scientific survey of the American public conducted by WND this month showed more than 49 percent believe Obama should release his birth certificate and other documents, such as college records, or said they were "troubled" by his refusal to do so.

If you are a member of the media and would like to interview Joseph Farah about this campaign or this issue, e-mail WND.

Court Rules “For” White Firefighters in Discrimination Case – Against Sotomayor

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ruled Monday that a group of white firefighters in Connecticut were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, fire fighter reversing a decision endorsed by high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.

Sotomayor’s rulings have been looked at by the Supreme Court 8 times and the Supreme Court has ruled against her 7 times… Add that to her comments about race and this says a lot about her view of the law and her view of race!!!

The 5-4 ruling poses a potential complication to Sotomayor's nomination, with confirmation hearings set to start in July. Already, supporters and critics of Sotomayor are seizing on the decision in an effort to defend their stance.

In the high-profile, controversial case, white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., argued they were discriminated against when the city tossed out the results of a promotion exam because too few minorities scored high enough on it.

Justice Anthony Kennedy authored the opinion in favor of Frank Ricci and his fellow firefighters who sued the city of New Haven.

"The city's action in discarding the tests violated (federal law)," the Supreme Court majority wrote Monday, adding that the city's "race-based rejection of the test results" could not be justified.

The city argued its action was prompted by concern that disgruntled black firefighters would sue. But that reasoning didn't hold sway with the court's majority.

"Fear of litigation alone cannot justify the city's reliance of race to the detriment of individuals who passed the examinations and qualified for promotions," the court ruled.

This decision, like many of the close cases before the high court, divided along its familiar ideological lines. Kennedy was joined by the four conservatives on the court in issuing the majority decision.

The court's more liberal members joined Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's dissent which she read from the bench. "The white firefighters who scored high on New Haven's promotional exams understandably attract the court's sympathy," she said. "But they had no vested right to promotion."

The firefighters are expected to hold a press conference Monday afternoon in New Haven.

The 20 firefighters — 19 white and one Hispanic — who were denied promotions claimed city officials discriminated against them because they were more concerned about potential complaints of Civil Rights Act violations than their performance on advancement exams. The white firefighters argued discrimination is discrimination no matter what color it takes, and therefore, the city did violate the Civil Rights Act in not promoting them.

Sotomayor was one of three appeals court judges who earlier ruled that New Haven officials acted properly.

The reversal could be used as ammunition by some senators who don't want to see Sotomayor confirmed. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill swiftly issued statements on the ruling Monday and scheduled media appearances to discuss it.

Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, applauded the decision and suggested trouble ahead for Sotomayor.

"The Supreme Court today reminded all courts and governments that equal justice under the law means refusing to tip the scale in favor of one race over another," he said in a written statement. "The Senate Judiciary Committee should carefully examine Judge Sotomayor’s role in the Second Circuit’s opinion on this case. Discrimination and racial preferences have no place in our courts, let alone on the highest court in the land.”

But Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., said "it would be wrong" to use the decision to criticize Sotomayor and that her panel's decision exhibited "judicial restraint."

He said the Supreme Court's ruling is "likely to result in cutbacks on important protections for American families."

"This is a cramped decision that threatens to erode these protections and to harm the efforts of state and local governments that want to build the most qualified workforces," Leahy said in a statement.

Sotomayor's views on race have been the focal point of criticism as she seeks a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land. She has also been scrutinized for her statement outside the court that a "wise, Latina woman" would come to better conclusions more often than a white man.

Sotomayor's confirmation hearing is currently scheduled to begin on July 13. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told "FOX News Sunday" that her nomination must have a full airing before a vote, and that could mean delaying the hearing scheduled by Democratic senators, a scenario that is unlikely to happen.

"Just a day or so ago, we discovered that there are 300 boxes of additional material that has just been discovered from her time working with the Puerto Rican Legal Defense Fund," McConnell said. "The committee needs to have access to that material and time to work through it ... so we know all the facts before we vote on a person who's up for a lifetime job."

If confirmed, Sotomayor will replace Justice David Souter, whose retirement coincides with the end of the court's session on Monday. In April's oral argument of the firefighter case, Souter described it as a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. Souter joined the minority in Monday's decision.

Souter said he'd retire when the court rises for the summer recess. He was named to the court in 1990.

As Souter retires to New Hampshire, four justices are heading to Europe for summer teaching jobs, including in Austria, Ireland and Italy.

As one giant white elephant is born - government health care, another is being dismantled by the private sector

old-time mailman photo Could your post office be closing?

As one giant white elephant is born - government health care, another is being dismantled by the private sector

As mail volume declines, the US Postal Service could shutter up to 3,200 post offices and retail outlets. Most people say they understand -- unless it's their post office

A rallying cry can be heard across the country, from the swanky streets of New York's SoHo to the tiny town of Randolph, Kan.: "Save our post office!

As the United States Postal Service, weighed down by a crippling multibillion-dollar deficit, shrinks its operations, post offices across the country are on the chopping block. Each year, hundreds of postal operations shutter, but this coming fall could be the single biggest consolidation in Postal Service history.

Over the next three months, more than 3,200 post offices and retail outlets -- out of 34,000 -- will be reviewed for possible closure or consolidation

Downsizing is a business imperative, says Linda Welch, acting vice president of delivery and post office operations at the Postal Service. "Revenues have declined, and mail volume continues to decline," she says.

Not only have e-mail and electronic bill paying made for a skinnier mail stream, but the recession has caused a sharp pullback in advertising mail that has hurt the Postal Service even more. In March, Postmaster General John Potter asked Congress for the right to reduce the mail week from six days to five, for a savings of $3.5 billion.

Shutting down post offices will have similar cost-saving effects. And most Americans say they're OK with the cutbacks, as long as they don't have to pay more to send mail. A recent USA Today/Gallup poll found that more Americans would rather the Postal Service curtail services than seek a bailout or raise stamp prices.

At least, that's what everyone says -- until it's their beloved post office at stake. For various reasons, people tend to react with great fervor when their local offices are endangered.

Consider the case of the Hawleyville Post Office. After years of negotiations, the Postal Service in January notified the Connecticut community that its 166-year-old post office would close Feb. 14. An article in the local newspaper poignantly noted, "The long love affair between the Hawleyville post office and its loyal customers will come to an end on, of all days, Valentine's Day."

Its post office was rickety, but the community embraced it as a gathering place. One resident told the Newtown Bee, "The Hawleyville Post Office is like Cheers in Hawleyville

In fear of losing its precious haunt, the community mobilized. A Web site and online petition drive were created. Members got Congress involved. And low and behold, the community won approval for a new post office, to be opened this summer.

Every time a post office is slated for closure or consolidation, the Postal Service is legally obligated to inform its customers well in advance. "There's a very long process that they have to go through," says Mario Principe, the post office continuance consultant at the National League of Postmasters. That gives the communities plenty of time, usually at least two months, to stage a rescue.

Anatomy Of A Closure

The Postal Service will typically send out a survey or host a town hall meeting before an endangered office closes. Perhaps the closing of a post office means too many lost jobs for an already-hurting community. The office might house the bulletin board that posts important community announcements. Or the next-closest post office may be really far away. If customers alert officials to such concerns, there's a better chance that their office will be spared. Appealing the closure decision to the Postal Regulatory Commission often works, too, though it's a step many communities don't know to take.

It's also important to check out why a post office is on the chopping block in the first place. Those under review this summer are mostly metropolitan branches or stations. But in the case of small post offices, federal law states that the reason can't be just that the office isn't bringing in enough revenue. If that's the only explanation given, then the Postal Service can't legally shut it down.

Oftentimes, post offices face closure because their leases expire. That's the case in Deer Harbor, Wash. After attempts to find a new location for the post office failed, the community decided "in desperation" to buy the property just to keep it in business. If the community can raise the $250,000 purchase price by the June 30, the Postal Service says it will continue operations there. The Postal Service seems willing to negotiate, and it's not really bothered by the protests. "It actually it makes us very proud to know that we are a valuable member of the community," says Welch. She says that the Postal Service appreciates the great lengths that some communities will go to just to ensure that their services continue. What the Postal Service would appreciate even more: If those people would show their appreciation by taking the simple step of sending more mail. Oddly enough, that seems to be the unthinkable last resort.

Some comments and suggestions:

  • SATURDAYS delivery could be cut out ----- We can wait another couple days for BILLS to arrive.
  • One USA post office in my neighborhood is located in a very tiny shop that sells lottery tickets and greeting cards and has Safety Deposit Boxes. Maybe that's what they'll all be coming to instead of these state-of-the-art huge buildings with several PO's in just one town. They'll only need one large building to sort mail and distribute it per county.
  • This country has just too many of everything----Malls---car dealers---grocery stores and none can make a decent profit unless they charge the customers more.
  • If they expect greater volume for holidays, they could do what the private sector does and hire seasonal workers.
  • Rural delivery probably needs to be subsidized, at least until a new generation comes along that will be satisfied with electronic delivery... many years out. For God sake, we are subsidizing tons of things that are a lot less important.

One Letter to the Editor:

If mail delivery were to be taken over by private enterprise, get ready for some major changes. First mail delivery to many rural locations would stop and those people living in more rural and isolated locations would have to go to a central post office to pick up their mail. If you are disabled or there is nasty weather (like a foot of snow in the winter), tough. If you want your mail, you will have to go pick it up. Mail delivery to urban and suburban locations would still continue, but I suspect that in many inner city neighborhoods, they will also be restricted.

Forget about Saturday mail delivery. That would cease if a private company took over the mail delivery. Of course there may be competition between private companies and there may be one that will offer Saturday delivery or will deliver to rural addresses, but you will have to pay extra for that privilege.

Expect changes in postal rates if private enterprise takes over mail delivery. You might see some postage rates lowered for mail being sent locally or short distances, but if you want to send something across the country, it will cost more. I also suspect that if you are mailing something to a rural location, that may cost more also.

Would service be better at local post offices if the postal workers were paid Wally World wages? I don't think so. There would be higher turnover and in general the quality of employee (and service) would plummet. I can just see a letter carrier saying that going out in 95 degree heat in the middle of the day delivering mail isn't worth what he is being paid if they are paid Wally World wages. The same goes for having to go out in below zero wind chills in winter.

Should the postal system be taken over by private enterprise, expect to see many smaller post offices closed. This would also include many post offices located in cities since they could consolidate services in one big post office. So what if it is inconvenient to get to and there are long lines, that is business efficiency. Also many small rural post offices will also close and those people might have to drive a little longer distances to get their mail since it would no longer be delivered to their house (unless they want to pay extra for it).

Oh yes, don't forget the US Postal Inspection Service. That has been regarded as the best law enforcement agency in the country and among the best in the world. We don't hear a lot about them, but they are the oldest federal law enforcement agency and they don't make headlines like the FBI does. But they are the primary law enforcement agency fighting child pornography and fraud. They are very effective in what they do and their agents are trained along side FBI agents. The USPIS investigates more white collar crime than any other law enforcement agency and when they make an arrest, they obtain a conviction in more than 90% of their cases.

No, the government does a great job of handling the mail and i do not want to see that "privatized". You could also substitute "corrupted" in place of "privatized" since I am sure that the executives of any private enterprise that would handle the mail would pay themselves obscene salaries and bonuses while paying out millions in lobbying congress to keep their gravy train running. If "government health care" were run as well as the post office, we would have a system that is highly efficient and costs far less.

As with everything else that is going on in these crazy times… It is something to think about and then to either stand up over, offer and campaign for your suggestions or let go. But, this is definitely a time to be and get involved. Had we done so all along, the United States would not be in this position. Ask Marion/Knowledge Creates Power~
